Tom is 100% correct - cellulite is just fat like any other fat that is in your body. Yes, the way it forms gives it a certain appearance, but if you want to get rid of it, you need to get rid of the fat.

You may be required to get to a very low body fat percentage before the cellulite disappears, or you may not - everyone is different.

Many of the things that have been mentioned in this thread may help the appearance of cellulite to be minimal, but if you want it to actually go away, you need to lower your body fat percentage. As is always the case, the number on a scale is not as important as your level of body fat. You can weigh very little and still have a higher level of body fat than is healthy.

I wouldn't recommend that anyone runs out and becomes a bodybuilder (unless they want to, of course), but have you ever seen a successful bodybuilder with cellulite? No, because their body fat percentage is so low that it's just not physically possible for that body fat storage to still be there.

Cellulite!

So...does it ever go away when you lose weight or is it one of those things you are stuck with?

I am not that large at the moment...around 157 pounds and am 5' 6"ish. Even at my biggest I was only around 168 pounds but I still have a heap of cellulite on my bum and the back of my thighs. Will this go away if I slim down?

If not has anyone tried any treatment that has been effective at getting rid of cellulite?

Beachjunkie, Tom, and Thinktowin are the most accurate on here.

Yeah, there is no "cure" or whatever. From what I heard, you just might want to get in shape, get muscular, and eat right. It's your best bet, LOL! Um, but I've heard a few things.......

* Avoid processed and refined foods which contain excess salt, sugar or fat.
* Follow a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, beans and legumes. These high fiber foods help eliminate waste and toxins.
* Reduce your intake of coffee, tea, sugar, salt and alcohol

Also, I read this:

1. Strengthening blood vessels / increasing blood flow

2. Encouraging the production of connective tissue

3. Stimulating the production of collagen and elastin

4. Attracting water to the cells

5. Repairing cell membranes

6. Reducing waste water (from leaky cells)

7. Preventing free-radical damage

8. Reducing inflammation

9. Promoting exfoliation

All this can be assisted with eating an anti-inflammatory diet that is basically devoid of highly processed foods, high salt, high sugar, and high caffeine, and eating fruits, veggies, salmon, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. That, cardio, and weight training and you got the tools you need, although yeah, it's LARGELY GENETIC.

Still, eat clean, get the sweat flowing, and weight train twice a week, then come back here and tell me if you see any difference. I'm curious if anyone who complains about cellulite actually tried all this.....
