Need advice for eating for my schedule

hi everyone... i need some serious advice on how to eat for my schedule...

I am a college student and i also work and i find myself stopping for fast food whenever i have a short break but this is obviously a huge mistake and something i need to cut out completely in order to lose weight but what should i do???

typically the cafeteria on campus closes before i have a chance to get there and eat.... if i pack food i can't keep it cold or heat it up anywhere on campus and i can't keep food good till night when i go to work... i'm gone for a big chunk of my days and i don't know how to eat healthy when im always out at school or work and always in a hurry.. i only have about 30 minutes to spare in between class and work... please ... any suggestions are much appreciated!!!

Hi Andrea. This sounds like the conversation I had with my daughter a while back. She came to visit me over Thanksgiving break. She is also a college student and didn't have time to run home and make lunch, so she found herself grabbing fast food or chips and such. She and I went shopping and I bought her some South Beach cereal/protein bars, yogurt tubes, which can be frozen; some fruit cups, she likes peaches the best; some turkey jerky and some peanuts. We also bought some of them small snack size baggies and split the jerky and peanuts in servings, so she could just grab one and go. When I saw her at Christmas, she'd lost ten pounds! Just from eliminating the fast food, except for on Friday night which is her "night off". She just grabs a yogurt, a fruit cup, a jerky and a peanut bag or cereal bar and throws them in her backpack. She also packs green tea bags and gets hot water somewhere so she can a cup of tea with her lunch.

Can you carry one of those little soft coolers with ice packs in it? Those would keep most things cold. Fruit can be taken on the go and is ok warm, although I do prefer cold fruit. Almonds, kashi granola bars, whole wheat crakers with peanut butter would be good non cold items. If you had a lunch cooler you could throw in string cheese, veggies, etc.

You could also get salads from the fast food places, but you might want to bring your own ff dressing.

Oh, and do you have a Subway close? Those sandwiches are tasty and low cal!

there is a cafe next door at work and they put avacado and cheese in EVERYTHING. So every day i go in and order a BLT *without* avacado or dressing or cheese, or some sushi *without* avacado.

Sure i have to wait a while for them to custom make it, but now they make it without me asking and other people are buying it that way so they have actually changed the way they make it

Now i can eat healthy and still feel like im 'buying' stuff thats norty

Just think of school lunches.
Make sandwiches in the morning or the night before.
Take fruit.
Put a salad in a container.
Maybe a musesli bar-but watch those as they can be as bad as a chocolate bar
And remember to carry a bottle of water on you

I'm going to have the same problem come January 8th. I'm starting at a different college and will be there Monday thru Thursday basicly all day. I know the food there isn't healthy but I'm going to check out their sub place. I was planning on bring the South Beach wraps. They are yummy and they really do a good job of filling me up.

Hiya, Im also a college student and also work too...so I totally understand. Do you have a locker at college? If so you could take a small cooler bag with you and fill it with yogurts, salads, fruit, sandwiches...also...you get get those lunch boxes (look like a mini cooler bag) that have a compartment at the bottom to put your cooler pack in (this would fit in your rucksack or bag). Another thing that I invested in was a food warmer and a flask. In the flask I sometimes put soup in, or low cal hot choc.....the food warmer is like a flask..but...it is wider and not as long....this is great for putting pasta in, rice, caseroles, and stew. Other good things to have in your bag is stuff like cereal bars, snack-a-jacks, dried fruit. Another idea is...still have what you are already having..but ...select the low fat/low cal options. Hope this has helped...I know its tuff being a student and working aswell...but....you can do it !!!!! Maybe try preparing your meals in advance, like the nite before. Just remember that once you've finished college things will be better...dont forget to make time for yourself !!! love Mandie xx
