I don't know what section this best belongs in, so I'll ask here I take it.
Do you think if you drink coffee maybe 10-15 minutes before a run, it'll help you reach the time when you start burning fat sooner? And increase the amount you burn? Or is this a dangerous idea, and risky for the heart.
I've decided to try it, I drank a cup of coffee about 5 minutes before a run... for the past week, the most I could run at 6.5mp/h was 20 minutes then I would feel like I was going to collapse from exhaustion.. today I actually went for 10 minutes longer... I couldn't believe it, it was the first time in my entire life I ran for 30 minutes, and it was at a decent speed for me (6.5mp/h)... and I felt like I could of kept going too.. but I didn't want to push anything so I can run tomorrow.
I think I might do this every time before I run now, then in two weeks I'll do an hour a day of running because It sure felt like I could of done an hour today.
I don't think it's dangerous... I cycle a lot in the summer and there are various energy bars that contain caffeine. I think the only thing you gotta look at in terms of healthwise is are you consuming too much caffeine throughout the day.
Personally I try to stay away from caffeine as much as possible... especially on the bike or running. I find when I crash, I crash hard.
I used to have a coffee on my way to mountain bike club rides and I found it gave me a boost. Not sure on any changes in fat burning properties though.
