Smile a teen's journey

Hi, I'm 15, about 5'7" and 220lbs. I realy don't apear to be that large because of my large frame and amount of muscle, but I still look overweight. I started to loose weight in January, I started out at abou 230, but I'm sort of at a stand still right now. I really want to loose 20lbs by my cousin's wedding in June. My mom is doing weight-watchers so we have healthy food and I have changed my diet to be healthier, I eat more veggies and drink more water.

Here are 3 reasons that I want to loose weight.
- Like I said, I'm 5'7" and 220lbs, I know that isn't healthy. So, I want to improve my health.
- I know I shouldn't care what people think about you but, we are judged all the time. I don't want my appearance to hold me back. I want to be confident and be able to wear a bakini.
- I want to pursue a carear in health and fitness, such as a dietiton and a personal trainer, but my people arn't going to take me seriously if I am fat and out of shape and tring to tell them how to eat and that they need to exercize.

I really want to get up before school and excerizie in the morning, but that hasn't been very suggsesful, but I'm goning to give it another shot.

I told myself that I need to look forward to events no matter how small or big they are so hear are some of mine.
-get a smaller dress for my cousin's wedding
-wear a bakini with confidence
-be in better shape for volleyball
-wear a size 10 (now a size 18/20)
-have a flat stomach so I can get my bellybutton peirced

I have also made some incentives for myself.
When I loose__more lbs I can get...
-5lbs earings, a neclace, fingernail polish
-10lbs new pair of jeans
-15lbs new shirt/shoes/shorts
-20lbs new swim suit

I hope people can take some ideas from me, or even give me advice.
Thanks for reading!
Love , Kayla

Hey. I know exactly how you feel being young and overweight. Try your best to make it to the gym in the morning. I recommend the elliptical machine just because thats my favorite. I'd start out with 20-30 mins a day and get up to an hour as soon as you're comfortable with that. If you can't do it or don't like it at first, a fast walk on the treadmill or some stationary biking sound get you jumpstarted towards being fit. Once you get into the elliptical and see results, I promise you'll love it! I'm here if ya need me ! Good luck and congrats on a new start !

Hi sweetie, good for you that you're working on your health and fitness. Are you following WW like your mom or some other type of plan (like calorie counting or sticking to healthy foods or whatever)? Was also wondering if you belong to a gym or what you do for exercise. You should be seeing more results in no time!

Great Job! If you stay motivate by summer your going to be a new woman!!!I like your mini goals they are really motivating!!!If you want to be able to run 2 miles without stopping maybe you can sign up for a 5k run which is 3 miles but you can also walk some parts-that way you can say you finished a race and you can build up your endurance to run 2 miles non-stop!

Wink Need some advice from you

Hi Kayla,

I'm very new to this forum stuff (actually this is myfirst post ever) so excuse my ignorance. My daughter is overweight (13) and she feels the same way as you. I try to help where possible but she has no motivation to change her shape/reduce her weight. I'm fine with this but I know that she is concerned about what other people think about her weight - so therefore, I'm concerned for her in regard to her confidence. Is there anything that you can think of that I can do to help her?

Hope all is going well with your personal goals?

Tania.

What has helped me a lot is actually writting down what I eat, like a eating journal. They say you loose 2x as much weight. Its good because then its like "oh I ate a donut yesterday for breakfast, maybe I should have a yogurt instead of my regular cereal today". You should try it!
Btws: I love the small goals setting, thats an amazing strategy!

YOU GO GIRL!!!
