I just wanted to congradulate you on everything you're doing! Those belt loops must have felt frickn' amazing! You know that you're on the right track now! And 12 lbs in 3 weeks! That is totally crazy (in a good way). Keep up the good work.

Hi Jeremy! I just read your journal and wanted to say big thumbs up on your self-honesty (a key factor IMO) and determination. Keep it up and you will get where you want to go.

I have to also admit that I wish you'd eat a bit more though. At your weight you can still create a fairly deep deficit without going quite as low as you are. There are a lot of reasons but I'll throw just one at you to think about - at some point a downward calorie adjustment is generally necessary as your body gets used to the present deficit and your weight changes. By starting at 1800 cals you are not leaving yourself any "wiggle room" to downward adjust along the line.

Jeremy, I agree with cym's advice above -- 1,800 calories is just too little for a guy your size. I would start with a diet around 2,750 calories. As cym says, that will still give you a nice daily deficit.

Also, I would NOT do HIIT or high intensity cardio until you're sure that your ticker is OK. At your weight, you don't want to take chances with pushing your heart too hard. If your doc gives you the OK, start off slowly. Do some 3 or 4 minute intervals at 70% or 75% of max. As you get used to that, build it up from there.

I did interval training for 3 months before I even tried HIIT. Now I can do sprints and hill climbs with the best of them, but I got there gradually.

I do think you may want to up your calories. I'm at 2,000 myself and that seems to work, but I also know I approximate and I probably underestimate by 100 to 200 calories per day. You need to be careful with your heart, but by percentage you probably aren't as overweight as your simple weight would indicate. I know I was about 270 when I was wearing size 48 pants and from everything you say I imagine you either have big bones or big muscles. It is better to be safe than sorry, but your ideal weight is probably pretty high.

i would like to thank you all for all your motivational words and advice. they will all be taken into consideration..

as per the calories, like i said im not truly sure the exact count. but its abuot 5 meals that are healthy and fill me up. if you check out my pic on page one u will see my size and frame, im a really big boned tall person, so the 350 was worn well at a size 48 waiste and xxl shirts.. i usually bought xxxl because they offered LONGER shirts.

and as for the HIIT , i will layoff and work my way up to it i guess. i didnt feel like i was gunna throw up or pass out or anything like that, but i trust u guys exeperience.

if i dont post much after today its cuz im away on vacation, but i will stay STRICT and still exercise and bring back a progress report on sunday

Hi Jeremy, just finished reading your journal. It's great to see your motivation and also to see you are staying on track during vacation. Personally, I find travel to be a significant challenge to eating right and working out consistently.

Stick with it and know that we are all here to support you! I'm anxious for you to see that 349.......

well i got back sunday at like 3. felt like i missed out a lot of gym time so went to the gym at 4. my heart has grown, and now i have to work harder and go faster to get to my target heart rate, so thats a big PLUS!!!

ellipticall'd for 1 hour and then hit some weights for my chest and shoulder and triceps.

cant wait to get in the gym tonight.

at disney i drank all water, had 2 mixed drinks one night.. had to, sorry but just did, i worked em off walking round pleasure island and dancing. and i had lots of fruit and grilled chicken while there, so it was not as bad as i thought it would be.

had grilled pork with brown rice last night and oj and a dannon light and fit today for breakfast

happy monday!

and i think im right around 352 now!! so im hoping!!! hoping!! this week i see 349

Hiya Jeremy! Sounds like your trip was a lot of fun and it looks like you did really well on the food front...mixed drinks and all. Anyway, that's sort of the point - not living like a monk always going "I abstain" and shying away from fun and the occassional food/drink indulgence, just learning the "right" balance for you as an individual. For what it's worth, I think you are doing terrific! Have a great week.

That's great you're starting to really enjoy your gym sessions. The same thing happened to me.

One suggestion -- if you're going to do cardio and lifting on the same day, always do the lifting first. If you're tired out from cardio, you won't get the real benefits from lifting, but you can get the benefits from cardio, even if you're tired from lifting. Make sense?
