Girl on a Mission: Miss Muffet's Ramblings and Such

i've been blogging for a while, but never anything quite like this. i suppose here in this diary i'll be dealing with the facts: what i've eaten, how much i've lost, how i'm feeling, how sore i am from the trainer's incessant "one more! you can do it!"s... but i do expect to see change. change in a very good way!

i guess people want to get fit for a lot of different reasons. to look great, to be healthier, simply for the challenge. for me, it's a combination of all those things. diabetes and heart disease run rampant in my family, and i am in no hurry to deal with those afflictions. at eighteen, i'm doing a real disservice to my body by not keeping it in perfect working order. and of course, i suppose the boys won't mind a new, firmer, toner me in fact, i wouldn't mind a new, firmer, toner me either...

today is day three of my "diet," which isn't really a diet so much as a new way of eating. before, i'd eat two meals a day (maybe). now, i'm eating 5 meals a day and drinking 80 ounces of water. as for exercise, right now i weight train for 30 minutes, 5 times a week with a personal trainer and do 45 minutes of cardio (usually swimming) 6 times a week. or at least, that's the plan. i'm two days into it.

i'm excited and terribly impatient. can't wait to see some results, even a pound off is something

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on her Tuffet
eating her curds and whey
Along came a spider and sat down beside her
and frightened miss muffet away

we need a rewrite

Little miss muffet stood on her elliptical
Drinking her whey protein shake (and bowl of high protein cottage cheese)
along came a personal trainer and sat down beside her
and helped chase those pounds away

Ok so it's clear i'll never be a poet

Hey Miss Muffet welcome to WLF. You don't have that much to lose and its feasible you could be at your goal in a relatively short period of time. Good for you for working with a trainer.

haha maleficent, shall we try that again?

little miss muffet
sat on her tuffet
instead of taking a run
she gained a few pounds
then turned around
and said something must be done!

she went to the gym
and there had a swim
her trainer says she's a winner
with the help of some weights
and chocolate protein shakes
she'll surely become a lot slimmer!

yay for creativity. and thanks happychubette... losing the weight quickly would be great since i go back to college in late august, and eating right will become more of a challenge there.

hah, numbers... mental math is one hundred percent magic as far as i know. so i guess you can keep your numbers, maleficent, and i'll keep my rhymes

BREAKFAST
two slices whole wheat bread with red raspberry jelly
LUNCH
leftover basil chicken from last night (delicious! i ought to post the recipe) and brown rice
SNACK
kashi go-lean crunch cereal (dry) and 8 baby carrots
DINNER
whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce
PROTEIN BEFORE BEDTIME
cottage cheese with two strawberries

so this is what i ate today, which is pretty typical. sometimes i'll make a strawberry banana smoothie and throw in some whey protein and have that for breakfast. how's it look? i'm proud to say that absolutely no cheating went on yesterday or today (hah, the two days of my "eating plan"), and i plan on it staying that way!

by the way... i just went to go see "knocked up" with some friends. vulgar stuff, but absolutely hilarious. i couldn't count the times i burst out laughing because i'd run out of fingers and toes. not that i can't count without the aid of hand and foot extremities... hrm hrm. anyway, the movie definitely pushes the envelope with some of the lines. man. next movie: evan almighty. be sure to check back for my review. i'm sure you all are ridiculously anxious waiting for it

Hey! Glad that you chose to lose weight! It's a beautiful transformation that leaves us in tears =}. Did you check your BMR?
(Your weight) x (15) = Calories to maintain your weight. Eat less than that number, but don't go under 1,200..and depdning on your stats, you might want to eat more than 1,200. Like me for example

Age: 16
Gender: Male
Weight: 255
Height: 6'1

I can eat about 3,000 cals a day and still lose weight, because it takes 3,850 cals to maintain my weight, but then it'll take longer to lose weight, so I eat about 2,000. Then kicking in the factor that i'm still a growing boy xD.

So hope you uhm, learned new info!

Whoot whoot.!

jamesdgk, my bmr is 1568 calories according to the fancy shmancy scale at the gym. my trainer says that's the amount of calories my body would burn if i just lay like a lump all day with zero physical activity. he told me that i should probably eat somewhere between 1800 and 2000 calories so that my body doesn't go into "starvation mode" and store everything i eat. through exercise i should create a deficit, and that's how the weight will come off. now, i haven't been counting calories... and i know that's bad. i will start today. but by your math, my bmr is 2400! big difference there. how exactly do you define bmr?

thanks for your help you've motivated me to stop slacking and start counting.

so i just woke up about an hour ago and ate some breakfast. a bowl of kashi go-lean crunch (which i LOVE) and a strawberry with 2% milk. i'm trying to wean myself off of 2% and get to drinking skim, but yuck! i feel like i might as well drink water. my goal is to be drinking skim milk by the time i go to visit my aunt in california on july 12. that gives me about two and a half weeks. wish me luck!

for lunch i had an indian curry. these are quite healthy the way my mom makes them, and crazy delicious. it was made of green onions and chickpea flour with various spices. i also had 1/2 cup nonfat plain yogurt and two small whole wheat tortillas.

i think for cardio today i'll close the door to my room, turn the music way up, and dance for at least 30 minutes get my heart rate up. i'm too lazy to get dressed and shave my legs so i can go to the gym... bleh. tomorrow will be a rest day, then monday through friday is weight training with cardio.

i am going shopping now with my mother (whom i love so dearly), and i think i'll tell her to park in the farthest corner of the parking lot she'll be proud of me, and she won't mind the walk.

alas! i seem to have run out of water in my trusty water bottle. off to take care of that...

I like the dancing idea! A fun way to approach something that's less than desirable!

I'm definitely looking forward to reading your posts! Good luck!

my dad just said something that made me so happy he said, "you are going to be so beautiful once the thirty pounds are gone."

now, he thinks i'm beautiful now, don't get me wrong. but he's my dad... he HAS to think that. when he said it, it felt like he really meant that i was going to be inarguably beautiful in the eyes of absolutely everyone in the world i've always had some self esteem issues what with being overweight, even though i NEVER act like it. so what he said has really motivated me. my dad's the tough love type when it comes to weight loss, too. "you're not healthy" is something i used to hear regularly, and he's right. heart disease and diabetes and high blood pressure all run in my family as i've said before. and if i stayed on the track i had been... well, the fact is that i'm not on that track anymore! i'm on the track to BEAUTIFUL!!

my head should have hit my pillow five minutes ago, so i'm going to make this a quick, no fun entry straight up calorie counting, since i vowed to start today. here we go...

breakfast: kashi go lean crunch and 2% milk
lunch: green onion curry, yogurt, tortilla
snack: strawberry banana smoothie and half serving kashi go lean crunch (love the stuff)
dinner: the last of the basil chicken with 2/3 cup cooked brown rice and 1 slice whole wheat toast (plain)
protein before bedtime: 1 cup cottage cheese and 1 tbsp raspberry jelly

total calories: 1517

my goal is to get 1800 calories per day. i'm almost done calculating the grams of fat, protein, and carbohydrates, but i'll post that later cause i'm about to fall over. good night, all

miss muffet

ps: thanks to both kristib135 and ms. gordon for your sweet, sweet words in times when i'm not having so many sweet, sweet things
