Haha, I totally feel you on the red-face treadmill syndrome. I've seen people on the treadmill next to me look at me like they think I'm going to keel over of a heart attack or something, I get so flushed. It's just 'cause I'm fair-skinned, though.

I admire your workout ethic when the scales don't show! Bravo!!

Thanks kindly for the encouragement, Maverick! It looks like we are pretty close weight wise. Indeed I got on that dang treadmill yet again (but Biggest Loser was on, so I was pretty inspired!) and also did my sit-ups and push-ups. At first I could barely do 10 of each, then I was ready to keel over! Now I do a good 40 of both. I will continue to work my way up. I don't have any weights, so currently my body has to stand in for my "resistance training".

I feel so much better now that I am REALLY pushing myself physically. Except I hate having to have a bath/shower & wash my hair every single day. Winters are so dry here, I can just feel my hair & skin suffering! I am amazed at how much sweat comes off my scalp, truly! Ewww I am thankful that my plantar fasciitis isn't bothering me anymore, because that was truly evil.

All for now. I sure do hope to see a loss this week!

cheers

Hi Janice

Well done for getting such a commendable loss on your home scales. It surely must be detected at WW soon.

Clearly there is a problem with the WW scales. Or at least that would be one explanation. Do the other attendees look just about ready to start a riot? Otherwise are you eating / drinking much before your WW meeting? Try and go to a morning meeting if possible (I know you have just said about loads of work commitments - but maybe there will be one early or lunchtime).

If you dont have weights you can do other forms of that type of exercise at home.

You can do chair dips from one of your dining room chairs.
Also wall squats and push ups against the wall.

You can also use things like small full water bottles and baked bean tins as weights and do the various arm exercises. One of my friends filled little water bottles with pebbles. I bought little hand weights very cheaply at the supermarket.

Take care
Love
Margaret

A long, hard day at work, followed by difficult news about my Mum. I mentioned that she is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. She has been for many years; we thank God that she is progressing very, very slowly. However, it sounds as though she is slipping lately, which is so hard. We are very close. She is planning to take a big holiday in March, but now I am not sure if that is a good idea. I was hoping to go on a cruise with her myself next year (never having done such a thing), but now all is up in the air. She is such a wonderful person.

At any rate, I was feeling terribly anxious about it all by the time I got home, not quite knowing what to do, wanting to just eat junk (thank the good Lord I don't have much of that on hand!), not able to focus. We had to take the kids out and didn't get home until 8:30...when I GOT ON THE TREADMILL FOR AN HOUR! So for me. Now I am sweaty but feeling much better. I didn't think I had it in me, but I guess I did!

Tomorrow is the ever fateful weigh in day. I am so used to being on a plateau that I don't even really have the gumption to go get weighed. I'm sure I haven't lost anything this week, either. Perhaps I will just have to put up with maintaining over the holidays?

One thing I have noticed, though - my hair loss has slowed drastically over the past month while I haven't been losing as much. What's up with that? I mean, it's a good thing I'm not losing my hair so fast (it was a tad scary and very disheartening), but seems weird. My acne appears to be in full swing, however. I find it embarrassing and hard to deal with, never having had ANY trouble with my skin before. I guess I was just a very blessed teenager! I sure do hate it. Makeup doesn't seem to cover it up adequately, either. I drink loads of water, and wash my face daily...it just seems part and parcel with PCOS, I guess.

Anyway, good for me for getting on that treadmill. I can't do a thing to change my Mum's health, just love and support her.

That's a big problem for me, too. I have really dry skin and hair, and when I overwash my hair it becomes really coarse, almost like a dog's pelt.

I feel ya with the sweating, too. Today at the gym the sweat was literally pouring off of me, dripping off my nose, stinging my eyes, the works (which looks pretty ridiculous when you're just going 3.0 mph on a Nautilus, but that machine will work your butt off after about ten minutes!!) I decided today I'm gonna have to start taking a sweat rag, haha...

And good for you for getting on that treadmill!! Hooah!

Hey girl! Sorry to hear about your mom... My own mom died four years ago next week- I never got the chance to do a cruise with her or anything like that, and only being 25 its a little bit heartbreaking... Like you said tho- love and support her, she's with you now, and thats all that matters.

AND- even if you hafta just maintain thru the season, thats sometimes the hardest to do! So just keep trekkin, you'll bust thru it soon enuf.

Hi Janice

I am working as hard as ever on my weight loss project - but I have decided that I will consider maintaining my Dec 1st weight to Jan 2nd a major success. We are all going to be tempted so many times over this month and it is a month where most people put on weight. Naturally if I can lose weight I will be delighted - but we should not ignore the success involved in not gaining over Christmas.

Go to your weight watchers and get weighed. I hope that the scales head in the right direction for you - you deserve it. I bet in a few weeks time some of your fellow group members will have seen their weight go up.

I am pleased to hear that your hair loss has slowed. They say that PCOS things improve if we can get our weight under control and fairly thin. I havent noticed any major improvement in my facial hair associated with weight loss yet. My weight still has a long way to go as I know that I have a small frame.

I am sorry to hear that things are not going too well for your mother. You have done very well by heading for the treadmill. You have also benefitted from the sensible move of not having the junk food available.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Janice,
Your doing so awesome! I am sorry about your mom...

On a happier note..
AN hour on the treadmill .. whoot whoot!

As for acne.. I get the same thing once in a while..
I usually find its what I am using the clean my face with ...sometimes if you use a seperate face cloth ..from the one you use on your body ...you can clear it up ..
or use Neutrogena ..if you can ..if they have it where you are ... it works really well ..its the best ... its the foaming one ...

best wishes hun
You rock!!

Yes, I got weighed - and yes, I remain at 176. I am trying not to get totally upset and frustrated - I have obviously learned, during this time, how to maintain my loss. I simply have not gone up or down more than 2 oz over the past month or so! But with all the extra sweets at work and parties etc., I shall agree with Margaret that simply maintaining over the holidays is a feat in itself!

Happily, when I try on skirts that were too tight one month ago, they are now considerably looser - so I am losing inches even though the pounds are not showing a loss.

JESS: I am extremely sorry that you were deprived of your mother at such a young age! I hope that you have/get a M-I-L who is wonderful to you, and treats you as her daughter

NJ:Thanks for the tips regarding skin blemishes. I have tried honey on my skin the past, and it seems to help some, though leaves my pillow case a little sticky! LOL

MARGARET: This whole PCOS thing stinks. While the hair on my head falls out, the hair on my face comes in more heavily and coarse! A total rip off, if you ask me. Not to mention my eensy-weensy mood swings...

I am feeling better today than last night. I decided not to go to work today, went to my WW meeting and then did some shopping and cleaned house. I am hosting an early Christmas dinner with my own family, my folks, my brothers, and one of their girlfriends on the 18th, as we will be gone over Christmas. I am making a ham in the crock pot, broccoli meringue, peas & carrots, Dutch apple cream pie, scalloped potatoes, and...oh yes, butter tarts, ginger snaps, and Alpine (Toblerone) short bread! I don't think I have left anything out... In addition to working this week and being involved in the kids' school productions, I sense a busy time...

All for now, many thanks for your steady encouragement.
xo Jan

Janice

I am pleased that you are feeling better.

It is so much more important that you are getting the result in inches than any result that the scales could ever provide. Inches are what people see. You want to look good when you walk around and wear nice clothes (both of which you are achieving nicely) - it is not that you want to put less strain on the floorboards. The weight is immaterial.

Regarding facial hair - take my advice. Get lasered now while you are young. My problem is that lasering was not widely available when I was young so I had decades of electrolysis. I did not try laser until comparitively recently. I was just being a wimp and there is nothing to it. The problem is that most laser machines do not work on white or grey hairs. My brown hairs worked pretty well and I now have a lot less of them and they take noticeably longer to come in. The only problem is that I had quite a few course white or grey hairs and they are not touched by it. I now have to go to a specialist place to try and get the white or grey hairs lasered and it is uncertain as yet how successful that will be.

Have an enjoyable early christmas dinner with the family. It all sounds like a lot of fun.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Thanks for the advice, Margaret! I will look into pricing for laser in the New Year.

FOOD DIARY - SAT. DEC 15 points allowed: 23
Breakfast:
3 egg whites + 3Tbsp LF chs + 1 slice turkey lunch meat + 1 english muffin
= 7 WW points
This leaves me 16 points today. I also have 35 bonus points per week to use at my discretion, 5 per day I guess if I choose. Since I am prepaid with WW, I certainly intend to get my money's worth out of the programme! It has worked marvelously well for me thus far, helping me to drop a whopping 35 pounds!!!
In just another 5 pounds, I will have lost a total of 40. That is amazing to me! I am currently at 176, and my goal is 155.

I have reviewed my WW materials this morning, eaten a yummy & satisfying breakfast, and am renewed in my determination to continue losing! I can eat absolutely whatever I want (even treats! ) so long as I CONTROL MY PORTION SIZES and WRITE IT DOWN. This is the key for me. For now I will write my food in this diary, but I am also journalling it on paper to help keep track.
Lunch
1/4 C eggnog =2 pts 1 chocolate=1.5 pts 45 pretzel rods =2 pts 1oz LF cheese = 2
=7.5 WW pts
I have 8.5 regular points left today, not counting bonus points.

Dinner
2 chicken nuggets =3 pts + veggies =0 +ginger dressing = 2pts + 2 gingersnaps = 1 pt
=6 pts, TODAY'S TOTAL =20.5 pts. I did also have some sugar in my coffee, plus some sugar free jam on my english muffin this morning, so it about adds up.
OOH LA LA, here I come!

Hi there, I thought I'd come along and have a look at your diary. You're so motivated! It's so impressive!

I tried WW myself about a year ago, but couldn't manage the weekly meetings (too difficult to juggle the timetables what with work, kids, studies...). But it seems to be a good system, and it certainly seems to be working well for you. Keep at it! See ya around!

Wow, Abba, that's totally amazing that you've lost 35 pounds already! I'm so excited for you! You've already lost more than you have left to lose, so you're more than halfway through.

It's especially admirable, considering you're having to deal with PCOS too...I didn't know anything about the syndrome until I met you and a couple of other people on this forum with it and did a little research...man, what a rough deal!

Writing stuff down (even the bad stuff) is real important for me, too. The more I skip writing down, the greater chance I will eat something naughty and pretend that it never existed. I'm the queen of denial.

"I'm the queen of denial" - Maverick (Funny, I thought it was Cleopatra who was the Queen of d' Nile...)

I still laugh when I remember something my dear Mom said a few years back, when I mentioned a difficult time in our family. She said: "I'm not denying it - I'm just saying it didn't happen!" LOL I shall never forget that one.

Mom invited us over for dinner (the girls and I just went for a soak in her hot tub...pretty nice on a chilly CDN winter's day) but I will write down every morsel I ingest (see above), just to keep me accountable. I RULE!

Cheers
