HOW: Weight Watchers + wogging (walking + jogging) + drinking approximately the volume of one small lake every single day.
WHY: PCOS health concerns, and... vanity
I've struggled with my weight since puberty. I am one pear-shaped Mamma, but when I do get to a healthy weight, I am pretty dang curvy and hour-glass shaped.
PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) means DANGER lurking right ahead: diabetes, heart disease, uterine cancer...but let me tell you, those all paled in comparison to: GOING BALD and GROWING FACIAL HAIR. omgosh, I REFUSE to morph into my Father! LOL So, I have been greatly motivated to change my entire way of eating and living. Now that the first 20 pounds have melted away, I am truly able to get moving, too. I had a wretched problem with plantar fasciitis for the last 2 years, but it is sooooo much better now. How I thank God, because let me tell you, that was brutal pain to be in. So now I can walk daily, and am gently easing into some jogging, too.
All for now, thanks for checking it out! Best wishes to all of us on this journey. Man, we are gonna look SMOKIN' hot!

You sound like you have a great attitude about everything, definately a good thing I agree with you- we ARE gonna be smokin hot, lol.
Have a great day, keep us updated!
Thanks for the interest and the encouragement, Jess.
It is 8:55 a.m. and things are looking good today. I've already been out for my first power walk, after dropping the littles off at school.
My minigoal for this week is to log my food Mon-Fri. I haven't been doing it for the past 6 weeks or so, as I've been wanting to see if I can lose the weight simply by cutting back on calories and exercising. However, I think I may not have been getting adequate protein this past week, as I did not lose any weight; so I shall get back to writing it all down to help keep track. I truly need my changes to be sustainable, as I must keep my weight down FOR GOOD once I reach my goal.

Here's to all of us!
Hello Abba,
I too have PCOS and the hair growth has already happened for me. It stinks, but thats what they made razors for. I just get hair growth on my lower abdomen, my face and that it I believe, my neck. but it is controled.
But I am also pre diabetic ..so the reasoning of my weight loss other than vanity, is also for your very reasons as well!
Nice to meet you, NatalieJo. I have had hair darkening on my face, and also have noticed hair loss on my head over the last month or so. I was fairly devastated by it, but my DH used to be a hair dresser, so he just gave me a new style to help camouflage it. It seemed like a kick in the stomach, as I have been working so hard to lose weight. Do you know if once our weight is under control the hair loss/hair growth in unwanted places will stop? And are you taking any meds for the PCOS, or simply working at controlling it via diet and exercise?
Thanks for taking the time to write and encourage me! All the best to you on your own journey.
Welcome here! I had to pop in and check on you, as your name made me laugh...my daughter Isabelle is nicknamed Abba, and I always call her Abbagirl. LOL!
Good luck to you, and congratulations on what you've lost so far!!

I have talking with the doctors and they tell me the hair growth never seems to go away, but slows down ... you dont get as much hair.. it stinks.. I hate having to shave my chin and neck everyday, but my bf is accepting it.. which is really nice ..he is a good guy ..most of the time ..lol
but as far as hair loss .. I have not noticed any hair loss, just hair growth. It stinks. But pcos is a battle! and one we both win over it... we will be much happier people in the end!
best wishes hun
will drop in again!
always
natalie jo
Oh and since the doc told me I am in the change all the time from the pcos ... I take a pill every two or three months..that makes me have a period for seven days ..its an ok flow .. I just wish I could take it more often ..but I suffer from mental disorders and being on the rag and having mental disorders ..is no fun!
Hey Natalie Jo
How did they diagnose your PCOS? I gained weight and developed a butterfly rash on my face, so they started checking me for lupus, which lead to more tests and more tests...I was relieved when it was not lupus or lymphoma, but who wants to battle it out with hormones EVER? Geez Louise, puberty was hard enough! And I am waa-aa-aaay too young for menopause (a young 37, ya know). I think they caught mine much earlier than yours, as I have not suffered too much in terms of hirsuitism. I am glad you have a BF, it really helps to have someone to cuddle when we are feeling blue! Mind you, with losing weight, I am RARELY blue these days!
TTYS and take care

Reason: OMG I put in THE WRONG AGE! Could be Alzheimers...
Hi Daryqueen
LOL I laugh when I read your name, too! Because you know I just *LOVE* DQ!
Thanks for the pat on the back for my weight loss. It really does feel good, and it is such a bonus when others comment, too. Check out my pics on the Before & After & In between page!
BTW, what does it mean "Rep Power" and then so many (or so few) green dots? How does one gain Rep Power? Or give it? Hmmmm...so much to learn for this decidedly non-tekky gal! LOL

They did a ultrasound of my lower abdomen and found build up and told me if I did not go on a birth control pill, which would ultimately kick the pcos in the proverbial ass it would not occurr. But being with bipolar, I go into psychosis when put on a hormonal pill. The pill makes depression worse, much worse, and it actually states anyone who suffers from depression not to go on it.
I tried it again, but a less hormonal pill, but I ended up going psychotic, so I refused to take it this time. Now he has me on a pill that makes me have my "period" taboo word lol every two months. It sucks when I have it, because I go into such mood swings, much worse than any non mentally disordered woman. But I take it and I am always happy while taking it ..because I know it is taking away from the control of the pcos....but I wish I could take it every month, but I can't. It sucks. But I have already gone through the change. I finished hot flashes years ago. I don't get them anymore. Sucks, but I don't want children anyway, so I am lucky..and neither does my bf want children ..so we are a good match in our goals ... for each other and seperately ...
anyway ... I am happy you are happy irregardless of the pcos... I worry a lot because of my disorders and it stinks... I should be more positive .. I am taking a walk tomorrow and I hope I can reach the zen that you have about your sitution, which is similar to mine!

Thanks again
Normally, rep is given if someone says something especially profound. LOL! You click on the link below their picture.
Yesterday was a great day. I got in 3 walks and only ate 1/3 of my incredibly yummy pasta dinner at Eastside Mario's. My dh can have the rest for dinner tonight while I am at work.
Today I've already been out for one walk with my Mom, which was great. I will also walk to work, which takes about 1/2 an hour. It is such a treat getting to walk again, now that my plantar fasciitis has calmed significantly. It is still irritable, but not as "angry" as it was. LOL Isn't that a funny way to put it? I work in medical transcription and I always laugh out loud when the doc is doing a butt scope and says he saw "some angry hemorrhoids!" LOLOL!
I did a pretty good job of journaling my food yesterday; must also do it today. I woke up this morning and could tell I've lost at least another pound. It's funny how you can just tell sometimes. I don't own a scale, so will have to wait for my Friday weigh-in to see the truth. Regardless, my body shape is definitely changing, as I am fitting clothes that sure didn't fit a month ago! It is so wonderful to lose this weight that has been DRAGGING ME DOWN for the past few years! All is right in my world.
Looks like all is going well for you so far, congrats on the weight already lost. Angry hemorrhoids! is a scarey thought, possibly becuase I watch too much House and can iagine him agititatign them witha battery of tests.
I don't know how you resisted eating all of eat sides food ( I love it , especially the funnel cake dessert) but it's good you did. I'm certain your dh appreciates the leftovers ^-^

Today is starting out well. I have already done my first power walk. Now for house cleaning and another walk! I did not journal my food yesterday, but am back at it today. I think I don't eat enough if I don't write it down. I am rarely hungry, but realize that I need a good balance of protein & carbs to actually lose weight.
I was frustrated last week that I didn't lose anything by way of the scale, but I can definitely feel that my clothes (esp. pants/skirts) are getting looser and looser. How I HATE being shaped like a pear! GRRR...finding pants that get over my hips/thighs and fit my waist is IMPOSSIBLE. The waist is always a mile too big. *sigh* I guess Stacy & Clinton ("What Not to Wear") would just tell me to go to a tailor, but I get the feeling those two are not living on a budget! LOL If I get a NEW pair of pants, there is no money for tailoring. However, if I shop at Value Village, that is a possibility, I guess.
It has been so very long since I've purchased pants, because I hate pants shopping and because I got so big. Finally now I am pants shopping, and do you know they don't make pants normal anymore? Everything is a mile below my naval! LOL I hope they are making shirts longer, because I sure don't want 3 inches of flesh showing between top & bottom! It's crazy! Would someone with some common sense PLEASE enter the fashion industry on behalf of all women (or at least on behalf of those of us who are shaped like pears)? hee hee
Well, time to go write down my breakfast. I am so thankful for this forum, it has been a great inspiration to me! I love my life.
