Shattered?? WHY? because it's dreary?? or because you don't seem to walk as many steps during the rain? Don't worry sweets, just pick right back up tomorrow and don't worry about it! I have what they call, weather depression and when it's raining for more than 2 straight days I get in a real funk, I HATE dark days, I'm a sunshine girl myself. But, I just try and plug through as I have to keep remembering two things, ONE: it won't last much longer, and TWO: we wouldn't have the gorgeous green trees and flowers if it wasn't for the rain, so I just deal with it the best I can. Chin up and keep smiling, your doing a fabulous job

Hi Kim

Thanks for your concern.

I too am a sunshine girl and much prefer the dry weather. I do try and see it as a temporary event.

I possibly used the wrong word with shattered - possibly exhausted with a strong overtime of "at times I hate English weather when it rains and will not stop". I am about to post my diary entry - so you will see what I mean.

I forced myself to do a full stepcount - although I do admit that when someone offered me a lift home from yoga I was sorely tempted.

The fact is that the stepcount is central to my weight loss project - part of me does not really know what would happen if I didnt go out one day. Apart from 1 week in the Spring when I was ill, went to the doctors and was on antibiotics I have been out walking every day since this began in February - building things up. I have failed on calorie counting diets in the past after once going over. That is why I do not count calories.

I suppose that is why I have already set a low but achievable target for this weekend.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Tuesday 09/10/07

Setting the scene – before the day began I was told by husband that I needed to go to Tescos Tuesday as things needed to be bought and he wanted me in the house from 10 a.m. onwards Wednesday to take a delivery for him. Also continuous heavy rain was forecast. Sensible people decided not to go out!

It was torrential rain starting overnight and kept up all day. I set out about 9 a.m. – walked in the rain until my yoga class at 11.30 – did yoga from 11.30 until 1 p.m. (in wet clothes) and then had to walk to Tescos in the rain and then home about 2.30 p.m. in the rain. The road outside was one giant puddle. I wore my storm jacket but was soaked to the skin and still needed to change into dry clothes the minute I got home.

At 3.30p.m. I went out in the heavy rain again. I walked for about an hour and got soaked to the skin again. Again – I had to change when I got home.

At 5.30 p.m. husband came home so we went out walking again.

I am now having to fit in an extra load of washing / drying on Wednesday to deal with all the clothes that we went through today.

Husband had already caught cold – so we have both started taking Echinacea for a few days (I always catch these things from him – and I sneezed before the end of the day). I will also have honey in my diet too.

Oh – and on top of everything I have to monitor my toilet habits as I have become inclined to constipation – hence the excessive amounts of raisins. I don’t like taking laxatives even though my doctor has told me that it is sensible when the occasion arises – I am nervous of developing bulimia. If I was counting calories the honey and raisins would be adding up here.

General Data:

Morning walk = 7.3 miles.
Round the block = 4 times (on one lap my husband came too)
Extra exercises = yoga class
Weight = 14st 1.0lbs (i.e. 197 pounds)
Steps = 31,322
Distance = 11.61 miles
Remembered to take normal vitamin / supplements – plus Echinacea - added garlic to the daily list which is now
Multivitamin
Starflower oil
Omega 3
garlic
Continued my creaming regime – missed off a bio-oil massage.

Food / Drink:

1 banana
3 weetabix, 1 heaped teaspoon of sweetener (a level teaspoon is apparently 1.9 calories) and the (large) bowl topped up with skimmed milk.
1 glass (200ml) grapefruit juice – 82 calories
1 glass (200ml) orange juice – 92 calories
150g crumbed ham, half a cucumber, 5 home grown tomatoes
3 large handfuls of raisins
1 large mounded teaspoon honey (Greek – from my friend Maria’s bees)
2 litres of cold water
some diet cola

Hi sweetie!

What a Tuesday you had!

I wonder if you'd have better luck with using benefiber - fiber tablets - etc.?

Even a slice or 2 of multi-grain - whole wheat bread added to your plan?

*Hang in there!*

Thanks Stacy and Cat for your suggestions. I will be giving both these a try in the near future.

I never had problems in nearly 48 years with at times a less than perfect diet.

All of a sudden back in June I started getting some quite nasty abdominal pains after I had been eating a more balanced diet than I had in years and certainly plenty of fruit.

After we hit on what the most likely cause was - I started on the dry fruit and increased the water.

I hope that today is going well for you both.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hi Natalie Jo,

Thanks for visiting my diary again.

I will certainly try the watermelon suggestion soon too. Although obviously the next few days are going to be a bit unpredictable diet wise with being away.

I know on Friday my food is going to be really high because we are eating at a friends house - and I am not going to make friends suffer.

Tuesday was one of the most horrible days' walking all year. In some ways it was the worst yet - because in the past I was covering less milage and therefore out for less time.

I have to say that I am really delighted that my husband has started coming for a walk in the evening. No matter how much mileage I have already done - I will do more if he is willing to walk. He has been out for a little walk each night for about a week and a half. He weighed himself earlier in the week and he had lost a couple of pounds. Dont misunderstand - I will still love him if his weight doubles - just I worry about him with his father having died so young. He knows that I view his walking as a present to me.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hi Margaret
You may have covered this in an earlier post, but do you have a treadmill in your home? I use mine during our long, cold winters. Set it right in front of the telly (in the rec room downstairs) and walk off the pounds whilst watching Oprah! LOL Works like a charm.

I have a rule about watching one of my favorite shows called The Biggest Loser: I must walk/jog in place during the entire show! It is such a great way to get in some more exercise. By the end, the sweat is dripping off of me, and I've had a great time!

You are working hard and deserve to be losing lots of pounds and stones. I hope your hubby irons out his WL issues and joins you, so you can enjoy a long, happy, healthy marriage!

Cheers
Janice

Hi Janice,

I dont have a treadmill at home - and I cannot really think of anywhere to put one if I did. We do not have houses as spacious as you in the "new world". My house has one living room and I think that a treadmill would pretty much mean that there wasn't room for us!!!!

My husband has muttered about maybe getting one for me sometime - but the only place that we could put it would be in the garage at the bottom of the garden. This is less than ideal as it is a/ not weatherproof - a lot of repairs are definitely needed (e.g. new roof, new door) and b/ full of stuff e.g. boxes with a tarpaulin over from when we moved back here. There is no heating there even if we had the repair work done - so I cannot imagine it to be very inviting - even then.

The only real solution for a treadmill is to join a gym and they are pretty expensive - and in the past when we have joined gyms we have virtually never gone after the first month or so of enthusiasm.

I am certainly going to have to find some solution to getting my steps in during the worst of the weather. Maybe a shorter walk combined with a lengthy spell of dancing around the house!!!!!!

As far as working hard and losing weight goes - you know that this is harder for us PCOS ladies. If we just work as hard as others when they lose weight - the chances are that we will gain weight - or stand still. It is not fair - but that is just the way that it is. We have proved that we can do it - we just have to do it tough.

Thank you for your good wishes regarding my husband.

Take care
Love
Margaret
