I just got back from the gym. I reached my mile mark and decided to go a bit further today. I walked a full 30 min and it came to 1.25 miles. Yeah! I'm going to try to keep that 1.25 mile going and work up from there. I made sure to remember my mp3 player! I can't dance to save my life, but I can sure walk to the beat. And the beat of the music kicks off something in me.

I didn't sleep well last night again. It seems I woke up every hour on the hour. And to top it off, I woke up 1/2 hour before the alarm went off because my bladder was full. I love my sleep and anything that disturbs it...well.... GRRRRRR!!!!

One more thing... the lady who owns the gym and I got to talking today. The subject of my husbands foot drop came up and she said she was a physical therapist and worked for the Red Wings. She said she could help him and show him the exercises he needed to do and he had a good chance of repairing the dead nerve. So, I just called hubby and he's excited about it. Because of his job, he is gone a lot and cannot make appts. so he never went to his physical therapy. But she said we could call her when he was going to be at the gym and she would come in special for him. Isn't that nice?

Ok, I gotta drive my daughter to school now, so see ya later.

Hey Time!!

Boy do I know what you mean about sleep. I was up at 6:30 this morning to get ready for a 9 o'clock class, and it only lasted half an hour!! grrr is right! I am not amused.

It's great that you're enjoying the gym- and what an awesome thing that the therapist can help your hubby and his foot, i hope all goes well with that, and let me know how it goes
I find it very inspiring that you work out everyday- infact, I'm feeling a little motivated to head off to the gym myself, I do have an extra 2 1/2 hours now that my class is over...

whereabouts do you live? I was reading on your other posts that you were mentioning frost... I'm up in vancouver, bc- we don't have frost yet, but we have a really cold wind at night and in the morning that howls between the the houses...

Hi Anne,

I am so pleased that you had such a good result at the gym. Extending your walk was brilliant - I knew it would happen for you - and then getting some really positive news regarding your husband's foot was the icing on the cake. A double result if ever there was one. I do hope that the physiotherapy will improve his condition - I wondered if there were certain exercises that could help. Let us know how it goes.

Drinking two litres of water a day certainly keeps my kidneys well flushed too. I get up a couple of times for the toilet just about every night. If I am drinking late - I have seen me up just about every hour. The raisins have a benefit in helping me get through my two litres of water a bit earlier in the day.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Question

I just got back from the gym and you'll never GUESS what I walked! I walked 2 miles!!! Woo Hoo!!! It took me 45 min, but I did it! I started off at 2.2 and worked my way up to 2.7. I don't know what got into me, but I just kept walking and walking.......actually, they were playing some really good music on my station, so that helped A LOT!

I am thrilled that I walked 2 miles, but I wonder if I can keep up doing 2 miles every time? I hit a milestone this morning when I walked 1.25... So, today in total, I walked 3.25 miles on the treadmill and my pedometer shows I walked a total of 4.93 miles today.

Margaret, I'm drinking 2 quarts of Crystal Light a day. I got the bright idea to drink it with a straw because otherwise, I have a red stain on my lips from the red color.

Starryeyed-- I live in Michigan. We did get frost the other morning, but we have had beautiful weather the past two days. It is supposed to be 69 degrees tomorrow. I love that kind of weather!!

Thanks for your support! This forum really, really helps!!!

Anne

Hi Anne

I am so pleased that the exercise is really building up for you. It is what I said about your stamina improving. It seems to just suddenly happen and you can do things that you would have absolutely sworn was too much just a day or two earlier.

And you see what I mean about getting a buzz when you see your daily stepcount and mileage on the pedometer. You think - can I really have done all that???

I like to keep a spreadsheet where I keep a record of everything for every day. I weigh myself and keep a note of steps, miles, main meals and everything. I find it so useful.

It also encourages me to try to do a similar amount of walking the next day. I like to do that because I really want to try and maximise weight loss and I do have to keep especially focused.

Some days I absolutely feel like I am bursting with energy. I have days when I feel like a human jumping bean. And I sometimes feel so much younger it is silly.

I am sure that you will find the same thing.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Just got back from the gym and I walked 1.5 miles. Took me 34 min. I was going to shoot for the 2 miles again, but I had drank too much water beforehand and didn't want to stop in the middle of a walk to go to the bathroom. I went as far as I could till it got really uncomfortable. I had to stop at the store real quick and get home in time to take my daughter to school. I feel like a taxi service...lol. Pick her up at high school, bring her home. Take her to cosmetology school and then bring her home. Most of my day is spent running back and forth.

Ok, I will write later---gotta go. Just wanted to get my time and distance wrote down so I don't forget it.

Hi Anne

Well done for doing another 1.5 miles. That is more than you did yesterday morning.

Drinking so much plays havoc with the bladders of quite a few people on this forum. In the morning I do not drink anything before going out (I still went to the public toilet while out and about this morning). It is one reason I stick to doing blocks most afternoons - I can pop into the house and go to the toilet each time that I pass the house.

Just think - all your running back and forth after your daughter will burn a few calories and add some steps too.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hi Anne.

I see you're doing really great on your exercises. Keep it up! I know you'll be able to get to 2 miles again. Just take your time and aim for as much as you can.

This site has been down most of the day.

I went to the gym tonight and I walked 2 miles !! It took me 46 min. I almost stopped at 1.5, but figured I was so close, I might as well go to 2. I was sweating quite a bit and I normally *never* sweat. My heart rate only got to 118.

I'm going to stay at 2 miles for awhile. Fourty-five minutes of cardio is pretty good, I think. I gotta remember that I work out twice a day, so all in all, I think I get about one hour and 20 min. of cardio per day. According to my pedometer, I walked 5.52 miles in total today.

Margaret, how long does it take you to walk your miles in the morning?

I'm coming off my period, but for some reason I am so bloated today. I feel like I'm 9 mos. pregnant. I hopped on the scale tonight and it didn't show any weight loss.

My husband left for Canada and won't be back until Friday evening. He called and said he got the Christmas invitation and that we both had 6 weeks to lose weight. He's lost 6 lbs. so far. He only has to lose a total of 15 lbs, and now that's dropped to about 9 lbs. I'm not going unless I lose enough weight to feel comfortable. If I could get rid of this double chin, I'd be happy.

To all who posted in my journal, thanks for the support.
May we all find the motivation to kick this fat in the a$$.

And, I'm outta here!

Hey Anne,

Congrats on the 2 miles... or shall I say 5+ miles? Wahoo! Don't worry about the scale not dropping any today. It could be for a lot of different reasons. Could be because of your period. I'm actually about to start my period, so I've been kinda feeling sleepy today. It sucks, doesn't it?

I have no idea why the site has been down most of the day. I hope it doesn't do it often. Cuz I'm gonna need this a bunch!

Well... Good night.

-Jennifer

Hi Anne

I found the site down for quite a while too.

Well done for getting your 2 miles exercise in - and a 5.52 miles pedometer reading for the day.

You will get results with that kind of effort.

Everyone gets bloated around the time of a period. These things even themselves up in time. When you weigh yourself every day you have to remember to not worry about a slight gain or no loss at that time - and it is quite normal to wiggle about a little - it isnt always straight down. You have to look at a time span of say a week and a half to two weeks. Sometimes the food that you eat can cause a temporary blip too. See my entries on the "weigh yourself every day" club to see what I mean.

As far as how long it takes me to go on a walk - that varies. It can depend how far I am going. I walk a couple of miles at a quicker speed than 6 or 7. Probably nearly 3 mph. I am sure that I am never faster than that. Sometimes slower. Also - I do a very similar route every day and see people when out and about. I quite often stop for a chat. I really dont worry about the speed aspect at all. There are some very fit people that I sometimes see and if I end up walking along with one of them - I really feel like I have tired my legs out trying to keep to their pace.

As far as your double chin goes - are you moisturising your face? If not - then start morning and night. I started a couple of months ago. Include rubbing your chin from your neck up to your chin. I had a terrible double chin and I noticed that it had disappeared about 3 weeks ago. At that time I was heavier than you are now.

I think that the massage aspect encouraged weight loss to come from that area. It was brilliant when I noticed that my double chin had gone - because I noticed it 4 days before my school reunion - how is that for timing?

I am sure that if you continue being good with your exercise and being good with your food - you will get the weight loss that you want in time for the Christmas do. I find that weighing myself every day gives me early warning of plateaus. This means that I have managed to keep a pretty good rate of weight loss going. Weighing every day does not suit everyone (because as stated earlier you have to accept that it is not always going downwards - there is a skill to interpreting what you see) but it certainly suits me.

I hope that you have a good Thursday.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Just got back from the gym and I walked 1.5 miles in 34 min. There was a girl there working on one machine and man, she was kicking butt! Of course, she was about 5'8 and skinny. I felt a bit inadequate next to her for about 1 minute. I remembered where I was last week, and where I am this week, and I can't let that bother me. I'm not jealous of thin people, but I am jealous of how hard she hit that machine. Of course, there is a chance that she was once in my position.

Margaret--- I usually don't moisturize my face. I use soap and water mainly. I sometimes have a problem with the ingredients in creams, moisturizers, etc. In the past I have used things that I must be sensitive to, and I get an allergic reaction.

On a side note---- I have absolutely NO stretch marks at all. I find that unbelievable, but I'm happy about it. Maybe my weight just crept up on me so slowly that my skin stretched to accomodate it?

I also have dyshidrosis, mainly on my feet. It has been in remission for a few months, but last night I noticed the blisters and the itching. If you don't know what dyshidrosis is---omg it's the worst itch EVER! My feet got so bad last year I could barely walk. I hope it doesn't go into a full blown outbreak. That could hinder my walking. I do use raw shea butter on my feet, but it's so oily, I dont' think I'd want to use it on my face. Hmmmm????

Ok, I guess I'd better get going now. Ma's taxi service is on duty in a few min.

Margaret, forreal and Ttmazyck---I'll stop in your journals later today. Thanks for stopping by mine

Anne

Hi Anne

Well done for getting another walking session in. Don't try and compare yourself to others. It is not worth it. There is always someone out there better / thinner .... whatever. Just aim to be the best that you can be in your life today.

Try and look into a hypoallergenic cream - because I swear that it sorted out my double chin. I think that it was mainly the action of the massage - so any type of up/down rubbing of neck to chin may have a similar effect. It may be worth using that butter that you mention before your shower or bath.

As far as stretch marks go you have certainly been lucky there - however - remember that I have lived my life a lot bigger than you. I think that skin generally will stretch if it is not too big a jump or too sudden. I put on all my weight very suddenly. One year I went from being slim to very obese. I was also pretty ill too. It was all quite traumatic. The worst thing is that it was over 20 years before I was able to do anything about it.

Remember - all your running about after your children are all useful steps for your project.

Take care
Love
Margaret

I just got back from the gym. I had planned on walking my usual 2 miles at night, but tonight I only made it to 1.5 miles. I hate whining, but look out---here comes some whining...lol My shins were hurting really bad tonight for some reason. My dyshidrosis is starting to act up and I have blisters all over my feet. The ones on my heels aren't too bad, but the ones that are underneath my toes are really hurting. The skin running from under my big toe to my little end toe is dry, cracked, raw, and blistered. These aren't from walking. I'm going to have to use lots of shea butter and hope they go away soon. The problem with dysidrosis is that it comes in cycles, one right after the other, so there is rarely time inbetween.

I did weigh myself earlier today and the scale said 193.4. I hope it says that in the morning too.

I have got to start eating better. It was abt. 6 pm when I realized I hadn't eaten all day. I went to the grocery store and got lots of stuff to make sandwiches and salads. I love both. I had a sandwich tonight for dinner with lots of veggies on it.

My daughter ended up not getting her teeth pulled today. When we got to her dentist, she said she'd prefer they be pulled by an oral surgeon. So, we'll have to schedule that soon.

Hubby will be home tomorrow and I've got to pick up my house a bit.

I forgot to put my pedometer on today. Will have to remember it tomorrow.

Anne
ps. I will try to find some hypoallergenic moisturizer.
