Unhappy Is the scale playing tricks on me?

Hello everyone...I'm pleased to say I've been a leech on this site for quite some time...and its the primary source of my motivation ( that, and not being able to walk up the escalator stairs without dying).

So I'll get straight to the point....I'm 19, 5'7.....I started out at 263 ish when I came home for the summer..started taking pointers from the "big losers" on this site...and without effort really..or thinking I would loose anything...I got down to 257....now..I've been getting different calculations for my BMR...but I'll go with the lowest which is 1900...I eat between 1200 - 1500 calories a day....depending on what feels right to me or whats available...in the past week I've burned 500 calories on the bike in the morning, 320( average) throughout the week day ( on my calorie counter), and 500 in the evening...total..1320..plus calories left from the BMR..so thats between 1720 - 2020 a day.

NOW! I got on the scale YESTERDAY! in the evening...it said 253...I'm thinking okay thats pretty good...I get on it this morning ( because thats really my scheduled weigh in)..I got on it several times and it says 249.60...is this a mistake?? Not true? How much do I really weigh..should I just stick with the 253?

In your leeching too bad you didnt read the threads about how your weight varies during the day.

Pick ONE TIME a day to weigh - if you feel youmust weigh every day... and wear exactly the same thing or nothing - wheny ou do weigh - Most people find that first thing in the am - before stepping in the shower after using the toilet, naked, gives them the lowest weight and that's what they measure against...

Weighing multiple times a day is extraodinarily unhelpful long term....\

and your bmr is also your resting rate== that is the calories you need were you to never get out of bed... you need to add on calories for activity.

Do spend some time reading the stickied threads -especially in on topic, nutrition, and exercise.

What Mal says is true - you need to stick to the same part of the day, that way you are checking how much lost rather than a specific weight.

I recently got myself new scales because I thought my old ones were playing up, and I don't like them because they make me 4lbs heavier, so I use them as a way of callibrating my old scales. What I'm actually checking is how many lbs lost in total, so I figure that my new scales would have started me at 4lbs heavier and my total weight lost is still the same.

As for me, I weigh myself naked, first thing in the morning, after I've had a bowel movement. Sometimes it can take a glass of water to get that movement, but it can make a 1/2lb difference

Thats actually what I'm doing with this scale....So i guess two scales can't be wrong..because I have another scale thats a little off (by 4lbs too), so we got this slightly expensive one...and I get on that one..then I get on the other one just to be sure...it really all does add up now that I think about it. Just kinda confusing to me..the whole weight movement...I wanna say I'm 249.60...but if weighed at any given time I'd be 252 - 253. I guess I'll just go with what Mal said...I'll stick to weighing myself only in the morning and document that weight.

and really...you should only weigh yourself once a week. Your weight fluctuates so much day to day even.

anybody whos losing or has lost weight knows that weighing yourself once a week is an acquired thing...when you..or ( me and my mom) are started out...you need some type of proof beyond motivation that you really are doing something..denting your life in some way...all of that hard work has to have something to show...the proof is in the scale in the beginning I think..my mom was 44lbs heavier in febuary/march...so now she dosent weigh herself everyday because she knows its working..I guess the weigh-in today lets me know that I am losing and I'll try to stay away from the scale
