I wasn't sure if I wanted to start a diary or not, but I suppose it wouldnt hurt my efforts.

At this point in my life I am more concerned with fitness goals rather than loosing weight. Although I am not down to the weight I want to be, I've learned that with each fitness goal I set weight loss follows.

I have several goals in mind, that include running a half-marathon, being able to keep up with my honey on a bike trail (we mtn bike all the time and I always die), being able to do a real push-up like the pros, and those are the only ones that come to mind right now.

Years ago when I began loosing weight I wanted to be called "skinny," I recently achieved that and let me tell you it was weird... My goal now is to be considered "athletic," although I don't play a particular sport I consider myself athletic because of all the working out I do.... and Love to do.

My current workouts include mostly working out in front of my TV. As a poor college student I don't have the funds to pay for a membership monthly and honestly I feel I can get the same quailty workout without having to move around a huge gym and deal with the social gym rats... I am in love with all of the FIRM workouts using the fanny lifter... its done amazing things for me, My honey and I spend alot of time outdoors biking and hiking, we also do a circut workout together that we created once or twice a week depending on our schedule. I used to dance but switched to aerobics because its higher intensity and way more fun that a structured dance class... since I live in the southwest salsa dancing is huge and a local studio here offers an aerobics class called salsaerobics... its a blast!! A co-worker introduced me and I was hooked! So that's pretty much it! I get up every morning and get my cardio in, anywhere from 20 mins to 90 mins depending on time and then in the evenings I either strength train or hit a trail.... or even the tennis courts...

So yeah, sorry I was so long winded... hopefully that gives you all an idea of what my goals are and how I hope to acheive them!

Cheers,
MissDFITT

I'm with you on the push-ups. My upper body is so weak I have to do them on my knees. It's sad.

It's awesome that you and your guy go mountain biking! Sometimes I go hiking, but the trail is like 20 minutes away, so I don't make it out there often.

The half marathon will be a great accomplishment. My brother is training for one right now, too, and I can't believe the runs he goes on. 10 miles? Yikes. I struggle with 3. haha

Your fitness goals are awesome, and it gives me hope that I, an incoming college freshman, can stay fit with a little effort!

Yeah, I do my push ups on my knees too, but I feel like I am getting stronger... so hopefully one day...

Its nice having someone there who will push me when we are biking its great motivation to get up some of those hills.

I started running over a year ago and thought that I would be ready to run long distances in no time, but the harsh reality was that running is waaaaay harder than it looks. After one month of struggling with only 2 miles I gave up for a while... my body hated me because it wasnt used to it... but I am back on the horse now.

Thanks for your kind words! Good luck with your first semester!

Cheers,
MissDIFTT

I forgot to mention my eating habits... oops!

Well I am a nurtition major, but I still have 2 years left in my degree.... And I have learned a general overview of the macro and micro-nurtients your body needs as well as how your body metabolizes foods... but I'm still waiting to really get my hands dirty into the dos and donts....

As for me, when I began my initial battle I used diet pills and starved myself... it worked of course, but my all means not healthy... as I matured I began to look at foods differently and then when I hired a trainer he had me eating veggies, chicken, and brown rice... for weeks... granted I lost weight, but talk about boring!! No fruit no dairy no red meat... I stuck to it but was glad to start "eating normal" again.... And then my Mom acutally discovered weight-watchers and all of our dieting was over....

I myself am a huge Fan of weight watchers because they basically calorie count for you by assigning foods a point value and each person get x amount of points based on their weight. It also encourages the good ole food pyramid.... suggesting to eat foods from each category... And that is what I stick to. I eat tons of fruits and veggies, and then also incorporate lean meats, whole grains, and low fat dairy products in through out the day. I drink tons of water and on the rare ocasion will have a diet soda.... I am a salty not a sweety so when I crave I usually have myself a piece of cheese or slice of turkey to get me through...

My current challenge is learning to cook meatless meals. My honey doesnt think its possible to have an all veggie meal that doesnt consist of pasta.... And he is pickey, me I love most veggies and am willing to try new things... so thats my biggest issue as far as cooking goes...

Anyway, hopefully that gives you all an idea of what I am eating! Nutrition is essential to a healthy being!

I hope everyone had a nice 4th of July and a great start to the weekend.

Yesterday Stephen (my honey) and I went for a quick 11 mile bike ride. We, well I was hoping to do more, but I came off my bike within the first mile. I was drafting off Stephen in the middle of changing gears and didnt happen to notice there was debris blocking the path, I swerved but still caught my left pedal and was thrown off... Now granted I've come off my bike many times before, but I landed hard enough to knock the wind outta me.... Needless to say it kinda threw me off for the rest of our ride... We still had fun...

Today my back and right knee are pretty stiff from the fall but I'm gonna stretch really good and hopefully get a few miles in on the tredmill.....

Thats all for now!

So apparently I fell harder than I thought, I can barely straighten my right leg. My knee is tight around the back of it. I stretched pretty good but wanted to give it some rest before going for a run...

I plan to get a good stretch in today and if anything maybe do some walking hills on the mill just to get some kind of cardio in.

Yesterday I feel like I ate way way too much and way to late into the evening... I've found its harder to keep on track on the weekends in general... plus its a holiday weekend and the BBQ was at our house so we had all the leftovers.... But I've learned to just throw things away or try to pass them on to someone else so that the temptation is not there.... but its still difficult... as yesterday goes to show.

But I'm taking it one day at a time!

I was able to get some time in on the mill yesterday, I did a slow jog for about 20 mins and stretched afterward. My injuries from falling off my bike are healed, I think stretching really did the trick.

I awoke early this morning and got a FIRM workout in. And Stephen and I hope to go for a run this evening. He and I have a big desk calendar that we like to keep track of our activity on and we usually write down our monthly goals at the top. It makes us accountable for something.

Its been a busy beginning of the month and I didnt have a chance to set my goals until yesterday and here goes:

July Goals
Run 8+ miles per week
360+ mins of cardio per week
Concentrate on legs and ab work
Get back on track with eating clean (this weekend was a total bust)
And in doing all this I hope to loose 5lbs, which is a stretch seeing how I lost 5lbs last month and I typically only loose 1-3lbs, but we will see what happens!

Oh and I had Stephen measure me yesterday, I was ehh okay with them I know where I need help...

Bust: 33 in
Waist: 26 1/2 in
Bicep avg: 11 3/4 in
Hips (or the biggest part of my butt/hip area): 45 1/4 in
Thigh avg: 25 1/2 in
Calve avg: 16 in

These were all taken at the larges part of each area. My bust is pretty much as small as its gonna get and my waist I could loose a few more inches, but its almost at its smallest too... as for my lower half you can see its needs help. My body is weird though because when I do loose weight it comes off my top half first seemingly... However my lower half has been getting stronger and looks better....

That's all for now!

Stephen and I are going to Cap Cod in August and I am hoping to be confident on the beach.... again we will see how that goes!

Hi MIssDFITT. If you girls want to get better at pushups you should try this:
one hundred push ups

If you can do 1, you can do 100. Do the program in secret and then break it out on the hubbies. That should get quite a reaction.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes. I am thinking of trying it with burpees instead of pushups.

So yesterday was a great turn-around day after the holiday weekend. I was able to get all my points in (weight watchers) as well as 60 mins of cardio.

Stephen and I went for a 2 mile run last night, it was the first time he and I had ever done this together. I've gone by myself and did okay... but having him next to me was great! He is a runner so I dont think he got as much from it as I did, but it was great motivation for me. The second mile was all uphill and then our street is a killer hill and he ran in front which pushed me to not stop... I think I would have stopped had he not been in front of me. So with that my pre-training for a half marathon has officially kicked off!

Tonight is circut night which I am looking forward to. I always enjoy working out with my honey... we make a good team! :-)

Anyway, thats all for now!

Thanks for posting in my diary. We seem to have some things in common.

I'm on weight watchers as well, although trying to do the core plan because I can't seem to track my points at work. I work at Google and the food is free and flowing all day long...18 restaurants, every kind of food you can imagine. Everyday is a struggle to reach for the lean meats, fruits, veggies, and whole grain products and avoid all the "other" stuff. LOL It's a battle I fight every day, all day...lol But the great thing is that they do really have AWESOME healthy choices...abundance of organic veggies and fish.

I'm down nearly 17lbs on weight watchers...it does really work if you incorporate it into your lifestyle and work on it every day. This is my 4th or 5th time doing it. haha I started in college several years ago, lost some weight, but if you don't stick w/it (or any diet regime) you know how the weight loves to revisit.

Good luck to you on your journey to do a 1/2 marathon. I did my first 1/2 marathon last October. I only trained half ass for about 3 months before the race and boy did I suffer miserably. I had only trained up to 8 miles and though I could "wing" the last 5. Bad thinking on my part. Anywho, I kept at it and ran my 2nd 1/2 marathon in March 2008. It was WAY easier!! I have my 3rd 1/2 this Sunday and a 4th on Oct 5th. Then I do my first full marathon on Oct 19th.

I used to hate running...it was difficult and it hurt. I asked myself, "why am I doing this?" Then slowly over time it got easier and easier. Now I've been running for nearly a year and have come a long way.

Running is great, you only need a good pair of shoes and some proper clothing. Good luck to you on your running journey and watch out...it gets addicting!! Check out the runner's world website if you haven't done so already. It's free and you can get a running training program that will help prepare you for distance running.

Thanks LoveyLadyHumps for visting my dairy too!

I love weight watchers because it calorie counts for me... but like you I have done it on and off over the years. I honestly don't know how much weight I have lost from doing it, but I know my 5lb loss from last month was for sure because of it.

I hope to be able to train long enough that I feel comfy running a long distance... right now running just a few miles kills me. But like you mentioned I have printed many different training programs from Runner's World for ideas of how to train properly. And my BF tells me constantly that its a slow process at first and my body will attest to that!

Thanks again for visiting! I will keep you updated on my progress! And good luck with your halfer this weekend!

Cheers,
MissDFITT

Hey

Thanks for stopping by my diary. Sounds like you've got some great workouts going on with your honey. It must be nice to have a constant workout partner and get that motivation. I'm trying to get back into running myself. I used to run a lot more than I do now, and I'm forced to run indoors nowadays because my allergies have gotten too bad outside, at least at my old running spot. I actually like to run outside more than I do on a treadmill....

Hope to keep seeing you around

-Sam

So this evening has been a pretty big bust as far as food goes. I came home from work pretty tired and flopped on the couch... well apparently I dozed for a bit... Stephen was in the office snacking on chips and me in my dozing stages got very hungry from hearing the chip bag ruffling.... Needless to say I got up and proceeded to eat 2 servings of wheat thins along with a serving of fat free cream cheese! At least I was watching servings so I knew how many points to assign... it ended up being worth 11 points! Ugh! I usually stray away from things that are over 4 pts...

Something I have learned in the past year living with Stephen, he has really bad snacking habits and its been destructive to me more than once... I just have to be better about keeping myself in check... But I was like starving when I woke up! So all I can do is move on... On this program I get 35 "flex" points each week for moments like this... I'm just mad that its so early in the week... but usually I only use maybe 8-10 flex points...

Anywho, at least I did much better with dinner.. I made chicken in red sauce with pasta... I didnt have any pasta, I made some steamed broccoli for me on the side and just had some chicken with a serving of sauce... turned out to be an 8 pt dinner. I was tempted to take a pic of my plate and Stephen's... his was a bowl mounted with pasta and chicken and sauce... and my little plate had a tiny bit of chicken and tons of green stuff! It was for sure a picture moment.

Now just letting our food settle before we head out for our evening jog... its getting late though and we are total early birds... we are usually in bed by 9:30 if not sooner.... So we will see how it goes... I might be on my own this evening. It was supposed to be circuit night but things don't always go as planned... we were both pretty beat when we got home.... But again we will see what happens!

That's all for now...
