100 pounds in 1 year

I am going to lose 100 pounds in one year. I've decided to start on my daughters birthday August 7, 2008.

This is for her, as much as it is for me.

In summary: here is my currents and my goals:

I am starting my journey at 287 pounds at 41 years old. I am 6'1" tall. My waist is 49".

Current stats:
BMI=37.9 kg/m2
Body fat=28.4%
Basic metabolic rate=2517 kilocalories/day

My target for August 7th 2009 is going to be:
187 pounds at 42 years old..I suppose I can keep my current 6'1" height....lol

Target waist to be 33"
Target BMI=24.7
Target Body Fat=12.4
Target Basic metaboilc rate=1885 kilocalories/day

I will be making entries here on my progress and hurtles. I plan on making at least a couple progress updates per week, and noting any new things I discover (beyond seeing my own toes), and any pitfalls or challenges I havent expected.

I am also very VERY open to advise and a cheering section to keep me motivated

I am a bit nervouse about this...I have announced it to my friends and family...so Im stuct to the plan now......I have to do it, I need to do it, I WANT to do it!!

I want to look good in the mirror again, I want to play with my daughter without having to constantly rest, I want to feel good when I wake up in the morning!

I officially start Thursday August 7th.....so I have a few days to mentally prepare, and to get the junk food splurges out of my system. hehe.

Wish me luck!! I will need it. I dont want to let anyone down on this, so all the support I can get, I will REALLY APPRECIATE !!!

are you planning on a plan that's one of deprivtion that you'd have to get splurges out of your system now? depriving yourself is a sure fire way to not have the long term results you want...

While we're advocates of the "no crappy food" diet plan around here... into each life a little 'junk' in the way of pizza, nachos and ice cream do fall - just figure out how to plan for it in your day.

What plan of attack are you taking for this journey? food wise and exercise wise?

Much success and have fun while you're here...

Glad you have decided to make changes to be healthier and lose some weight. 2 lbs a week is an attainable goal, but remember, we all have times when we do everything right and still don't lose. Your going to have to remember the while you are losing fat you may be gaining muscle, and that sometimes scews those numbers.
So, whats your action plan? Just eating healthier and being active? Counting calories? Folowing a "meal plan", surgery? There are lots of people here that have taken many different paths to reach their goals, as I'm sure you've discovered whilst exploring the forum. And there is lots of support to be had. Good luck with your endevors and hope to see you around the forum more.

No, I am not going that route again. It never works.

Thats why I am setting a goal for one year.

I have a pretty cool excel spreadsheet compiled from bits Ive found on the internet.

I am still in the planning stage for the excersise routine. I plan on an hour of walking ( I have a nice school track just three blocks away from the house, and a lot of mp3 audio books, and I get up at 4:30am so the walking plan is set). I also just purchased a nice elliptical machine for cardio building (right in the living room in front of the TV so I dont get bored and quit). I also am bringing the weight bench into the house for strength training days.

I dont want to really get a gym membership, but will if I have to....I have everything I need for exersise here..I even have a really nice mountain bike and roller blades.

I just need to set up the workout weekly routines.

I am planning on 5-6 smaller meals a day, with one day a week for rewards if I did good during the week ( like pizza sundays since football is starting today) (( GO VIKINGS !!! ))

I want to attach a link tothe excel spreadsheets I have built/found.....It has alot of cool stuff....weight, food, calorie, blood pressure, planning, etc. I have also put a strength training sheet....but I havent had 15 posts on the forum yet......I'll get them to you all here as soon as I blabber a bit on some posts...lol

All I need now is a full weekly/monthly excersise schedule and hopefully I can trach energy expenditures as well.

Anyone know of a spreadsheet for keeping track if excersise??

anyway, Im in it for the long haul. I need to get back into the shape I was 10-15 years ago.

in foresight...the coffee, and video games cutbacks are going to be the hardest at first...lol. I sit on my butt alot now playing World of Warcraft (GEEK ALERT!!!!))........but I have plans for that too.....I have a desk that you can stand up at that I am going to replace my old desk with......so at least I wont be on my butt...lol.

so in summary, Im not going to cut out the bad stuff....Im just planning on phasing it out/down over the course of the year.

The record keeping will help show the progress.

Im pretty excited about this now.

To be perfectly honest, Its not the weight that I really are about, its the size.

I plan on gaining quite a bit of mass again, so I am prepared for gain at times. I am not just tracking the weight, I am also going to record sizes and body fat percentages....Thats where I hope to see the most results.

I am just focused on loosing a whole lotta fat!

Here are the spreadsheets I have for now. I have put a lot of work into getting the 100 pounds in 1 year ready......It has a lot of cool stuff. (They are Office 2007 Excel files).

4shared.com]4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download 100 pounds in 1 year.xlsm - online file sharing and storage - download 100 pounds in 1 year.xlsm

4shared.com]4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download Strength Training Checklist.xlsx - online file sharing and storage - download Strength Training Checklist.xlsx

I just need a chart for cardio and excersise tracking....with times, maybe calorie estimates...

any ideas??

since you like charts etc - check out fitday.com for tracking your calories in and out and exercise ones - they also do really cool reports on what weight was lost when and how many calories burned vs eaten etc

hehe.

It's not that I necessarily LIKE charts...I just want all the tools I can get to hold myself accountable for my plans. I dont want any opportunity to 'fudge' any actions, or lie to myself.

The stats will also be great for future reference to actually see how much I have lost.

and the photos I take, will be visual reference to the loss or gain....hopefully no gain! ack!

I hope I can do it....I CAN do it! I WILL DO IT !!!!

dont let me fall.

Read up on motivation tricks! I just bought the Biggest Loser weight loss plan which is not the plan I am following but it is so nice for reading their stories and advice. I think there might be a book about just that without the plan lol. But read around this forum and I like sparkpeople.com as well for gearing me up. Visuals around the house help too. Just keep them in mind when you feel weak Have a good/healthy day today!

Hi Artmonster,

I'm 47, started at 280 and hope to lose a hundred lbs or so... Glad to meet you!

I'm not one to offer whole lots of advice, having struggled with my weight for 40 of my 47 years. But one thing that I am personally working on is trying to work the changes to my diet and activity level into a redefined sense of self, rather than a temporary forced-march on a time schedule. If it takes me a year great, but if it takes 2 or 5 it is still better than not doing it, right?

So my advice is to concentrate on finding a way you can eat for the rest of your life and an activity level that fits into your life. The numbers and charts, lists and programs are great at the beginning, to get you motivated and focused. But to sustain the weight loss you need a strategy that you can practice every day for the rest of your life. Might as well start practising that!

Good luck with the kickoff!

David

You sound like my kind of person. I LOVE charts, graphs, lists...all those things. They really give you a "view" of what you are working toward. I wish success with your goals.

OK....the year starts officially in two days.

I have two posts coming today. This first one is the inspiration, and preparations I have made for the fat 'exorcism'.

First my main inspiration: Maiah. She turns four Thursday. I thought I had a good life, until I had a daughter four years ago......I didnt know what true joy was back then.....now I do. She came into my life for a reason, and for that I am truly blessed.

This next year is for you Punkin Pie.

I have purged and restocked the kitchen. I gave ten bags of unhealthy food I had in the house away, to get the temptation out of the house. I then shopped for foods that are going to help me beat the demon Fatty fatty poo.

I also posted the bigass couch I had in my living room on Craigs list, and it is now gone as well......in its place the weight bench, the eliptical machine, and a brand new heavy bag (for the frustration release...... )

I am telling everyone I know what I am doing......That way I cant back out of this 'exorcism' without being a wussy.

I have the data recording stuff all in place for weight, calorie, blood pressure, measurement tracking, etc....so I can see the progress in numbers.

I am getting together my initial exercise schedules.

............

I'm a little nervous about failing myself.........

*deep breath.

I can do this.

Ive been in shape before.....I can get back there.

The second post today is the shocker.

I actually was shocked when I took these pics.....I've been in denial too long......I knew I looked bad....but didnt realize the urgency until I saw these.....

I might need to bring in another priest for this exorcism.........

Anyway...squint if your squeemish.

I need to look at this every day and shout "I'm fat and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!!!"

the cats think I'm crazy now.......
