Rep Power: 0 | | | ~*.:: Ben's Journal ::.*~ Welcome to my journal. I will be using this to discuss, and track my progress. I have one master goal, and that is to be as healthy, and as fit as I can be. I hope to lose most of my fat by 15/16. I am 13 at the moment, and yes, I know. I'm young. Probably one of the youngest on this site. I have been thinking about actually losing weight for 2 years now, and I thought, well, I better do it now. Unfortunately, I'm self conscious. I don't care about what people think, but I have to look good for me, and if I don't, I feel bad. I know this journey will be especially hard, because my body is not used to not having a vast amount of fat. I have been overweight since I was about 3. I remember weighing myself when I was 5, and I think I was about 103lbs. Jeeze, talk about having a fatass. I do, kind of, blame my parents for my early-childhood obesity. However, I blame myself for being obese at my age. I can't rely on my parents anymore. Although, it's not that hard. I'm very independent. I used to be very social, and love to be around a lot of people, but that's faded away due to me being more self aware every day. I enjoy my privacy, yet I have none. I have a huge fear of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and I know from experience how bad it is. My mom, and my dad got it when they where around 45. I'm just going to stop myself right there. I just noticed that I'm sounding like a robot, lol. Anyways, a little more about me... I like technology. I love personalized things, like iPods, Cell phones, etc. Anyways, that's enough about me. I have read so many stickies on this site, I think I'm going to cry. Although, however, I think I'm ready to start this thing. Let me start off with my current stats. Week 1 Measurements

Rep Power: 19 | | | Welcome Ben I just read your first entry in your diary and it's a real pleasure to welcome you to this site. I'm truly impressed that you are taking care of your health, despite your parents' difficulty in this regard. The fact you already know we only have control over ourselves, shows your maturity.
What kind of supports do you have for your weight loss journey? A good doctor or high school nutritionist can help you make a healthy food plan for your current weight. Have you talked to your parents about your plan? Will you be learning to prepare food or have you been doing that already? Weight Loss Confidential: How Teens Lose Weight and Keep It Off -- and What They Wish Parents Knew by Anne Fletcher is a paperback that costs ten bucks on amazon.com for a used copy. She interviewed 104 teens who lost weight and how they did it. Could be cool.
Thanks for sharing your diary and I know you are going to do great. |

I do tend to be mature then alot of the other kids in my school... sometimes. ANYWAYS. As for support, not ALOT, but enough for me. I think my parents are kind of getting it, but my moms ignorance is getting in the way. I do get some support from my brothers, and I would never go to my nurse for support. I probably know more about treating a wound then her. All in all, I think I'm good with the support. I just need to find some money for some more dumbbells and maybe a used treadmill. Anyways, as always, support/info is always welcome, and thanks for your time. |

Welcome to the site, I am new myself. I just want to say how great it is that you are taking your health into your own hands at such a young age. I think that really shows a lot of maturity. I wish you all the best and I know that you will be able to reach all of your health and fitness goals!

Just wanted to say, congrats on taking these steps. I too was very self-aware at your age and eager to diet/lose weight, but my mom was also ignorant (not to mention obese herself) and would only suggest me fad diets (Grapfruit diet, cottage cheese diet, you name it, I tried it at 13). Doing these diets completely screwed up my body and i'm JUST NOW (at 20.5 years old) able to eat new foods without having an adverse reaction. I'm so glad you took it upon yourself to educate and read the stickies, so you know the healthy way to lose weight. If you haven't already, you should check out the "before, after and inbetween" section of this forum. There are tons of guys that have lost similar amounts of weight, and you might find it very inspirational!
Good luck, we'll be checking up on you often!!

Rep Power: 0 | | | Thanks Sara. Atleast your mom would suggest something, lol. I remember asking her to buy me a scale, because I wanted to start tracking my progress. Her response was "You don't need one. Start riding your bike *hic*". She is too, obese. Anyways, as always, your support is very much needed and always welcome. |

Rep Power: 0 | | Happy to report that my actual weight is 226lbs.
I will change that, and re-do my body fat calculator. Probably means more, though. Ohwell. Still, you gotta love being off by 6lbs. I'll post my next entry tonight. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Entry #2 Hey. I actually didn't eat enough today. Around 1000-1200 calories. Didn't get much in. I was trying to stay away from the sugary cereals in the morning, and fortunately, did. I had a glass of milk and some cheese. (I didn't have much time to eat at all...) For lunch, I packed myself something healthy and didn't have time to eat barely any of it! I got in like half a container of yogurt, maybe a fourth of another cheese string, and one bit of my turkey sandwich... I hate my school. And for supper..I can't say I did good..at all. Scrambled eggs with alot of cheese and some ham... And toast..lol. In the end though, I only ended up eating 1000-1200 calories. As for exercise..Meh. I suspect to catch up because I don't have school tomorrow. Yay for veterans day. I'm going to try and improve my diet, but we don't have any healthy things to eat really at the moment. I'll probably go get some more next time my parents go shopping. Anyways, 'till next time..
Remember, all support/motivation/info is always appreciated.
Good night. |

Rep Power: 0 | | Entry #3 Today..wasn't the best day. I got maybe 1 1/2 miles in, and ate terrible for the most part. Around 1000-1200 calories (because I forgot to eat supper)
For breakfast, I had 1 and 1/2 cups (205 calories). Actually, looking back...isn't THAT much.. And then..for lunch..I had subway..Which I "used" to think would be nice and healthy, lol. actually, no. It came out to be like, what, 650 calories. I thought maybe if I had a footlong, I wouldn't be hungry until supper, and I wouldn't eat much then. Well, half of that was right. I'm still not hungry because I had to footlong, but I still think it wasn't healthy. Ham, turkey, mayonnaise, American bread, and ...yes... Bacon.. I'm still remotely proud of myself though. The old me would've had 2 big bowls of lucky charms with alot of milk. I also had a few snacks which only added up to be about 200-250 calories. I've come up with an equation for weight loss success. I doubt anyone cares, because I know I wouldn't really...But I thought of it...so yeah.
Babysteps + determination - temptation x information^100 = Sucess
Anyways, seeya later. All support/motivation is always welcome. Seeya tomorrow.
(Oh, on another note...I'm not an emote guy myself, but this one was kind of funny to me. = Ben Stiller) |

Thanks for dropping by. Yeah, I'm around quite a bit here I don't really have any support off-line and this place has just been absolutely amazing for me.
I agree with others and think it's totally amazing that you're taking your health into consideration at such a young age. Gosh, I wish I had done that. I feel like I wasted all my "young" years being out of shape and unhealthy.
Make sure you're eating enough. Awesome job on packing your own lunch for school I've been doing that and my diet has cleaned up SO much.
Great job on making healthy choices and portion control as well
Love the equation for weight loss. A good diet and exercise are also part of it
Keep up the great work. I can't believe you've already lost 10lbs. Isn't that so motivating?
See ya around Ben |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Thanks! I actually lost 10lbs since I started, but it wasn't that long ago, haha. Today, however, wasn't the best one.
1 1/2 cups of honey nut cheerios w/ skim milk, and for lunch..UGH. Left my packed lunch at home, so I had to go get a school lunch. They have nothing else left except for a cheeseburger...Dang. Just had to eat it..:'
Anyways, supper was the worst. 2 Grilled cheeses, and a 1 cup of lucky charms...AND YES...of course, me being the fatass I am, my dad made his brownie cake..and I'm not a cake guy, but omfg. It's the best. So I just had to have one...Well, I guess it wasn't too big of a piece...But tomorrow, I really gotta go shopping...But we're low on money...
Anyways...I'll do better tomorrow. Didn't get much exercise in either because it was raining all day. Ugh.
Random frustration time.
