scrambledeggs - Do you have a journal? I looked for one but couldn't find anything.

Damn Scales

This weekend was pretty brutal. With the Margarita party Friday, Dinty Moore & red wine late Saturday night, and Pop Tarts opening Sunday morning - it's safe to say I slipped. The good news is that today is the first day of a brand new week!

I hadn't mentioned this in my posts before, but when I went to the gym last week I weighed myself for the first time in awhile. I thought I was 169, really I weighed in at 174. It was one of the only times I've been surprised by a scale. Usually, I prepare for the worst. That was on Thursday.

The plan is to eat right this week, visit the gym, continue to be active around the house and weigh in again later this week. I guess I need to update my ticker. *grumble*

This is the key! You can't change what you did in the past (short of venturing into bulimia... never a good plan), so just start every day anew.

Good luck!

Yes. Yes, you should!

Stasia - Your bulimia quote made me laugh, probably more than it should. I feel a little bad now.

Hot Pocket Mania and Brococheezit!

I started off really well today. Well, kind of well. I had a Ham & Cheese Lean Pocket for breakfast. Nibbled on a few Triscuts as a snack. Had a steamable broccoli & cauliflower for lunch, with the second Lean Pocket a few hours later. That would have been ok (except that maybe multiple processed 'pockets' in the same day isn't exactly nutritional - still I was staying low-calorie). Then I had some Cheez-It's. I didn't think I had that many either but when I checked the back side of the bag, it was close to 400 calories. Yikes! I wanted to go to the gym but we got about 5 inches of snow on the roads this afternoon which made alternate trips pretty impossible. However, I will go in the morning! The weight is coming off slowly at this point, but at least my mind is in the right spot. Just need to practice a little more willpower. Ok - a lot more willpower!

Thanks for all the support so far. It really helps to be able to have some responses to look forward to. That goes to you especially, Stasia!

Well, you're pretty much my BFF on here, haha. I feel a bond since our ages and weights are so close. But that means I'll be all the more pissed if you disappear one day, so don't you dare!

BFF!

Snow Day

I was really excited to hit the gym this morning, but that will be impossible. We got another 8 inches of snow last night, making our total here in beautiful Indianapolis 13 inches. This wouldn't normally sway me - I love fishtailing my car around in the snow! But, only the main streets are plowed through my neighborhood, which means people like me, living off a side street, must jump the nearly 2' wall of snow with our compact cars in order to leave. I am a prisoner!

Time to whip out the workout DVDs! My collection is really very pitiful. I used to have a Denise Austin DVD that was really great, but it ran away several months ago. Probably hiding in some romantic comedy's DVD case - Titanic? So I'm left with two choices. Jeff Costa's Cardio Striptease or Bellydance Basics and Beyond by Jenna. Both are a lot of fun. The striptease always leaves my abs burning, which is a good thing. The bellydance is more of an instructional (I took a bellydancing class for a while, bought this DVD to practice my technique), but it's still a good workout.

So, after my egg, ham & cheese sandwich here - I'll get started!

The Best Damn Skiier On The Mountain

I got a call from Sergey Thursday afternoon, that's my boyfriend, who wanted to take an impromptu ski trip Saturday. I was really reluctant. After all, he's been skiing since he was a kid and adapts very well to sports activities in general, whereas I am naturally UNathletic. I'm not bitter about this, it's just a fact of life. Me + Sports = Uncoordinated Mess. In any case, I agree because this isn't the first time he's asked and he's made it clear that he isn't going unless I go too - yes, I tried the cool girlfriend approach, "You go ahead and go with the guys. You'll have more fun without me!"

So, like a trooper I wake up Saturday morning, 6 A.M., and sleep the 2 hour car ride to the ski lodge. I strap these accident-inviting blades to my feet and looking like a foal trying to stand for the first time, akwardly stilt my way to the smallest hill lift we can find, falling once on the way. The only thing that saved me, I believe, is that I taught myself to ice skate a few winters ago. I don't know if more experienced skiiers feel this way, but shifting your weight on skis feels almost identical to shifting your weight on skates. I had a really good time, making it up to the intermediate slope several times and coming down with some success. One thing is certain, I've never had so much fun falling down!

At one point, Sergey tricked me into coming on a little bit more advanced hill - something about being "impressed by my progress", which he still claims was a genuine compliment but I know better. Well it was too much for me, because I basically tumbled down the whole hill. In fact, it would have been easier if I had just decided to slide down on my butt. My confidence was critically injured at that point, but I limped back over to the intermediate hill and managed to regroup.

I loved it! It was great. I would go skiing again in a second. The only lasting damage is the muscle soreness. I knew I was getting a workout, because I was sweating like pig in all my layers, but I didn't realize until Sunday morning how much torture I had put every muscle in my body through. Neck, arms, butt, legs - CALVES. It's Monday afternoon and I am still tottering around like a grandma. I'd love to go to the gym but I'm not sure I could make it up the stairs to the front door.

My eating habits have been on and off all weekend. It doesn't help that last night was Superbowl Sunday and pizza is mandatory in my household. I should regain momentum as the week progresses.

I haven't done a weigh-in yet. Probably because I wanted to be able to take some more comparison photos and I know that these photos won't show any change. Whatever weight I've lost is minimal. So, I think I'll save the scale for next weekend after my muscles stop protesting and I am able to workout a bit more this week.

Wow! I am also completely uncoordinated, and I would never have the chutzpah to go skiing. Good on you! Sounds like quite a workout too, congrats.

LoL, sounds like the ski trip I took my DH on Although..backwards. I'm the skier...he is NOT!! but he was a cutie trying!! I describe his style of skiing as "pie slicing" he turns both feet inwards and makes a pie shape and then goes down the hill, hehe.
MAN I want to get back on the slopes!! Where did you go?

oh I must say I do give my DH props for even attempting to go skiing w/ me!! The first time he EVER went skiing (in HS) he fell the first time down the mtn. and broke his leg!!! No one ever thought he would get on the slopes again....that crazy thing called love

Yeah, that's the same way our friend kept coming down the hills. Very comical! I was actually able to do the back and forth turns pretty well until I built up too much speed and crashed. We went to Perfect North Slopes (Perfect North Slopes - Ski and Snowboard) here in Indiana. Not exactly the best ski state. I think a lot of the snow was man made because it was very icy.

Regaining Momentum

So I lost a lot of my motivation there for a week or so. I'm starting to do a little bit better. I went to the gym yesterday before work and I plan on going to the gym again tonight. I think one of the biggest problems is that I need to go grocery shopping. My Dad does the majority of the shopping around here and he doesn't take my weight loss struggle into consideration when he's buying king sized Hershey chocolate bars.

Anyway, I am going to focus on willpower this week. What really makes me mad is that it takes MORE effort to eat something than not eat it. I have to go out of my way to go get the junk food. Just be lazy!

I think I'm really feeling the pressure now that I booked airfare to Portland, Oregon to visit my brother and his wife. How do I say this without being mean? I've come to love my sister-in-law, but it was a process. They have two kids now, so there's no going back. But I always wondered what he saw in her. Ok - that's mean. Anyway, I want to show up looking good. I don't want to give her a reason to criticize me in any way. March 15th is my deadline - I'd like to be down to 155 pds. Until then I'll keep posting!

Weigh in this Sunday!

Don't worry about sounding mean. Everyone has those family members/'friends' that you honestly just can't stand. My sister is one of those people. I completely understand what you mean about wanting to look good. Even though my sister is much bigger than I am, I know she'd be critical of my weight if I'd gained.

edit: Oh, and good luck with your weigh-in!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's not that I care what she thinks, particularly. I just want her to be a little, I dunno...envious. Just so I can feel smug about it.

I'm not going to get too excited about the weigh in, considering my lack of enthusiasm this week. But I was thinking about it and I think the jump to 174 might have had to do with water retention during the visit from Aunt Flo, so I think I'll probably drop a little no matter what. Which will be good for my ego and lead to more and more and more weight loss!
