Rep Power: 0 | | | Teen - Tired of Being Anti-Social. Hello, I am from Illinois and I'm 15 years old. I just recently left a school which had 30 students total to a school which has 510 students total. Although nobody has made fun of me because of my obesity, it certainly does make me fear socializing with people because I'm a little afraid that I will get made fun of.
Of course being made fun of is something I'm used to due to my weight, but I usually just make a joke of it and laugh with them. Now it's time that I fix the problem rather than accepting it. It's time I start over! Any encouragement will be greatly appreciated as I have failed before, but do not intend to fail again.
On the date of November 7th, 2009 I begin my journey towards a healthier body with no acceptance for failure. Here we go. |

Rep Power: 5 | | Hey Brent, I gotta say, I relate to your story all too well man. In my school years I just kept to a few close friends, and a few other half-friends. I was scared of getting made fun of, getting rejected etc. I was even in your shoes when someone did make fun I would just laugh along too and sink it down.
I would always say i'd do something like join the football team but it never happened,
But, you are the exact same age I was when I started my weight loss, if not a bit younger. You took a big step to take the challenge on re-shaping yourself, now you just need to keep those reasons in your head. Why you want this. You wanna be healthy, you wanna look great, everytime you get disheartened think of one of the jerks at your school and think "I'll show that jack---"
I missed out on my HS years, being too scared to talk to many people by fear of rejection. But, I guess it also kept me from doing stupid things, lol.
Knowledge is your friend, I still have my old little "Workout routines" I made when I first started, and my goals. Needless to say they were quite laughable now that I look at them. This site has moundfuls of knowledge that can help you shape your nutrition and a little workout plan. I'm sure your school has a gym you could use for access for weightlifting etc. Although if you're the same as I was and too shy, don't "belong" in a gym because of your weight, there's some stuff you can do at home as well, although Winter is approaching and it will be harder.
If you need any advice or to talk or anything feel free to PM me, also; if you don't mind what is your starting weight / height? |

Rep Power: 0 | | Hey, Brent. I feel what you're going through. It is SOOO tough going through school being overweight. I was always the fat kid, though I did start working out when I was 15 and lost about 60 pounds. Then I put it all back on plus some in college. Until you feel better about yourself, you're probably won't be the kind of person you want to be, and that's not all wrapped up just in your weight, but also in the confidence you gain in proving you can do what you set your mind to and the boost of energy and happiness from working out. I don't know how far overweight you are, but for me I fell into that common extremist, addicted, all or nothing mentality that I've now learned is very common. For me at least, that lead to being very strict with myself and then feeling terrible whenever I messed up. And when I would mess up, I'd say, "There goes all my hard work. I know I can't do this," and I'd overeat and binge on junk food and feel depressed.
So I think it's important to embrace failure and accept it. There's actually a really good book I read about making failure part of your daily life, b/c that's how you know you're growing. So allow yourself some mistakes and expect to not be perfect and plan on having some failures and learning from them. Keep us updated.
I'll get off my soapbox now ...
Also, I've made a few friends at work and online, just from my struggles in weight loss and the running program I've started, so it's possible to become more social just by getting into the weight loss/fitness club so to speak.

Rep Power: 0 | | Hi. If I may suggest something, don't make such a big goal. Try say, 5-10 pound increments. It might motivate you when you realize a goal. Secondly, power yoga helps me! It raises your heartrate and over time will increase your balance and self esteem. Also, if you tend to overeat, which I certainly do, talk yourself out of it. Ask yourself if you really want that cookie or if you'd rather realize your goals in life. If all else fails, walk away.
Hope I was of some help! |

Rep Power: 0 | | Hi Brent, I was in your situation at one point. When I was 10 (now 14) I got bullied for 2 years due for me looking different than everyone else and being over weight. Now that I'm in high school I am determined to be and look healthier. I refuse to eat school dinners, the food is distgusting and run 3 miles everyday, It's working at moment xxx http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt...5gl/weight.png
