Don't give the food power by calling it dangerous! You're the one in charge of the food you eat. You know you've got it in you to be smart about what you eat and how much of it you eat. We believe in you! |

Rep Power: 38 | | | I know you're right. That's awesome advice Mal. I went there last year at this time and came back lighter. There are choices I have to make and I will make good ones. |

Rep Power: 38 | | Well...I got my walk in and I think I was good on food. I got Chinese for dinner and I think what I got was healthy, but I'm not sure. I also found out my apartment is going condo very soon. That kind of sucks for me. I am going to consider buying, but this was something I was planning for a couple years down the road--not in a few months. Even if I go ahead and move, there's going to be a lot of work done. I guess I'll live . Any advice in this area is of course appreciated. I've been so good lately and I really want to see some results. Tomorrow I may go to the gym or I may just walk, but somehow not exercising isn't even an option. That's a good thing. |

Rep Power: 38 | | I thought I'd go ahead and post my current workout routine. Its not perfect and I am certainly looking for suggestions. Right now I'm more interested in increasing resistance than increasing time. I have no clue how many calories this is burning at 383, but I think its balanced if a bit short on the weights.
Recumbant Bike 7 minutes at 60-70 watts
Military Press 10 reps at 40
Leg Extension 10 reps at 50 Treadmill 8 minutes 2.7 mph 2.5 grade
Lateral Pull 10 reps at 75
Bicep Curl 10 reps at 50
Seated Row 10 reps at 60
Leg Press 10 reps at 100
Rowing Machine 7 minutes at 81 watts avg.
Tricep Extension 10 reps at 80
Pec Deck 10 reps at 10
Eliptical 7 minutes at 2 resistance, 2 incline 130-140 strides
My plan is to walk Monday, Wednesday, Friday and do this Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. Does this make sense? |

Rep Power: 22 | | | Sounds good to me, Cannon. (But I'm no expert!) I think 3 times a week is plenty, since you're walking in between. That'll give your muscles and joints a little rest. |

Rep Power: 41 | | How many sets are you doing of each weight exercise ? are you able to get some more compound weight exercises in there? |

Rep Power: 38 | | I don't really have access to compound weight exercise equipment. They do have barbells and some metal bars, but no free weights, its all machines. I've been doing one set of 10, but I definitely could handle a second set of each I think. Thanks for stopping by you two |

Rep Power: 22 | | I do most of my weights on machines as well. My physiotherapist said that was best because it's easier to maintain form, but some people disagree. |

Rep Power: 41 | | the benefit of free weights over machines is that free weights work your stabilizer muscles not just the primary muscle.
Are you able to squat ? you do not need to add weight straight away but squatting works a lot of different muscles at once and can be done without putting excessive presure on the knees http://www.exrx.net/Kinesiology/Squats.html |

Rep Power: 38 | | Thanks for the linkTrusylver, I'm going to investigate squats. They do have those weight bars there which I may be able to use.
LOL thanks Curvie. I think one of the things that got frustrating for me as I hit the 500 pound mark, is all through my life I was a jock--an overweight jock, but a jock nonetheless. I remember my first day of gym class when I transferred high schools my sophomore year. I got picked last for softball because I was fat. 3 years later at graduation people were still talking about the ball I hit over the train tracks that day. I played on a 7th and 8th grade soccer team when I was in 6th grade and started. I played baseball and was a pretty good pitcher. I prided myself on the fact that I was fat, but I was in better shape than the supposedly "in shape" people I was with. In the Spring of 2006 I struggled to walk a mile and I reallized I was no longer the in shape fat guy, I was now just the fat guy. One of the biggest issues I have had with working out is I've been so far gone that I've had to do a very low impact workout. I am looking forward to doing more as I get in better shape. I envy your Cambodian Ground Fighting because I miss my Tae-kwon do. I want to do things like a rec basketball league. Frankly, for the martial arts I probably need to lose about 100 pounds to do it healthily, but for some of the other things I'd like to do I'm not that far off. |

Rep Power: 22 | | You're quite a superstar. I'm proud of you for taking the challenge of re-finding your inner jock You may be frustrated with the low impact exercise now, but soon enough you'll look back and be amazed at how much you've progressed. Hey, you can even do that now! Last spring you were struggling to walk a mile and now you're actually practicing a workout routine at the gym! | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
