I confess to having a rough Saturday in terms of food. I think I'll be paying for it awhile this week, but I am really working on making walking a habit. I was going to blow it off today and somehow at 6:45 I was heading out the door. I felt so good I came inside and sprinted for a minute on the treadmill. I figure by best estimated I burnt 432 calories. I'm not seeing the results on the scale yet and that's because I'm slacking a bit on the diet. I hope that this week I can put diet and exercise together and really make some progress.

Hey I made it through my fifth straight day walking. I saw two things on Penn & Teller last night.

1. My thoughts about BMI were correct. It was created over 150 years ago, not meant to be used this way, and George Clooney is technically obese according to it.

2. A fat person who exercises regularly has a better mortality rate than a normal weight person who doesn't. It does make a huge difference.

Hi, Cannon. I agree completely about BMI. I've dropped it from my list of goals. I'm much more interested in body fat percentage -- I think that's the real gauge of how fit you are.

Absolutely right on the fitness part. It is better to be fat and fit than skinny and unfit. However, all the extra weight can cause a lot of other complications that tend to make life miserable.

Have a great week!

When I was younger I always prided myself on being the in shape fat guy. My friends would need a break long before I would. I wouldn't think anything of taking a 4 mile hike to go someplace at college or in my 20s could throw 200 batting practice fastballs when coaching. Last year I suddenly reallized I wasn't the in shape fat guy--I was the fat guy. I have tried to drop the pounds many times in my life, but that was the first time I ever really felt like I needed to do something and do it soon.

Tomorrow is going to be a real challenge to get the walking in. I have plans tomorrow at 7:30. I have to be at school very early and I have a job interview tomorrow after school. Going to be a challenge.

Good luck on the job interview tomorrow, Cannon. Maybe you can get up an hour earlier and get your walk in then.
