A primary culprit causing shin splints is a sudden increase in distance or intensity of a workout schedule. This increase in muscle work can be associated with inflammation of the lower leg muscles, those muscles used in lifting the foot (the motion during which the foot pivots toward the tibia). Such a situation can be aggravated by a tendency to pronate the foot (roll it excessively inward onto the arch).
Lol well im ready when you are, just give the word but don’t you go saying I had an unfair advantage later on
Not a chance! We'll just meet up in the middle somewhere (maybe I really SHOULD start swimming!

LOL! What are you saying heidi?? Hmmm? I do hope to be back at it by morning - if I wake to pain again, I'll give it one more day of rest, but while not back to normal, it was MUCH better today!

yup you did a doosie.... take it easy.....
Funny, none of the sites I've read listed wine as the number 1 cause of shin splints.
Pitty really that they're not getting the word out
So, I've been nibbling all day and not tracking calories.
This will stop!
Starting tomorrow - I'm back to writing down what I eat.
Kaitie - I did my exercises today - I plan on doing them again Thursday
I’m so glad that you’re resting. Honestly, it’s the best thing you can do for yourself right now.
Have you thought about going to see a physiotherapist?
Hope you're taking care of yourself and those shins girlie!! Don't make me come out to Cali and tie you to a chair...although that would give me an excuse to go to Trader Joe's. I REALLY want some of those banana chips. I googled them and their the rave all over the net it appears. I don't have a Trader Joe's in NC.

No - I don't tend to go to the doctor very often - I think the last time I did was when I was pregnant in '96. I did tell myself that if I didn't see improvement by this weekend, I would go have it Xrayed!

They are better!! I'm not walking on them this morning - I'll do a short 2-3 mile on them tonight while Megan is swimming and see how they are, but as of right now, I can stand on my tip toes, I can stretch and flex my foot and there is very little pain on the surface of the shin when I run my hand over it!! It's definitely better!

Seriously? I hadn't checked the net - and they're Banana Crisps, I don't know if that makes a difference googling I have 15 bags in my cupboard currently

Thanks JB! Yes we ARE! I've been slacking lately on the calorie watching department, and last night I had a run in with a brick of sharp cheddar cheese and some bagels So today, I will definitely keep written track of what I eat!
I'm so glad your shins are feeling better!!! Shin splints hurt really bad and it seems like they've been bothering you for a while!
Thanks HF - yes, they have been bothering me for awhile - The night it happened was Monday 04 Sep, and my walking schedule was:
05 - 3.0 miles
06 - 5.0 miles
07 - 7.0 miles
08 - 5.0 miles
09 - 5.0 miles
10 - 7.84 miles
11 - Rest
12 - Rest
13 - Today - rest again...
So, I haven't exactly given it *a lot* of time to heal
But I'm doing better!
Thanks Patty, and I hope you have a great day too!!

Wow - I didn't realize they created a sensation! They told me at the store that there's going to be problems because the supplier can not keep up with demand, they had no idea the crisps would be such a hit!
well most athletes wont sit still long enough to let it heal. If your walking 3-5-7 miles thats what you are lol. I haven't had them in years. I don't get them much taking the remote from the tv to the chair lol......

Yea, I read that they ship directly from India...somewhere, I don't remember and that's why it takes so long to get them back in stock when they run out.
