Smile Mountainmama's Diary to Great Health

Hello,
I've been a yo-yo over the past 6 years and it is high time I took back control of my life. Food has been my passion since I was a teenager. I am 37 years old and in 2000, I weighed a whopping 195 lbs for my 5'8" frame. Over a 2 year period, I lost 60 lbs and felt great at 135 lbs. Then, I managed to get back up to 160lbs (not too hard to do~why is it sooo easy to gain weight and sooo hard to lose it???), dropped to 150, and am now back to 155 lbs. I am looking forward to having this diary to have some accountability in my weight loss. It's tough to go it alone. As my "name" dictates, I live in the mountains of Colorado. It is really hard in the winter to get out and walk like I do in the summer months. I am planning on watching what I eat and most importantly, listening to my hunger. If my stomach isn't growling, it's NOT time to eat yet. I have a really hard time when the afternoon rolls around, I just WANT to eat, even though I know that I am NOT hungry. And when I am upset, watch out stomach here it comes... Emotional eating has been a pattern for me for a LONG, LONG time... What a crazy cycle. I would like to walk 1 mile a day (or jump on my mini-tramp in foul weather), do 50 sit ups a day, and do my pilates workout video twice a week. Today, I did my sit-ups, walked a mile and I jumped on my mini-tramp... I have listened to my hunger, so it is Day 1 of getting back on track to great health. Dinner is in the oven and my stomach is growling... I can hardly wait until it's on the table... Yummy!

Thumbs up Day 2

Day 2

Good Morning,

I'll be posting 'The day after' since I do all my email, etc, in the mornings. Yesterday was day 2 and it went all right. I ate okay, but man was it hard not to eat yesterday afternoon and evening. It's amazing how we get into a habit and then when we try to break it, you'd think it was "supposed" to BE that way.
On our profiles we listed hobbies and I think it's time I dug them out of the loft. Maybe then, when I FEEL like eating, I can sew, scrapbook, crotchet, anything to keep my hands out of the pantry. Gee, I never realized that when people ask about my hobbies I give them the old, "I like to write, sew and scrapbook," when in all actuality, all I do is eat. No wonder I keep yo-yoing.
Sadly, I'm afraid I have passed on my terrible eating habits to my daughter, too. I told her that I was on this forum and she decided to join as well. We are on this road together. Welcome, luna_fire!
Yesterday I realized that I really need to watch portion control. It's no wonder that I have gained weight when a serving is such-and-such and I eat a double portion. Or 2 plates of dinner, why do you need 2 dinners lady??? Oy, what a crazy thing to do. I realize that I am guilty of gluttony. Sad but true. I have never been one to count calories. I did do the T-Factor diet years ago...gee was that really 14 years ago?...so have counted fat grams. I eat pretty much all organic or as natural as I can get. I think I'll do all right by just cutting out the eating when I'm not hungry and exercising. If the fat doesn't start going away, I'll have to change that thought. Yesterday, I did my sit-ups and walked a mile.
We have a vacation to Florida coming up in March and my goal is to be at my ideal weight by then. I am planning to wear that swimsuit I bought which right now would be pretty ugly with my belly and thighs hanging out...ouch! Counting 2 lbs a week, that is attainable...Here goes...

Breakfast:
Yogurt
Boiled egg

Lunch:
Fish Burger (recipe on forum-really good!)
Stir-fry veggies/potatoes
Cooked pumpkin w/ little butter, maple syrup

Snack:
Apple
Detox Tea

Dinner:
Lasagne
broccoli

PS, I scrapbook too, and yes, it definitely helps to keep your hands and minds busy! I'm also scrapbooking my weightloss journey...you should try it! Check out my sparkpage, my two layouts are in the photo gallery.

I find the lean cuisine meals, etc. are good for determining good portion sizes. Can't say much for taste, etc. But portions are great guides!

Day 3-4

Good Morning,
Sorry I didn't post yesterday. We had a big snowstorm up here and I had to drive to the city which was pretty hectic. So, needless to say, I didn't even get online.

Day 3...
went better than the first two days. I did my sit-ups, pilates work-out and walked a mile. It was a little easier to not eat when I wasn't hungry. It felt reeeaaaly goood to eat a well portioned dinner and then have a snack without feeling any guilt!!! My stomach was thanking me...
B:
1/2 serving Nut & Rice crackers
yogurt w/ blueberries
L:
ALT Sandwich-open faced (avacado, lettuce, tomato)
pecans
D:
Fish burger
Cooked pumpkin w/butter & maple syrup

Day 4...
was a hectic day. I spent a lot of time driving and probably walked about a mile in amongst my shopping. I was still feeling great about how I ate on day 3 and was inspired to keep it up. I'm really looking forward to that swimsuit on our vacation... it's gonna happen!
B:
Boiled egg
Superfood, (green fruit/chlorophyll drink)
L:Went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant
Vegetarian burrito ( I split with my daughter)
chips, pico de gallo
D:
2 Tortilla pizzas (I've got to stay away from wheat...it made me bloated)
S:
Craisins

Today is Day 5 and I'm planning on continuing to listen to my body for food. I don't think I'll go for a walk considering that it is 4 degrees outside. I'll let you know how it goes. I WILL do something, though!

It really feels good to feel hunger throughout the day. I told my daughter that it had been a long time since I had felt hunger except in the mornings. Get up...feel hunger...eat...keep eating until it's time for bed, never experiencing hunger for the rest of the day. Hard to admit, but I know that I'm not the only one, so feel free to expose myself and my eating disorder here. Anyone else feel it's a disorder? I know that anorexia and bulemia are bad and can kill you but so can food addiction. I am convinced that it is a disorder as well and am trying to get to what is behind the reasons for it.

Anyway, enough for now.

BTW, how do you put a link to a sparks page on your signature? (My sparks page is mountainmama68)

Till tomorrow, hanging in there on the way to better health...

Hello! Welcome to the forum! I used to live in Delta, Co. That's where I met my husband and I totally know what you mean about walking in the winter months!! LOL If you dress warm enough it's ok, except for the fact that your face freezes off!! So I guess in house stuff is what you are stuck too! I wish luck!!!!!!!!!

Day 5

Good morning,
Well, day 5...I don't feel very well about yesterday. I started off with a big breakfast which threw me off, I think. It was sooo cold here (I think the high was about 18 degrees) that I didn't get out for a walk. I did 50 sit-ups and jumped on the mini-tramp for about 4 minutes then gave it up because I was out of breath. Maybe it would be easier if I weren't at 9,000 feet. Oh, well...today is a new day. I think it is 20 degrees out now. Maybe I'll bundle up and go for a walk about noon. It was so hard to not eat yesterday afternoon and evening. I did have a snack after dinner and I was really full. Almost uncomfortably so. NOT GOOD...I still didn't get out any scrapbooking or writing or anything, just sat there like a bump on a log in front of the TV struggling in my mind about food. Today is a new month and a new beginning to the rest of my life. Being Friday, I'll be a bit busier preparing for the Sabbath, so maybe it will be easier. I hope so. Well, here's what I ate yesterday.

B:
2 Scrambled eggs
hashbrowns w/onions & peppers
ketchup

L:
Cod loin
pumpkin w/ butter & maple syrup
Nut & Rice Crackers

D:
Polenta w/Italian Bean Sauce

S:
Air-popped Popcorn (I had a whole air popper full, which I know is poor portion control...I'll try to do better next time)
Craisins

I hate counting calories but I think the day's fat count was around 35 which is under my sparkpeople amount...so I guess it wasn't too bad. I felt pretty heavy right after breakfast, though, and for hours afterward, too.

Well, on with the day...
