Ow. Twisting my arm... ok. No worries. Of course, I was looking forward to it, but I'll sacrifice myself. I really can't take the peer pressure...

from The Waste Land

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm' aus Litauen, echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the archduke's,
My cousin's, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow
Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man,
You cannot say, or guess, for you know only
A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water. Only
There is shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

TS Eliot

TomO is on a distinguished road
Love TS Eliot, and especially that one.

Love Dylan Thomas, too. I used to have a vinyl record with him reading his poetry.

That one was always my favourite though I hadn't read it for some time.

Thanks for mentioning Dylan Thomas. I haven't read a lot of his work, but a quick check shows me that I'd like to read more just now.

Yep.

Analogy from last night. Too many analogies in my mind, but, dear reader, I have spared you many and wish to share this one.

I walk with my dog and 2 Poo ch Pouches. Usually 2. Often none are required and I take them home and put them back in my pocket again for next time. Last night I used one quite quickly. And quite near a rubbish bin. Sadly, it turned out to be the only one I was carrying. And the rubbish bin had no new supply. I would need to get more from the dog rubbish bin at the oval, though I would need to remember.

I did not remember, and then coming into the street next to my own, back into the territory where I know virtually all the home owners, the dog struck again, on the much manicured lawn of a woman with whom I am quite friendly.

I walk light. There is the deposit. I am bagless. What will I do? While this is happening, someone else from the same street drives past us with their headlights on. In the dark I don't see who, yet they have seen us and driven on and I have this dilemma to sort.

Would I have done anything differently if they had not driven past?

I do not know for sure. However the temptation to do nothing was pretty great. I had nothing I could use to fix the situation, did I? All I had was my water bottle, which still had it's label on it.

This diary is like my neighbour's headlights.

For Yesterday 11:30 pm, or this morning, whenever that seems to you.

Breakfast ~9:30 2 weetbix, 1C lowfat soy milk. 1/3 C tinned peaches. 1 boiled egg. 1 slice wholemeal toast with minimal margarine and strawberry jam. 1 C coffee with 40 ml Hilo.

Snack 1/8 C coffee with milk. 1 pear.

Lunch 1:00 2 Salada crackers. 100 gms low fat cheese, 1 tomato.

Snack . 6:00 ½ Salada cracker.
7:00 1 carrot. 1 stalk celery. ½ Capsicum, 10 sugar snap peas.
.

Exercise: 8.00 pm. Local walk plus sprints.

Almost the same walk as Monday. Except all the walk to the oval was slow and I did no stretches. They have resurfaced the cricket pitch and I found it’s ok to run from goal to goal now.

I ran the last sprint. It was a definite run. I considered that it might hurt my knees. They didn’t actually hurt while I did it. I thought to myself that they used to hurt but I have survived that they hurt and could fix them again to this stage, if need be, so it was a risk I could take. Also I thought that if they hurt after this I would be sorry I had done it!! Actually as I type, the left one is hurting which hasn't happened for a long time. So I will take some ibuprofen and no, I won’t be trying that again too soon.

I was walking fairly slowly until I got to the oval. I was upset, though really nothing has happened to trigger this. I just think I am at a point in remodelling myself where I have some issues to deal with that upset me. That is, deal with or ignore…

For whatever reason I am more emotional now than I used to be. I actually read something last year about joy belonging to youth and wondered if that might be true. Also I thought I should leave myself open to making it not be true. Since then I found it’s not, even before I started losing weight. However, there is a down side to experiencing the more extreme emotions of youth, and I think it just caught up with me.

Dinner 9:15 100 gm spaghetti sauce made with tinned red salmon, green olives, tomato, spinach and lots of parsley and chives. ½ - ¾ c spaghetti.

Snack 12:00 Handful of almonds, a glass of soy milk. (Not hungry, just pill popping.)

Posting a day behind again.

Breakfast ~9:30 2 weetbix,. 1C lowfat soy milk. 1/3 C tinned peaches. 1 slice wholemeal toast with minimal margarine and strawberry jam. 1 C coffee with 40 ml Hilo.

Lunch 1:00 1 boiled egg.

Snack 7:00 ½ Salada cracker.
.
Exercise 9:08 pm. 1 hour. Local walk plus loop to the top of the hill. 5 km.

I wasn’t going to add the hill because it’s not a lot extra k’s and it was getting late, but it sure is beautiful up there at night. My local park is full of trees, but this hilltop park has only a few. In the day it looks bare but at night it’s just full of sky.

The dog was a bit reluctant to keep up. Everytime I crossed a road to go further from home she would stop and just look at me. She was fine about the same spots once we were headed for home. A fresh bone can weigh heavy on a dog’s mind.

Dinner 10:15 1 small skinless chicken thigh with herbs. (~ 50 gm), 1 carrot, 1 stalk celery, ½ capsicum, handful sugar snap peas, broccoli.
1 small lamb steak (prob 100 gm), 4 grilled mushrooms.

I'm rushing today, so will just post this.

It's already Easter here. I have a little, high quality chocolate egg in the fridge ready for if all the chocolate excess drives me crazy. If so I will time shift the egg eating till all the rest have disappeared. I bothered to buy it for myself because I had planned to, but I'm really not interested. I have developed a bit of a mental distaste for it, and I don't know that I want to mess with that!!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

Lunch 1:00 2 slices of wholemeal bread, ~ 100 gm low fat cottage cheese, 1 box V8 vegetable juice.

Snack 4:00 Pieces of watermelon, rockmelon, plum, strawberry and grapes. 3 macadamia nuts, 1 water cracker with a chunk of double Brie. 1 marinated green olive.

It would have been relatively easy to keep eating! My water bottle helped me feel that it was done with.

Exercise 9:00 pm. Local walk plus loop to the top of the hill. 5 km.

The dog piked. Totally. She did not want to come when I was leaving. My son got her outside with me but as I tried to leave she stayed standing staring again. She’d had a longish walk already with my husband in the morning and as we were sitting out on the patio with guests, she spent all afternoon bouncing around the backyard. So I walked without her, which turned out to be fine.

I had half considered including sprints tonight, but decided against it. Lucky, because there was a couple giggling and lying down on the cricket pitch in the middle of my running lane!

Dinner 10:10 ½-3/4 C spaghetti, with onion, garlic, lean bacon and egg white, olive oil spray. Salad about one cup – mushrooms, broccoli, sugar snap peas, capsicum, celery, balsamic vinegar.

Today I wore a pair of trousers that I haven’t put on for a while. They used to be snug, but now they are so baggy that I pinched the loose fabric on one leg and measured it. It was 6 inches.

Also I wore my hair down, which I haven’t done for a while. I thought I looked ok. I am not over the way the skin has loosened a little on my slimmed down face and neck, but it bothered me less than it has been.

Sorry to hear the dog caved! Seems she knows when she doesn't want to go!

And doesn't it feel good to try on what was once old tight clothes only to find them baggy?! Very Cool - it's visual confirmation of the progress you're making!!

Have a good weekend Felici

Things have quietened down a bit at my house, and now I see how much I've missed as I've rushed my on-line time the last few days. I'm hoping today will be a catch up day here. Tomorrow I am really hoping to do the long walk I wanted.

Thank you.

Great danes are such beautiful dogs. They are really big. Do you have a lot of space where you live?

My dog isn't small but is certainly not in the Great Dane league!

That dog is funny. I have never had a dog that so clearly communicated her own agenda.

I love my clothes getting baggy. I knew the legs of my trousers were loose, but I hadn't actually realized how much extra fabric was there until yesterday. I have been putting off buying more but I can't wait much longer for trousers.
