Exercise 10:15 Walk at the beach with husband and dog. 6.9 km (4.3 miles).
We parked the car at the dog beach and walked along the path at the top of the sand, where everyone else was walking. The day was overcast and the sea was grey. But the sea is always beautiful regardless. There were lots of surfers out, and a couple of surf skis. It wasn’t crowded but there were lots of bike riders, joggers, walkers, dog walkers, joggers with 3 wheeled prams etc. After 1 km of this my husband wanted to cross the road and head into the sandhills where he could let the dog off the leash.
So we walked in the sandhills. There are paths there too, but not one other person walking them, and no ocean sounds or sights or smells. This is pretty typical of us. I take about 5 times normal to even notice what everyone else is already aware of and then he wants to do something lateral anyway.

Well I’m sure the extra steepness of the hills was one benefit and the stumpy rough barked gum trees growing in the limestone in there brought back pleasant childhood memories for me. We did end up on the highest point around with a stunning view.
Then we walked back along the beach path. There was a little breeze in our faces. It is just so relaxing any time to be near the water, and watch the waves foaming around the rocks and onto the sand. When we got back to the dog beach we walked down and along the beach and over some rocks. There was just one surfer there. The dog bounced around chasing pieces of seaweed and barking and grinning.
One nice thing is that I kept up with my husband the whole way. I did have to jog a couple of times to catch up because my mind wanders and my speed drops and it would never enter his head to vary his pace. He did wave at me to catch up though. After one hill he said “Do you remember that time we walked up Mount Talobrup, in the Stirlings?” I said, “Is that the one where you were about 10 minutes ahead of me the whole way and you kept stopping for a rest but every time I caught up you would start walking again.?” “Yeah.”

We did have the same hill in mind but I don’t know why, because it was pretty much like that for every hill we’ve ever walked up!
I had plans for some stair climbing, which my daughter had suggested we do this afternoon, but it has been pouring down rain making big puddles everywhere. We have had over 1 ½ inches, since lunchtime which is a lot for here.
It isn’t cold yet and it was kind of cosy inside with all that rain out for once – but I will need to get used to feeling like that without the bad food I used to have in winter. I expect if I just ignore the old ideas and keep practicing the new ones the others will fade.
