Rep Power: 16 | | Hi Sleeplessinsc! I just finished reading the last couple pages of your journal and wanted to say I'm glad you're in a better frame of mind and I totally can relate to the feeling you expressed about spending the rest of your life fighting being fat. Yea, it's annoying not being one of those metabolically blessed individuals who seem to lose weight while laying on the couch scarfing potato chips (I know one or two of them myself).
But I can offer you the thought that given time and consisent behavior, it really, really does get easier...in some ways almost automatic...to make the kind of daily choices we have to make to keep our weight from going in the wrong direction. The best example I can give you is that for pretty much most of my life if I wanted some crackers and cream cheese it meant I wanted a whole 8 oz pack of cream cheese and as many crackers as I could eat before the cream cheese ran out . Now when I think "I want some cheese and crackers" it means exactly 1oz of cream cheese and however many crackers happen to make up a serving size. Period. I don't even think about it really, it's like I'm on autopilot counting out the crackers, cutting off the oz of cheese, eat, enjoy and go on with life.
But that simple act took nearly a year of daily practice until it became "natural"....believe me, until then I had at least a bi-weekly meltdown over the whole "lifestyle changing" process. |

Rep Power: 13 | | Thank You CYM...I am very thankfull for the encouraging words and I love to hear from people who are winning this war.I have always been one to not eat all day then have a jumbo burger with fries and a super sized soda! I am having the most trouble just wanting to eat things that are good for me. It seems easier at times to not eat than to eat something "good" But i am getting the hang of it and I only decide I am miserable on occasion the rest of the time I feel great about making the right changes and choices. |

Rep Power: 38 | | I had a huge post written, but I'm glad you're feeling better. You will be fighting being fat the rest of your life and you know what? You are already fighting a ton of battles you don't even think about.
Every time you brush your teeth you're fighting tooth decay.
Every time you wash you hands you're fighting disease.
Every time you put on a sweater or a warm coat you're fighting the elements.
These things don't seem like struggles because you're used to them. Eventually taking care of yourself by eating right and exercising will feel the same way. |

Rep Power: 43 | | Yay for you!! What a great weekend!! How fun and satisfying it must have been to get the plants! That just leaves me so buzzed and relaxed at the same time.
(I actually saw Johnny Cash walk across a street here while I was waiting for a bus many years ago. I thought "That guy's all in black. Just like Johnny Cash. Actually he looks like Johnny Cash. Just like Johnny Cash." And then I found out he was in our town right at that time!! Gorgeous voice. I didn't hear him sing though.) | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
