Thank you for the info...we'll see how it goes. Perhaps after learning some technique with him I can go on to develop my own lifting plan.

Not a fan really. Stuff is expensive and I am not convinced that it is worthwhile in the first place. Are you looking for more specifics or just my feelings on it?

Yea, if you are not used to training in this fashion, soreness is definitely going to happen. Give it a couple of weeks and it should stop.

Good morning.

GNC guy is going to recommend anything. He wants you to buy it, and most of the ones I have encountered our boobs.

Why did your friend like it?

she claimed that it helped her lose weight quicker and that she felt better because of it.

but then again, that could all be a mental thing.

which is why i was asking... because you are so smart!

Hey There
Been busy and haven't been able to read up on your journal. You've been just as busy! I swear, everyday it's like 10 new pages! Just thought I'd stop by to say hi. *waves*

ok, and i know that i have mentioned this before, but i figured i would run by you what a trainer told me yesterday.

i about killed myself running for 20 mins. at a 5.0 yesterday. gasping for air, heart rate at 180, near death! but i really felt like i accomplished something.

but, the trainer guy told me that i would be better off (for weight loss) to keep a steady heart rate of about 160 on the elliptical. i burn lots of calories on the elliptical, but for some reason i just don't feel as good about it. maybe because i don't feel like i accomplished as much, because it doesn't feel as hard for me. i generally do 50 mins. when i do the elliptical, even though the guy recommended 30.

any thoughts? opinions?

thanks, smarty pants!

Yea, I could pull up some studies on it, not that you need that.... but I have seen enough proof that CLA in isolation is not worth the money IMO. Your friend could have been experiencing the placebo effect or, she was actually doing things right, aside from CLA that led to the good results.

I wouldn't worry about the supplement.

I actually think my journal has been quiet as of late, relative to the past. I have been spending a lot of time in other threads.

But everything is good, thanks.

If you are going to run for 20 minutes at such a high level of exertion, I would rather see you do HIIT.

I would ask your trainer why he thinks you would be better off.

And in terms of steady state cardio, I am fine with you going beyond 30 minutes. Once you start going over 60, I think your efforts really become futile.

I am also not a fan of soooo much cardio. Enough to elicit cardiovascular health plus burn a little additional calories to supplement your deficit from food, but no need to do it so much. Especially if you are weight training and doing high intensity anaerobic work.

thanks!

he actually isn't my trainer (can't afford those luxuries! ), but just a random trainer that was there.

i really, really want to try HIIT, but i'm scared of flying off the treadmill! lol! actually i'm worried that i'm not in good enough shape for it yet. i guess i just have to figure out an HIIT program that is doable for me. i can always try it outstide, but i just have to find something that i can do. i know it's going to be hard, and i am ok with that... i actually like the challenge!

stupid question of the day... what's a high intensity anaerobic workout?

OK, well then don't do HIIT and rather do some form of IT, gradually building up to HIIT. I am not a fan of running for a prolonged period of time at an intensity that dictates a HR of 180 bpm. How old are you?

anaerobic work is simply work that needs energy at a rate too fast for that of what oxygen can supply. Basically, it is exercise that uses the other energy pathways aside from oxygen. Sprinting is a perfect example.
