Hi Steve,
Just wanted to drop in and say I am finally seeing some results due to watching what I eat! I have lost 4 pounds in a week, which I am very happy about. Thanks for opening up my eyes!
Ya gotta watch what you eat in order to lose weight, can't just exercise! LOL
Congrats!! If there is anything else I can do... I'll be here.
Very informative posts Steve! I especially liked the links to the various exercises.
I used to weight train 5-6 days a week, and then all of a sudden I didn't want to do it anymore. I'm currently doing martial arts 4-5 days a week (probably will keep it to 4 days a week), and I'm planning on incorporating some strength training, probably two days a week. You seem to focus on freeweights and compound exercises which I like as well.
What I was thinking of doing was 2 full body workouts per week, with one complete rest day a week.
I'd probably do something like deadlifts (conventional), squats, bench press, bent rows and a shoulder press, and then vary it up a little. I'll be in the 6-10 rep range.
What are your thoughts on doing deadlifts and squats in the same workout?

I like the way you think!
Deads and squats in the same workout, uhhggg! IMO, only do it if you need to. I am ok with fullbody workouts twice per week. Maybe one of the days do full regular squats and something like Romanian Deadlifts (if you need clarification, let me know) and the second day do Conventional Deads with Leg Presses or Front Squats.
So the idea would be something like heavy squat oriented one day coupled with lighter ham and glute. The next day would be heavy ham and glute coupled with light squat.

Burpies, now there is a move I have not done in quite some time. I think I was scarred permanently from the good old days when Lacrosse was a way of life for me. Burpies were a daily ritual.
That's a great suggestion - thanks! I don't currently go to a gym so I make due with my barbells, dumbells, squat rack, bench and dip station. I think I'll try the full squat/Romanians and then DL with front squat...that could work well....
Hey - isn't the Romanian deadlift a stiff-legged deadlift?
....for a while when I was varying my routines, I did legs and back workouts twice a week. One workout I'd do DL then squats, then the next time I'd switch. It was a killer...
Well M...if you mean the ones that I get after going for beer and wings...YES!!! LOL ....(burp)...excuse me....
