sunburns/sun poisoning and skin cancer are all very real things and preventable

You're 100% right--my late grandma had bad skin cancer--all over. Had to be burned off with liquid nitrogen--no anesthesia! She always preached the dangers of the sun. I'm putting on some right now for my walk to the beach

Sorry. Spoiled me--the beach was beautiful, and Bella the dog was really cute, hopping around. But she shat on the beach, and I felt bad because I had already used the baggie I bring for another present she left on the street on the way there....

Tell me about it. I was hiking along the bluffs on the beach the other day and saw so much trash! I am going to bring a bag if I go today. I only picked up one thing the other day. It was a pack of cigarettes. I didn't want a kid to get hold of them or something.
Of course, then I had this internal battle:"Should I give them to someone? I would hate to wasting things." Then "Well, I dont want my friends to get lung cancer and I dont support their habit as it is, so that would be hypocritical. Plus they could have been poisoned by some sicko or something".

I ended up throwing them away. I must be insane. Really. I swear those were my thoughts. I could have been thinking about how nice it would have been to dive into that blue blue ocean. But no, I was thinking about kids finding poisoned cigs, and getting sick because they think smoking is cool.
Then I started thinking about our society and how cigs are lethal, yet cool to so many people.

And now this tangent has gone from how I hate litter to yet another thing I dislike about our society. See what happens?

You did the right thing in my book, Britta! *clapping*. I am really lucky--this beach is spotless (aside from Bella's tootsie roll now).

Ours are too for the most part. Tourism really hurts how much envinonmental work the city has as a whole. I dont have time to volunteer anymore, but I will be doing more beach cleanups when I get the chance. You would be suprised at how much work goes into keeping your beaches clean! And usually you dont notice people doing it because it's all done early in the morning to avoid the sun.
