Sometimes I love Biggest Loser....

Hi all,

I have seen some discussion in the past in here about the biggest loser. Some positive some not. But I gotta say, I honestly think it is making a difference for me. Being in China I can get Channel 10 from Australia and I am able to watch their version of Biggest Loser. And whereas I do not hold any misguided hope that I too can lose 9kg(19.8lbs) in a week, I find it interesting and motivating on other levels.

One thing it definitely does is gives me an idea of what I want to look like when I am at my goal. I can relate to a lot of the contestants on the show as far as age and overall weight. Some are bigger, some smaller, but always someone close enough to be my duplicate. This time around is no exception. It is amazing how many people are misguided into thinking that skinnier and skinnier is better. I have had people tell me my healthy weight should be around 175 pounds. Now I know for a fact that at my height of 6" and body shape, and desired muscle mass, 175 pounds would be anorexic at best and horrible to look at, if it were even possible. Then I look at these guys, who have come down to 105Kg(231lbs) and I see the me I want to be. I never want to be skinny and weak looking, I still want to be a big strong man, and maybe 220-230lbs will also be just perfect for me too. But it is genuinely nice to see what different body weights look like on different frames and different people. I find it sometimes a little disturbing to see how skinny those contstants force themselves to get for the finale in order to win the prize, but I guess money is a very strong driving force. My final goal weight at this point is 100kg(220lbs) From there, by working out on a regular basis and continuing my weight and cardio training if I go down a little more, but I am not going to try to force it further than that. 20.8Kg to go. Doesnt seem that bad anymore...

Another reason I like the show is pure motivation. It truly touches me to watch the struggles these people are going through, missing their families, working so hard that every step hurts and learning to live all over again. It is not an easy thing to do, yet it is exactly why we are all here and what we are all trying to do too. Seeing the emotions and watching them grow as people truly touches me and I never feel more like exercising and getting moving. I will often go into a good hard workout right after watching. And I am not ashamed to say I often shed a tear with them because I do know what they are going through and I do feel their pain and their triumphs as if I were there myself. This is not only a big change, it is probably the BIGGEST change any of them or us will ever make. Talk about a life altering experience. And even though the time frame is not realistic for the avergave person, to physically see the changes in their bodies and personalities makes me push that much harder to get there myself.

I know critics for the show will point out that most will require surgery after the show because they are losing weight soooo fast. Also, it would not be safe for the majority of the population to try to lose weight in such a way (since we all dont have paramedics, oxygen tanks and professional trainers kicking around). And it is true that for many out there watching the show, it may boost their hopes temporarily and put unrealistic goals into the minds of the viewers, who when they don't reach them, may give up all together and create yet another stumbling block. Absolutely true and definitely not good.

But as with everything in life, we must take the good with the bad. I have been recording every episode of every Biggest Loser and have even bought and used (very happily) the workout DVD. To me it is a source of perpetual inspiration in a world so filled with negativity. I have had too many friends tell me not to bother working out, or that it is impossible to lose weight and generally just been negative nellies. With so much negative reinforcement out there I think we need to find whatever small sources of inspiration we can (not to mention this great community!) and use it for everything it is worth.

I will never get tired of seeing those biggest losers when they reflect back on their old lives and look at the "before" pictures. They cry, they laugh, they break down and they smile. I can't wait till I am at that stage, though to be honest I am almost there already. Once I do hit my goal I have a plan to share it with the world too. I am going to make a little video for my wesite of me running around topless in the park rolling around screaming, yelling and laughing as hard and loud as I can. Just breaking my plateau this morning for the first time in almost a month almost had me doing it already.

Long story short, life is short and negativity is everywhere. Biggest loser works as a motivational tool for me, so I use it. I hope from the bottom of my heart everyone here reading this looks to find their own motivation and their own way to kick the negative nellies square in the nuts and continue on with their goals. Find you muse or your inspiration and ride it for everything its worth...

Yet another rant from sirant.....

I love seeing the girls that have my body type (hourglass) and seeing how they look once they lose the weight. That is something that really inspires me. And I also love seeing how their faces change cause that is something I look forward to- finding out what my face looks like lol.

I am sooooo impressed!!

I am watching the Aussie version as it is going on now and a couple of the contestants inspire me soo much more than ever before. Specifically Greg and Marty. Both of them have almost identical body shapes as me so it is great to see the changes in them and predict how close that will be to my own success story. Greg especially. When I first saw it this year I said to myself "man, that's me!!!" Though a little bigger to start, height and body shape was a near perfect match. Recently he was outted from the house, but his continued success outside is AMAZING!!! At 105 kilos he looks EXACTLY and to the tee what I want to be. He isn't too skinny at all but looks fit and lean. He can definitely carry 100-105 kilos and look awesome. It give me hope now as I finally slipped below my latest ladmark of 120Kilos. I now sit at 119, so I cant wait to see how I look at 105 too!

Wish me luck!!!! But really, I don't need it anymore!
