haha, TRUTH! See the thing is that im doing what i need to be doing to lose the weight and i am losing the weight. I f i wanna complain about that or anything else i come here.

i totally agree, though, that these people are freaking whiners and that they annoy me because theyve seen the show beore and they do know what theyre getting themselves into. I also agree that a lot of people would kill for that opportunity and keep their mouths shut in the process and just be grateful for what they are getting... however, as far as nbc is concerned they WANT the whiners cause they cause drama... drama = viewers = ratings.

Someday there will be a magic pill.

For now, get used to hearing the moaning and groaning. I agree, it's annoying as hell. Whoever thought exercise would be easy?

actually - i choose to just not watch the show... and go for a walk instead

exercise doesn't have to be hard... I know it's a "work" out but it should be enjoyable and something a person looks forward to... perhaps I have tthe wrong attitude...

the fact that they do make exercise hard would be demoralizing to me - anyhow - it'd be frustrating to be put thru that much torture - I know it's not sexy and sexy is what gets ratings but they could make workouts easier that were less tough on people and still achieved the same results.

I know from my own personal experience that being given a workout routine that was beyond my capabilities only served in making the gym even more intimidating that it already was... I thought I was a pretty stubborn person and oculd do whatever i put my mind to but when the body doesn't cooperate fully - it's demoralizing and for me - just leads to frustration.. I'd be a lousy contestant on the show

I think there is a fine line between pushing too hard and not pushing enough, from the perspective of a trainer or trainee.

Some push too hard. This translates into demoralization, stagnation, injury, etc.

Some push too 'soft.' This translates into stagnation, boredom, inefficient results, lack of muscle, etc.

The secret is finding that middle ground that not only keeps the trainee happy, but also pushes them just enough to lead to consistent improvement on various levels.... not just the scale.

The contestants knew what they were in for when they signed up - this is season 3 after all.

Actually I think that it is Season 4.
No one remembers the 1st season so well but I think it was a guy who won.
Second season was Matt, third Season was Eric.

Yea, but you don't realize what something 'feels' like that you've never experienced.

Mentally they're all for losing weight.

Physically, not so much. At least not to the extent that this show uses. Seeing it on tv is a lot different than experiencing it, and without that experience, there's no way to be prepared.

fair point - even people in the real world are all for losing weight -until it's realized that it actually takes some effort...

eh - if the show works for some people great -

the 'ratings grabbing big losses still bother me because it's just not realistic...

bellryna is right, this is the 4th season.

i agree with steve, i think these peope were all about envisioning themseleves like eric or marty from last season and they believed they were willing to do whatever it takes... but when they got down to business, they realized thats its no freaking joke.

i also agree with steve that people can push themseleves too hard. i was a world ranked rower at one point in my life and i got there by knowing how to hurt myslef. but i pushed to far and rowed on an injury and ended up with a damaged bone that needs to be surgically reconstructed. there is a limit.

It's the similar reaction that I had towardsthe obesity clinic show on TLC -where these people who are beyond morbidly obese and can barely move under their own power but yet still feel the need to "cheat" on their diet program...

What's the old adage -you made your bed - now lie in it... you put yourself into that situation - make the best of it..

That's true but listening to them whine all the time is annoying. It did not surprise me that the red team didn't do as well as the other teams. They never really looked like they were into it. And the Whining!!!
As for the black team I wonder if the ladies will do better being on real equipment.
Personally I think that the asian girl (can't think of her name) on the blue team could have good chance to win. She's the only one it seems who has had to work out at such an intensity before. Being in real boot camp and all.

then why watch the show?

I couldn't watch more than a few minutes of the first episode - then was done with it...

Oh certainly. Don't think I'm arguing for the show. I'm certainly not. If I could change one thing with it, I'd change one hundred.

My point relates more the the psychology of weight loss, especially among very obese people.

Gradual introduction to weight loss methodology is tough enough.

Try having it slapped into your face bootcamp-style. I think it would do a number on anyone's morale and ambition.
