He claims he did it only through
diet and excercise. He went from morbidly obese to being really slim. I was really inspired by him, but it's unbelievable. Can someone really accomplish this?

Yes, just because someone is morbidly obese doesn't mean that surgery is the only option. A dear friend of mine has lost 100 lbs the "hard way" and she's working on losing 100 more. I'm very skeptical when people say they "can't" lose weight.
