I did a post on those berries a week or so ago. They are healthy. The fresh berries have a high amount of anti-oxydants (but isn't very effective against hydroxyl radicals), fiber and fatty acids (Omega 3,6,9). The juice is about middle of the road in anti oxydant properties according to what I've read. Several other commonly available juices do as well or better.
All in all it's a very healthy food, but it's no magic bullet for fat loss, so don't buy into that one. I've heard mixed reports about the energy aspect of the berry, too. Maybe a white can of Rockstar instead? Be advised that the fresh berry loses a good percentage of it's antioxydant properties fairly rapidly after harvest. That is one reason to use a processed form.
On that note, it's definitely buyer beware, as some of the acai berry products actually re reported to contain relatively little of the stuff. Some studies have linked them to positive effects fighting cancer and other diseases, but it doesn't seem to me that you can count on any of that yet if you're in a position to need something like that. More news should be available as more studies are done.
Right now it does seem like acai is the "flavor of the month" as far as trendy new foods go.
Anything with acai berry related to weight loss is a scam.
I have some inside information that there is one guy who is only 20 years old that is spending $20K a day on google adsense and adwords to promote acai berry for weight loss.
I also know google shut down the weight loss category recently for their adsense because these acai berry ads were dominating everything and google was receiving thousands of complaints about this scam. Many legitimate products and websites got caught up in this shutdown and now they are fighting with google to get their websites and ads reinstated.
All the blogs you see where it is from an individual person saying they lost X amount of pounds taking XYZ acai berry supplement are all fake.
Acai berry is a powerful antioxidant and has some great benefits, but achieving miracle weight loss isn't one of them.
I've tried the juice of the berries just to see what it tasted like. Not bad, but I think they're too sweet for me. I can't see them being a weight loss aid.
Good topic! I knew that this was the right forum for me to join when I read through this thread. I've seen so many articles proclaiming the "miracle" weight loss benefits of taking acai. Yes, the berries are good for health, but to claim they're a dieter's total weight loss dream is just plain deceitful.
Acai is only popular as Oprah Winfrey recommended it.
When Oprah recommends things its like a money machine for the product promoters rocketing through the roof.
sorry to get in on the conversation so late, my wife bought some of these pills about a month ago, she took them for a week and stopped, so now I take them (waste not want not), i don't notice any difference in how i feel with them, and if there is any sort of boost to them it's because they have a bit of green tea extract in them (160mg on bottle). Agreed this is a huge scam, diet/excersize is the only healthy way to lose weight, i wish people (my wife included) would stop wasting their money on this crap and realize that becoming healthy takes a lot of work on yourself, both physically and mentally...anyways...rant over
