Kate Winslet looked better when she was heavier

Kate Winslet is one of the best actresses out there, and is beautiful- These days she is TOO thin, but when she was in 'Titanic', she was heavier, and was beautiful. Why does Hollywood demand the most gorgous shapely women lose all their natural curves?

I don't think she's all that much thinner compared to those days; she's older and looks more muscular and athletic, and a bit leaner...but she's not scary skinny. She's still beautiful.

i think she looks good back in her titanic days and now, even though she is a bit thinner. she still has curves and doesn't try to hide that. either way, she's beautiful and isn't obsessed with being too thin, like the rest of hollywood.

I think she is beautiful then and now. She doesn't look that much different to me. I don't think I would describe her as "too thin".

I could give a really, long-winded answer to this (as I have a great dislike for the whole Hollywood "perfection" image) but I will make it short...

Society.

People are sheep and will do whatever society tells them to. People wear the clothes that society tells them to. People drive the cars that society tells them to. People shop at stores that society tells them to. People eat at restaurants that society tells them to. People listen to the music that society tells them to. The list goes on and on and on...

Whatever society deems as "cool", "hip" and "popular", people will like. They won't like it because they really like it, but they will like it because they are sheep and will flock to where they are told.

When cargo shorts first started being worn regularly, people thought they were ridiculous and stupid looking. A few years went by and cargo shorts were on almost every single teenage and college aged male in the country.

Why? Society.

When low-cut jeans first started being worn regularly, people thought they were trampy and slutty. A few years went by and low-cut jeans were on almost every single teenage and college aged female in the country.

Why? Society.

The same thing goes for the image of the human body. Society says that skinny, "perfect" looking women are the most desirable, so people mindlessly agree. That's why Hollywood pushes the skinny, unrealistic image so hard, because they know that people are currently flocking towards it and they just want to make as much money as they possibly can.

Personally, I hate skinny girls. I hate this phrase as well, but I like a girl "with a little meat on her bones". Unfortunately, most people can't think for themselves and refuse to let their own feelings, emotions, wants and desires show to the world, so they just blindfully follow along with what everybody else is telling them to do.

Interesting thread, love it that the initial poster is a guy!

I agree that females look better - healthier and more feminine - with some "meat on their bones." I also agree that society is by and large mindless, allowing Hollywood to dictate what looks good, what's cool, etc. Females end up starving themselves for an unrealistic ideal AND lining the pockets of "the industry" (Hollywood, media, weight loss biz, etc) at the same time by pursuing weird and unhealthy fads. And yes - I, TOO, AM GUILTY!!!

Thanks for causing some introspection. I am happy with my curves!

Cheers
ABBA

I think we're all affected by the "hollywood ideal" whether we like it or not. The funny thing is, I have yet to meet a person who preferred extreme skinnyness to healthy curves. And yet that's what we always see in the media. I like to be optimistic and believe that we will eventually come around again to the days of healthier media role models.

I think for the most part, the guys that are attracted to that Hollywood thin ideal tend to be self obsessed jerks. Not all of them, but quite a few of them. None of my guy friends are attracted to that body type either, but they're all nice guys! :-)

I think she looks fine. A lot more toned, she appears to have a bit more muscle.

I think different people view bodies differently. In some cultures it is actually quite accepted to be thin or slim particularly with Indigenous people. So what are those people supposed to do? Put on weight to fit the stereotype of having "healthy curves".

Who cares what the world wants you to look like. Be the best you can be for your body. Be fit and healthy. If you end up with curves hip hip horray, if you are slim wahooooo. We are all different.

I find thin, cat like body types to be very beautiful if it's natural, but feel sorry for them for having the "only curves are beautiful" thrown at them constantly.

I can't find any pictures of her weight loss or whatever, so I can't really have an opinion on it.

That's a little harsh, don't you think? What if they are naturally very slim?

I don't find really skinny girls to be attractive. In fact, I find them to be the complete opposite of attractive. I don't think that's harsh at all. I'm just not attracted to that sort of thing.

Personally, I don't think that's any different than somebody saying that they don't like guys with a hairy back. That naturally occurs, but it's not harsh to say that hairy backs are unattractive.

apparently, kate had been made to look thinner on a magazine cover using photoshop and she wrote them to protest about it. =) she's happy and proud the way she is! .. I think people should just follow their natural body type/figure. Not saying someone naturally slim should go fatten up but unaturally skinny is scary. bones.. ewww

she's always been confident about her weight and body image in general which I love. everyone critiqued her in titanic for being ''fat'' to me she looked gorgeous, slightly chubby and spot on- because of the body standards of the time represented on the movie.

I think she ''had'' to fit her body size to new movie roles but she is still happy about how she looked and looks. the important part is not getting traumatized and remain healthy!
also I wish I could have those Hollywood trainers and personal chefs. oh man!
