Rep Power: 0 | | I get the water weight, and the "stuffing" strategy for the first week.
however, when your metabolism picks up, it carries a lot of momentum. For me when I started running (again) once my metabolism got goin and I kept running and eating health, the pounds almost MELTED off.
It wasn't sensational, but it was a lot for me. ie: not 20 lbs a week, but 6-7ish on a GOOD week.
ok, a great week! |

Rep Power: 0 | | You also got to realize that all the contestants have nutritionist, diatetica and doctors on hand plus there personal trainers. They are kept on a specific diet tailored to each one of them. Also while they are on the ranch they are free from work, family, daily stress, etc.. They have nothing to stop them from working out and getting in there way. When they go from a sedentary lifestyle to a active one they are gonna drop a lot of weight fast. and Then it gets harder as proven in week 2. From what I have read they do intrese cardio daily and work out at least 6 hours a day, some to choose to do more so ofcourse the weight will come off faster then a normal person. I know if I didn't have to worry about work or school or daily life and I could just workout all the time, I drop weight very fast but that doesn't work in reality. I do beleive it can be damaging to lose weight to quickly but the good thing is there under doctors care. EVEN better is the nutrition and dietetics that help them with there diets. |

Rep Power: 8 | | | I have no idea what the Biggest Losers eat or how they excercise but I know a person can lose like that, I did. When I first started my program I consistantly lost 6-10 lbs a week. It was only when I got within 30 or so lbs of my ideal weight that it slowed up. |

Rep Power: 4 | | | Well, obviously, reality TV isn't so realistic. I worry about the contestants on the show and wonder if one of them is going to pass out or have a heart attack from so much strenuous exercise. Still, the show is still motivating! |

Rep Power: 79 | | i believe they have done before. I dont understand why they get them doing so much running. That much running with so much excess weight cant be good for your body. To much impacting.
Cycling or long bush hikes etc is so much better for you. I would hate to be stuck with shin splits in a competition like that |

| | | I love this show. Very inspiring. The hige weight loss comes from at least 4hrs each day work out in the gym and low calorie diet. BTW anybody have any favorites for the upcoming finale? I want the girl whose mother got sent home last week to win. |

Rep Power: 4 | | Calories and the math confuse me in general. I did a cal calculator and told me to eat about 2,800 a day. but apparently 3500 equals a pound...so how do I lose that if I don't consume that?! i get lost. i like to watch the biggest loser every once awhile but its not that inspiring because they are working out ALL the time. I would lose weight too if I were working out 6 hours a day. but im in REALITY. i have a job, i go to school, and im friggin tired. lol

Rep Power: 0 | | Well what happens is they leave their lives at home and are placed on a ranch where all they have are healthy foods, so they go from eating fat greasy foods to eating extremely clean. Then they work out like it was their jobs and eat no less than 1200 calories a day up to I believe 1700. They also split up their meals to three meals a day and two snacks. Being that everything is low calorie and all healthy it's easy to only eat that many calories a day. NO FAST FOOD OR GREASE, HIGH CALORIE THINGS LIKE BROWNIES OR CHEESES.
SO pretty much, they leave their home eat extremely healthy and are working out about five to six hours a day....
At their extreme weight it is easy to lose a very high amount of weight when you first start out. The smaller you get the harder it is because your not carrying around as much weight, thus your burning less calories. So it's about will power and making yourself eat nothing but the right things and working out whenever you get a chance. It is possible, doesn't mean it's healthy, but they also do a lot of strength trainig which gives you muscle also allowing you to burn more calories because it increases your metabolism...
I'm not a trainier or anything like that, so i'm sure there is more to add, I just can't think of it at the moment.
But if your not extremely obese a number like that will be almost impossible... You have to eat.. and eating five times a day (about every 2-3 hours) even if it's just an apple then you keep your body burning fat because it does not go into starvation mode due to the fact that it knows when it will be getting food and does not have to guess. Our bodies are smart and complicating things... You just have to learn what works for you! |

Thats burning calories. Its called your BMR (basel metabolic Rate iirc). So you can eat say 2000 calories and use 2800 calories just being alive, Then say you did 200 calories burnt with exercise as well which means you are now like this
Used: 3000
-Eaten: 2000
---------------
Total: -1000
So if you are -1000 calories for 3 and a half days, thats -3500 which is your 1lb. So you would potentially loose 1lb in 3.5 days. Clear as mud? good. Other things factor into it but read the stickys under newcommers. Quote:

Doesnt take 6 hours a day however, but 1 is a good start. My day was so busy i had to make that extra hour by getting up an hour early at 5-6am.
Its hard, but you get used to it. |
