Weight Loss Programs

Atkins, Fit for Life, Jenny Craig – there are almost as many weight loss programs as people who want to lose weight! Sharing our experiences here will help us all get a handle on the wealth of information — and misinformation — out there.

Fasting Question

i never new about how bad fasting is, about a week ago i was actually doing it, and it was working but i stopped cause read the concequences..

i was doing it for about 3 weeks, is that enough for me to have already ruined my weight loss? so if from now i continue losing weight the right way will i still suffer the concequences of fasting. i.e. gaining all the weight back.

Well, I don't pretend to be an expert in the subject, but I have been on a supervised fasting program for 12 weeks now. Hopefully my answer will help at least a little.

After a fast you are supposed to eat a fairly light, mild diet for a while so your body can get used to regular food again slowly, which means mostly fruits and veggies. No matter what kind of fast you were on, you can expect to regain anywhere from 5-10 lbs back when you move into maintenance phase (ie back to regular food).

One thing I know for absolutely sure... if you go back to your old eating/exercise habits you will regain the weight and possibly more. This is an absolute definite, and it will happen even faster if you don't refeed yourself properly following the fast. Hopefully you don't regain all your weight back and then some, but that really is up to you and how you plan to follow up your fast. Hope all works out for you and good luck. :-)

hehe, no it means you're doing things correctly for now. Thank your lucky stars, most people gain a little something back right after a fast. You weren't on it for long so that's probably working in your favor. Any fast in my book is a drastic change in diet, but you are looking after yourself and that's really great.

It's only been 3 days, but if you keep eating the recommended calories for your weight you should be able to keep off the pounds you lost. I think the biggest mistake people make with fasts is that they go right back to eating improperly.
