Rep Power: 10 | | Stay far, far away from diet pills! I had an experience with Stacker diet pills before they took the ephedra out. Granted, they made me not want to eat anything, but I was constantly on edge, drastic mood swings, and very shaky.
They increased my heart rate so much, that I eventually ended up in the Emergency Room thinking I was having a heart attack.
I didn't want to tell the doctor that I was taking them, but luckily, my very good friend was with me and opened her mouth and told him.
He told me that the Stackers were one step down from Speed..and were very bad for my heart!!
There's a reason why only ONE diet pill out of THOUSANDS has been approved by the FDA.
Another friend of mine told me about his sister who was addicted to diet pills and ended up having half of her Thyroid removed because they had damaged it so much. So, now she has a huge scar on the side of her neck.
Mal is right...its the diet and exercise that makes you lose weight...the diet pill is a mental thing..and just puts junk in your body that is not healthy. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | One more reason . . . In case all of the very good reasons not to take diet pills already posted don't appeal to your "emotional" or self-image side, one of the side-effects listed for Alli is Anal Leakage. Assuming that the product does what it states (a huge assumption), I'm not sure I'd want to carry around extra panties to lose less than 4 extra pounds. |

Rep Power: 9 | | | When Olestra first came out I was an undergrad and working at a Subway. (I f'ing hated that job for sooo many reasons.) But anyway, when we started selling those Lay's Olestra chips I remember reading that the Olestra could cause anal leakage on the back of the bag. And, well, because I tend to be sort of an asshole, whenever anyone would request them or ask for them, just moments after I'd worked my sandwich artist magic on the person's order, I'd say, "Um, are you sure? They might cause anal leakage. See?" Then I'd point to the warning and offer a friendly smile.
Yeah, I'd certainly rather go for a jog or do some pushups or do JUST ABOUT ANYTHING to avoid anal leakage.

I just don't think that the ingestion of dietary fat directly causes weight gain, (see post on the "I Have to Eat That Much?" thread) so I don't see the benefit of the product, anal leakage aside. It isn't the claim that the product interferes with ingestion of dietary fat -- it's the claim that interfering with digestion of dietary fat will contribute significantly to weight loss with which I take issue. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I've heard alot of stuff about that Alli, and though it is FDA approved.. it seems like a bad way to go. You have to be a certain weight to take it first off and when you do actually start taking it it's like a stomach explosion every time you eat... so basically i wouldn't even bother- but that's just me |

Rep Power: 0 | | I actually take four diet pills everyday and they helped me lose 140 pounds. They are a one-a-day multivitamin, green tea extract pill, fish-oil pill, and a calcium/vitamin D pill. I didn't have any side effects either and no stains on my underwear. |

Rep Power: 45 | | Those are good supplements that you take, and there are obviously those who believe that they help with weight loss (as they very well may), but I think the topic was more around the appetite suppressant/controlled substance/short cut to weight loss like Alli kind of diet pills rather than nutritional support. |

Rep Power: 0 | | Then I'll eliminate the other three pills and say that I truly believe that green tea extract is a "diet" pill. Multiple double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies have shown its' benefits and it worked for me. I would stay away from all other weight loss pills (prescribed or OTC). |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Alli and its' big brother Xenical can help you lose weight if you take them. The only problem is that the side effects are so unbearable that most people are not compliant. |

Rep Power: 14 | | Diet pills are just another way for wealthy companies to get even more out of your pocket. A sensible diet and exercise will fight obesity, and don't let these companies fool you in to thinking that pills are the answer. Just think, if they were that great of a 'miracle' for obesity, wouldn't every doctor recommend it to every obese adult? It would be in the news, considering obesity is one of the many challenges people face. Until then rely on yourself and the support from others without wasting money on pills. |
