Michael Thurmond's 6 Week Body Makeover

Well I did it. I ordered Michael Thurmond's 6 Week Body Makeover last night. Has anyone ever tried it? My husband and I are going to do this together since it seems we are in the same group, therefore we can eat the same foods. Right now I can't exercise but hopefully by the time it comes I will be able to do some of the exercise. It says it is only 18 minutes 2 or 3 times a week which to me isn't much. Any input on this program would be great! In reading the success stories on the website, it seems like it really works, but then again, who knows. I was told that I am considered a "Repeat Offender" when it comes to losing weight. I feel in my heart that losing weight will never happen therefore I go back to my old habits which indeed puts me on the yo-yo dieting. I am determined that I am going to do it this time!

Jenny I hope this works for you, but if you can't, simple walking is the best thing for you, start slow and try to work up to an hour of walking, then as you get in better shape try to get more distance within that hour. I started about a month ago and was terribly out of shape now i walk 4 miles in an hour and once i hit 240lbs i am going to start jogging or running hills. You can do it, you will be amazed once you start and continue for at least a month the progress and how much better you will feel.

My sister n law is on this program and has lost 12 pounds in two weeks. She has really lost more inches than pounds. She's having a little trouble losing her weight on top.

She said the main thing with this program is that you have to be able to add a little here and there for a variation. She had to do the one with the low sodium. She at like rice, and chicken, and ground meat. She would add a spoon of this or that to stuff to keep it from tasting so blah but still was able to lose the weight with adding a few varations on her own.

Good Luck!

This definetely works and shows rapid results I did it last year and lost lose to 24 pounds...in 5 weeks...could not make it to my 6th week as had to go for my gall bladder surgery..

I started this again. This really works but needs a lot of committment to make it happen like any thing else. You need to do a lot of cooking and portioning but it is worth the effort in the end.

Like everything else you need to stick to see the results.

Review from Health Magazine

Thurmond seems to genuinely commiserate with dieters about the pain associated with being overweight. It's too bad his fitness advice lacks credibility. The plan he promotes is just another very-low-calorie diet that will peel off the pounds in the short term but won't do much for the long haul. And to tell the truth, Thurmond's food plans for various body types don't really seem all that much different. In fact, the whole concept of gearing diet to body type seems more gimmicky than scientific. On the exercise front, the jury is still out about whether or not slow long-distance workouts beat out high-intensity pursuits like brisk walking or working out on a stairstepper when it comes to fat burning. More importantly, exercising at a slow pace, as Thurmond recommends, isn't going to give your heart enough of an aerobic workout to keep it healthy. Also, his advice on abdominal breathing is not a proven fat-burner, although it's definitely going to a good strategy for relaxation. The book's 45 recipes, many of which are pretty bland-sounding-like a fruit shake made with lemon juice, sugar substitute, 4 cups ice, water, and 1/2 cup strawberries-should excite those who don't like spending much time in the kitchen.

Does the diet take and keep weight off?
Thurmond says the proof lies in his more than 20 years of work with thousands of clients. No scientific studies support his method, though. Is the diet healthy? Not really. Even though complex carbs are favored, it's a high-protein plan that's super-low in calories. Most days the meals add up to less than the safe level of 1,200 calories, which makes it likely that some nutrients will go missing.

What do the experts say?
"Don't get me started," says registered dietitian Leslie Bonci, director of sports-medicine nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She finds Thurmond's book riddled with all sorts of misinformation, the exercise advice in particular. "To tell people they should never workout on a stairstepper or an elliptical machine because they'll work too hard-well, excuse me, you're supposed to be working hard when you exercise. That's the point."

American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Lona Sandon, assistant professor of nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, admits that there is some sound info about carbs and portion size, but overall gives the diet a thumbs-down. "It will probably be motivating for dieters to see the numbers go down on the scale, but they'll be losing water weight, no fat," Sandon says. "You can't lose body fat this quickly." Plus, she's not convinced that foods can change your metabolism or that different body types require different foods to lose weight: "There's no science to support that."
Who should consider the diet?
Skip it. It's just another very-low-calorie plan that doesn't do anything to ensure long-term weight loss.

Bottom line: Eating smaller, more frequent meals may help control appetite, but this high-protein diet is way too low in calories to be healthy. And according to fitness experts, the exercise advice isn't all that great either.

Talking It DOES work....if you stay focused.

This diet isn't really a diet! It's a "Way"!
Our bodies dont need added salts and sugars, our bodies don't need processed foods and preservatives and our bodies dont need more substance provided than it is capable to process.
Our bodies need "proper fuels" fed to it in a consistent fashion in order to function as a lean mean "I fit in the clothes I wore in High School" machine. Proper fuels are derived from raw, lean foods (vegetables, fruits, lean meats, beans, nuts, grains). We've heard it our entire lifes...The food pyramid was explained to us in elementary school....Michael Thurmond has resurrected the concept and IT WORKS!

Feed your body consistently throughout the day with foods that motivate your metabolism (determined by your body type) and keep moving......

I've been on the diet 7 days and...as he'd stated....have lost a pant size!!! I'm full ALL OF THE TIME, yet eager to eat to continue losing.

It doesn't get any better....it's healthy and it works!!! Well I'm off to the treadmill!

Need to make decisions

Hey,

I'm a to this site and I really need HELP!

I am really nervous about trying this diet plan!
I have tried others and lets just say I was not the winner.

I am sick and tired of being at 250lbs and I need to change.
I don't want to be skinny, I just want to be comfortable with me.

What do you guys think? Lay it on me.....lightly.. :~)

Hello everyone. I'm new here. Since it seems as if I have little or no willpower (control) to choose food options correctly, I am going to start the 6 week makeover tomorrow. I read and re-read his book, shopped for all the foods, herbs and cooked today. Here's hoping I stick to it, and it works for me. I need to lose 30 pounds, and understand I may have to stick with it longer than 6 weeks. Wish me luck!

Smile

My daughter was over 200 lbs. and tried this diet. She has lost 29 lbs. in her 6 weeks, without doing exercises. I am getting ready to start Michael's diet myself. I'll give myself this week to clean out my fridge, and cupboards, and stock up and the foods I'll be allowed for my body type.
I have already bought a mini chopper. The salsas that I'm allowed can't come from a jar (can't have the salt and sugars). and I am looking at the GF grills (my daughter says these cut down prep time on meal cooking.)
She cooked things on the weekend, and stored them, so she didn't have to think so much about "her" foods while cooking for the rest of her family.
I plan on doing some of the exercises while on the diet. I don't want the flabbiness. If I can (no I "will") lose as much as she did I will be thrilled, and she's starting back up when I do so we can support each other.

I would love to try it but unfortunately, my bank account will not allow it. It's just too expensive for me. I would love to track your progress though. Good luck.
