before or after ?

Hello
I am Moroccan, and Islam is our religion.
There is a month called Ramadan --which is starting in three days--, where you have to fast (abstain from eating and drinking) from sunrise to sunset. After the sunset -around 6:30PM-, you have your dinner. Then around midnight, you have another meal.
I am asking what is the best thing to do if I wanna lose weight : Jog and run before eating (that is the sunset), or after eating ?
Thank you,

--Sorry for my bad English.

Jogging before or after meals doesn't really affect the number of calories burnt. As long as you go for the same distance/speed/time, then you burn the same number of calories.

I prefer to jog before meals, for other reasons:

1. It takes me a while to digest food, and I don't like jogging with food in my stomach.

2. I'm training for a long-distance race, and jogging "on empty" trains my body to cope when I'm low on fuel.

But you might find you have more energy to run after eating. If that means you can go faster and for longer, thus burning more calories, then you should totally do it that way instead.

Good luck!

Actually, "moderate" exercise following a meal increase the "thermic affect" of the meal. Meaning it can increase the number of calories burned digesting the meal.

I would suggest you avoid any "non essential" exercise on that day. You will already be in quite a large deficient that day simply from lack of food. Jogging/exercising that day is not needed. Especially, since your only doing it for one day(right?).

My opinion is definitely that running while hungry is better than running while full - but that's still a personal preference and you should do what suits you. Exercise suppresses the appetite so once you warmup you might not feel very hungry. Then again, you might not have any problems with jogging with food in your stomach.

Why not exercise in the middle of the day?

If I exercise in the middle of the day. I will get very thirsty and I can't drink or eat until the sunset. So I think I will just exercise an hour or so before the sunset, come home and take a shower then eat (and drink a lot).
