Hypnosis anyone?

I'm new to this board and am in the process of losing weight by using self hypnosis weight loss CD's from an online site. I notice by searching here, that there are no active threads with hypnosis in the title. Are hypnosis and self-hypnosis programs not considered to be "weight loss programs"? To me, it seems anyway that the discussion of how to change eating habits is pretty valid. I know for me, will power was failing me so trying to force myself to change my eating habits wasn't working.

The CD's are working for me and I'm not having to "work at it". I am down 10 lbs but have a ways to go but so far.... so good. So, if losing weight is all about modifying behavior, why no hypnosis threads?

Thanks for reconfirming the point I made, I also found those threads which is why I indicated no "active" threads. The last post on those threads was Jan 07 and then, there is a total of like 7 posts between the two. Not much representation.

Like I said initially, it seems to me that, given weight gain is more related to behavior than any other single factor, that addressing behavior would be a significant component of any weight loss discussion and, accordingly, methods of modifying our behavior, with hypnosis and self hypnosis being right in the middle of that discussion.

There are certainly enough discussions about the importance on changing how we eat and how we exercise, again both controlled as much by the subconscious as the conscious but the discussion seems to focus almost entirely on the conscious part of our mind.. the "will power" side.. or the "discipline" side.

I have zero will power
I have zero discipline.
I didn't need hypnosis or any tricks of a sort to make me lose weight.
What worked with my mind - was re-education and dispelling all the myths that I had heard for decades that tricks and such were required to lose weight.
All it took was consistency and learning new habits.

I am by far not saying that hypnosis will completly help, by my therapist specializes in hypnosis, and the one time that we did (I do not like it at all) she gave me a thing about not eating at fast food. The only 'fast food' place that i eat at now is Chipotle (which i really don't consider it fast food.) It can help you feel better, but its up to you to make sure that you are better. Find a diet plan, or better yet, a lifestyle change, use the hypnosis to keep you going, and get friends and family to encourage you

I could see hypnosis working for some people. It only works on some peopel though, not everyone is effected. It doesn't make people do anything they don't want to do though.

Any tool that works I say use.

I wouldn't go for hypnosis though, just me personally.

Not sure how you can say you have no discipline when re-educating yourself to the point where you could successfully modify your behavior must have taken a lot of discipline.

regardless, congratulations

I wouldn't entirely agree with you on that one. A skilled hypnotist can, for example, make a person think they see something that doesn't exist or respond in certain ways they might not or might not want to under normal circumstances.

True, it couldn't make a person jump off a bridge or do some other overt act that was contrary to their wishes but.... on the other hand, anyone going to a hypnotherapist or using self-hypnosis CDs, would only be doing so because they wanted to have support in reaching an objective.

That's not to say, everyone using this method will succeed but, I think the failure would be more appropriately directed at the user and not hypnosis.

For example, if a self hypnosis CD instructed the person to listen to it every day for say.. two weeks, and the person only listened to it twice in the first week, was it the CD or the user who didn't "work"?

Just my opinion of course.

Not really...

I'm a hypnotist/mentalist and a psychology student- to be honest, hypnosis comes down to compliance. Of course it's all subjective, and it could 'feel' real to the person being hypnotized, but at the end of the day it's just someone asking someone else to do something.

There's a bit more to it, pacing and leading, appealing to how humans linguistically and psychologically function, but that's primarily how people work when hypnotized. They just fake it due to social pressure, self pressure, self expectations etc.

Hypnosis Week 3

I am currently with the third week of a hypnosis assisted weight loss process. I actually attended a Home Hypnosis Weight Loss party in the Detroit area. It was a great place to site among family and friends who all had a common goal) and learn about nutrition and calorie impact. The event lasted about 90 minutes and had 2 sessions of hypnosis. We all left with a cd to reinforce the suggestions and a workbook.

The results so far, I have last 7 pounds in the three weeks and I have listened to the CD (about 13 minutes) each night. having been on many diets I can say that so far this has been easy. The program does not soley rely on hypnosis as it also encourages good basic nutrition.

I will keep you posted on the results.

Len

Hypnosis?

I've never thought about hypnosis seriously. Does it begin working immediately?

So far so good

Mary,
I can tell you that using hypnosis appears to be of a tremendous help to me. In the class they did two small 10-15 minutes hypnosis sessions that you follow-up with 30 or so days of listening to a CD. You never really go all the way out (falling asleep) and you are aware of everything around you.

I can tell you that after 30 plus years of dieting I would aways give up after 7-10 days because mentally I had given up. I have now finished my third week and have followed the program to the letter. I have not had an ounce of struggle so far.

I am eating less at meals and pretty much have eliminated snacking (again without feeling that I am missing anything).

I will continue to update my progress.

Len

It did for me. The changes are subtle at times but real. I would post the name of the product here but don't want to get in trouble for spamming. Same reason I won't PM you but if you want to PM me, I will give you a link to the product I am using.

(I hope this doesn't violate TOU. If it does, please delete or let me know and I will remove)

With all due respect, I think you lack a true understanding of hypnosis. The fact you call yourself a hypnotist/mentalist sheds some light on your area of interest. Mentalism is a stage show and not a legitimate therapeutic or scientific model or discipline. It's like Kreskin... high quality trickery.

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis has been PROVEN over the last 50 years to be an effective therapeutic model that does, in fact, reprogram the subconscious to change behavior and response. I would be happy to post links here to document is acceptance by the medical community. Here is a quote from the National Women's Health Resource Center
“… hypnosis often is used to modify behavior and overcome phobias and bad habits -- it can help you make changes that you've been unable to make otherwise.”

Let's just look at one link for now. This from (repair this link to read the article) mayoclinicproceedings (dot)com(forward slash)inside.asp?AID=888&UID= from the Mayo Clinic

"Hypnosis became popular as a treatment for medical conditions in the late 1700s when effective pharmaceutical and surgical treatment options were limited. To determine whether hypnosis has a role in contemporary medicine, relevant trials and a few case reports are reviewed. Despite substantial variation in techniques among the numerous reports, patients treated with hypnosis experienced substantial benefits for many different medical conditions. "

I would be inclined to agree that your form of hypnotism may well not be any more valid than your mentalism however entertaining it may be but if a person can undergo surgery under hypnosis by a trained clinical hypnotherapist and not feel pain, then I call that effective.
