Rep Power: 3 | | hey girl! wow, 5-7 pounds a week?? how long did you follow the induction phase?? i think i just want to eat low carb [30-40/day] until i feel like i can control my eating, then i want to switch back to Weight Watchers...because i do love my white rice, bread, etc lol
however...for two days i did 20 carbs/day...so yesterday i wanted to see if eating HIGH carbs would make a difference and let me tell you....i felt like i was going to pass out...i got a sugar rush of a lifetime LOL i just felt so GROSS eating all those sugars!! i like eating low carb [for right now]...i just feel a lot more healthier~~especially since i am eating lean meat and lowfat cheeses...
thanks for the helpful advice =] what program are you doing now?? Quote:

It can DEFINITELY be a lifestyle, but I would never recommend it. Maybe for diabetes and high cholesterol (but only if followed exactly the way it should be).
I LOVED the progress I made with Atkins. I was losing about 5-7 pounds a week until I lost 30 pounds then I went INSANE! haha I got really irritable/moody/depressed all because I couldn't allow myself to eat anything with "too many" carbs. I was in constant fear of eating a sandwich and gaining 10 pounds over night.
Sooo many people succeed with Atkins. My mom did a fantastic job on it, and now she is heavier than she was before the diet. It's just so hard to do forever. Think about it.. forever is a long time.
And carbs aren't our enemy.
As Dr. Atkins says, yeah we shouldn't eat 350 carbs a day, but I don't think we should eliminate food groups either.
I won't be "pushy" or "anti- Atkins" because I did it for a few months and refused to listen to what I was told. Do what feels right and if it works for your lifestyle than that is awesome. If it doesn't, try something different.
That's what I did and now I'm watching calorie intake and being more active. |

thanks for the helpful advice =] what program are you doing now?? | I did the induction for quite some time. Pretty much the entire time I was on Atkins. Although I usually ate 20 carbs/day for 2-3 weeks then went nuts with carbs because I missed them so much..so obviously it wasn't for me even though I loved how fast I lost weight.
As of now, I'm doing the most basic thing there is. Limiting calories and being more active. Eating mostly 1 ingredient foods, lots of fruit and veggies..the occasional 100 calorie snack pack, drinking coffee in the morning and nothing but water throughout the day, which is pretty easy since I'm not a fan of soda or "fruit juice". It's 1000 times easier for me than Atkins was. Of course I won't lose 7 pounds/week but I'm much happier knowing I can lose 2 pounds a week and keep it off forever. |

Rep Power: 4 | | Nope. No fad diets for me. It's funny cause I've always had a problem with my weight but never even considered a "miracle diet". I'd watch what I ate and limited my calorie intake before and lost weight. It just makes sense so I'm not going to resort to a "drink juice for 10 days straight and take diet pills" lifestyle. The only reason I even tried Atkins was because my mom was successful (for a little while) with it. But after trying it, I noticed how difficult it was. It's all about trial and error so ya just have to find what works for you. |

Rep Power: 0 | | I do have to point out that trying to eat low fat on the Atkins is pretty much going against what the diet is about. Eating a good amount of fat in your diet leads to satiety, and once ketosis kicks in, you'll need fat in your diet to keep it going. You have to lose the midset that fat will make you fat on this diet, because you'll be shutting down the metabolic pathway that stores fat. Also, I don't recommend going high protein, because excess protein leads to insulin release. You should poke around lowcarbfriends.com or other specialized boards, I've gotten most of my info from there. I've read the book and there's not much more I learned from it than from being on that message board. Good luck! |

Rep Power: 4 | | I stick to a low carb not no carb....whole naturall, unprocessed foods. I tried the Atkins but I tried to stay on the induction phase because I thought I'd lose more weight. Needless to say it didn't last long since 20 carbs a day is unrealistic. Now all of my carbs come from mostly fuit which I eat at the begining of my day. I'll have a sliced apple, reduced fat string cheese, and a handful of almonds for breakfast.....a cup of strawberries for a snack....a big salad with spinach, mushrooms, peppers, cucumbers, eggs, and grilled chicken is lunch.....more almonds for snacking...dinner is a small steak fillet and a green veggie. I always have string cheese around. I too LOVE cheese. A lot of people I know have had great success on atkins, but just like anything else the weight will come back fast if you go back to old eating habits. The above meal plan is what I stick to Mon-Fri. I'm a little more laid back through the weekend and will have a deli sandwhich made on thin whole wheat flat bread and indulge in the higher carb fruits, such as, pineapple, banana, watermelon and such. On Sundays I'll have WHATEVER I want for lunch so I don't go insane. After years of struggling with my weight I've learned this: Somedays I'm going to fail ...and that's ok....it's not a reason to give up. Just keep going! I wish you luck! |

There are valid points to the Atkins diet ... IF YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE DIET. If you're just guessing what the diet allows and talks about based on the website, then you're not following the diet and you're not getting the additional nutritional information that's included in the book.
No, if you read the book, you'll find out that you're NOT allowed to gorge on high fat foods just because. You'll find out that you still have to be moderate in your choices.
Aside from that, I don't believe in restrictive diets. I believe in eating healthy, balanced meals made of real food. Cutting out whole food groups is unrealistic and unhealthy, IMO. But if you MUST try the diet, please to it properly, by getting the book and reading EVERYTHING that's in it ... not just guessing about what you should be doing based on partial information from the website. | Could you stop yelling at people over not purchasing a book? This is like the 4th thread I've seen you do this in now.. and I've only ready about 10 so far. Your posts are just annoying quite frankly. |

Rep Power: 0 | | I am on atkins and i feel i can do it as a lifestyle change, obviously i will not eat 0 carbs forever but i think i will realize that eating a ton of breadsticks and white pasta for dinner 5 nights a week is not going to make me have a nice body or feel energized. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | wow I have tried Atkins twice and lost about 30lbs both times but I also gained 30 lbs back both times. I found as soon as I introduced carbs I gained the weight back. Losing weight and keeping it off requires a balanced diet (I hate that word) and some exercise (I hate that word to). Even though I hate exercise I know I need to do it.
I found a very good meal planner online that works great for me (I have been reading the rules so I won't post the name yet but you could PM me if you would like to know where to find it). It helps balance your diet including calories, carbs, protein, fats and nutrients.
I know carbs don't agree with me so I leave them low on purpose but I don't eliminate them. I eat the foods I want and I have lost that 30 lbs again but this time I'm not depriving myself like you do on a diet so I can see doing this for the rest of my life.
It has been a while since your first post, how is it going? |

so i am on the atkins diet and it can be a lifestyle change
you inly nearly eliminate all carbs at the induction stage after induction you start to add carbs back in plus you can make low carb breads etc which is a better alternative to store bought breads anyways.y
you know i have read lots of posts about the atkins on here and its the same people all the time that knock it and basically talk bs about it
you need to read the book hun, you have the basic concept of it but it wouldnt hurt to read about it all and read it twice to make sure you understamd it.
It is not a "fad diet" it is a lifestyle change! and you do not eliminate whole food groups
so far the atkins is the only diet that works and suits me and i think i could stick to a "low" carb plan for life
sometimes reading this board gets me so riled up its unbelievable.
The best thing you can do is find a diet that suits you. Atkins suits me perfectly and is working but i cannot tell you if it will work for you same as NOBODY on this board can.
