Weight Loss Programs

Atkins, Fit for Life, Jenny Craig – there are almost as many weight loss programs as people who want to lose weight! Sharing our experiences here will help us all get a handle on the wealth of information — and misinformation — out there.

Lightbulb Yoga the fat away?

I recently read a few articles about Yoga being a pretty good way to get your daily workout. I downloaded a one hour Kundalini Yoga dvd and gave it a shot, it was a lot of breathing techniques and unbearable cross legged sitting. My body isn't used to it but it seems like something fun to pursue.

Has anyone here ever done yoga to lose weight or just burn calories? Are there any yoga recommendations for beginners that are ideal for weight loss? I'm a little clueless when it comes to this subject, so any input is greatly appreciated :P

Thanks,
Sandi

Hot Yoga

I tried a 90 minute hot yoga class recently and, although I enjoyed the heat, I just felt kind of dehydrated and sore - in a bad way - the next day. My neck and lower back are killing me. I guess my experience wasn't good.... but I know a lot of people that love it, and it is all they do for exercise, and they look awesome! So I'm sure it's worth a try. I found this website that compares the calorie-burn of different kinds of yoga to other exercises.

**Note: I have had great results with pilates in the past... if you like mat exercise based on controlled movements, I would recommend some pilates workouts for a couple of weeks. Pilates makes you feel taller and stronger - and not to mention look shapelier - very quickly in comparison to other exercises.

Thank you for that website it pretty much solves my dilema :P
Of course my dinky breating yoga isn't even on there, im going to give Bikram and Vinyasa a shot and see if it'd be fun to squeeze it in maybe 3 or so times a week, it really seems like a good workout.

I've never given Pilates much of a shot, it always seemed like the Madonna workout or pretty much a hollywood thing. I'm going to check with my gym and see if they offer a class to get me started and show me what it's about.

Thank you for the reply

Yoga is what Madonna does! lol

And pilates is nothing fancy or complicated, just strength and flexibility training exercises that utilize your own body weight to build tighter, stronger muscles. Good luck!
