Anyone following Insulin Resistance diet?

Hi!
I was diagnosed with IR few months ago, and I'm dieting for this condition (and for getting healtier and look better, naturally ). I was wondering if anyone here has the same problem and is following a special diet...

Hi, Initial C!

No, Insulin resistance is not yet diabetes, because you can still control sugar, but you need too much insulin to do so. If not controlled (losing weight and with exercise) IR can lead later to diabetes.
What kind of diet are you on?

i'm still a lil confused... because Type 2 diabetes from what was told to me sounds like insulin resistance. cause my body is still making insulin but I've just become resistant to it now. I'm told with exercise, diet and weight loss, I might be able to restore some insulin sensitivity.

as for my diet, I'm now eating maximum 2 starches per meal with a maximum of 8 servings throughout the day. A starch is like rice, bread but also includes potatoes and corn. If I choose to eat a starch, I must eat a protein (ie: meat or meat alternatives). I can only have maximum 3 oz of protein per meal with maximum 9 oz a day. I can't "bank" my protein or my starches either. I can have maybe 1 serving of fruit if my sugar levels aren't very high. And I have unlimited veggies.

On my plate, you'd usually see it 50% with veggies, 25% with starch and 25% with a meat. And as lil fat as possible. And of course, there's milk too. Since I'm a girl, my nutritionist recommended I drink 2 glasses of milk a day. But I can't drink it all in one sitting, it has to be separated (because milk has sugar). It's fairly easy to follow... I can have what I want. I just have to watch my portions.

With this though, I've put myself on a lower-calorie plan to help me lose some weight. And as such, I hope I can cut back or even stop taking the medecine.

Thank you for sharing your diet!
I think that I'd use a similar diet, as I red that the best for IR is to eat proteins every meal with other things...
I'm not always following such diet, sometime I just control calories, but not the food quality; may be this is why I'm losing weight so slowly...

Good luck to you!

Insulin resistance, like anything else is on a continum. To diagnose someone with diabetes you have to have a fasting blood glucose level of 126 mg/dL or higher on 2 occassions. If someone has a fasting blood glucose of 117mg/dL they aren't healthy, they are on the verge of being diagnosed with diabetes!

mermaid- take the diet recommendations to heart! Diabetes is a serious disease and complications of diabetes are nasty: you can get food ulcers, lose feeling in your hands and feet, and loss of vision.
