Weight Loss Programs

Atkins, Fit for Life, Jenny Craig – there are almost as many weight loss programs as people who want to lose weight! Sharing our experiences here will help us all get a handle on the wealth of information — and misinformation — out there.

Strip That Fat

Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone else out there is or has used the Strip That Fat Diet Program. I just purchased it today and will be starting it tomorrow, and had a few questions about it. I haven't heard many others talk about it, and was just wondering if anyone had experienced any success with it. Let me know!

I have difficulty understanding why people who have found their way here go out and pay money for a diet program.

All the information that anyone really needs is available free of charge in the nutrition and exercise sections here. There are too many people packaging up nuggets of weight loss wisdom and selling them to people all too eager to find the magic solution.

I hope that this one works for you. If not - information that really does work is available here at no cost.

Wow, thanks for your kind and warm greeting Omega. I wonder is this how you were welcomed when you were a new member? If you are an example the others on this forum (that you say provides such great diet information) my first impression is to pass and never sign in again. But Fortunately I have a more OPEN MIND then you and choose not to judge the others by your bad manners. I hope that beachgirl will do the same.

MGR will become famous soon enough
I think Omega is trying to say: "hello and welcome to the forums. if you really want to discuss diets or diet programs you may not like it here. Pretty much most of the board (the part I'd listen to especially) advocates a long-term view to healthy eating, combined with both cardio training and resistance training, as the ends to overall health, fitness, and weight loss. If you poke around into the other threads here you will find every single thing you need to lose the weight without spending a penny beyond what you already would on groceries"

I'll add my two cents. Welcome aboard to both of ya. Most programs are - IMHO - a waste of money. The only one I ever liked was the South Beach Diet and that is ONLY because of what it taught me about glucose and insulin response, etcetc. A list of what to eat or a static list of which exercises is too rigid for me and many others.

Instead I have chosen to make a lifestyle change. I am committed to making sure roughly 90 percent of what I eat is no unhealthy, processed crap. I say 90% cause this is forever, I need to stay with it, and I am human and cannot go the rest of my life without tasting pizza.

I am also committed to 5 rotating sessions of exercise a week, with ever progressing metrics in place to ensure I am always increasing workload and thus weight lost and/or muscle gained. This is much cheaper and more effective and healthy long term than anything in a box, so to speak.

Finally, I didn't think Omega came off too rough - just not glad-handed. She is a very active and knowledgeable member here though, and alienating yourself to her certainly won't benefit ya. Finally, please bear in mind how many people come to a forum dedicated to the above principles and then immediately start a thread talking about fad or programs. It can get frustrating to the regulars that nobody reads the stickies or any of the existing threads and we end up having this exact talk in some form over and over and over.

As far as I am concerned that is pleasant enough. I hope that it does work because I will remember her and not give her a jot of help unless I get an apology.

Beachgal hasnt alienated me though....

Here's my take on diet programs:

There are a million different diet/exercise programs. I think that the one that consistently works is eat right and exercise. However, many people have tried this and failed. Why? IT'S HARD! That's it. When you've never eaten right and exercised, it's hard to just automatically flip that switch in your body. What you need to do is find the program that works for you. If that program is adding up points every time you put a morsel of food in your mouth, or if you want to deal out a pack of food cards and that's your allotment or if you want to cut out carbs - or fat - or meat -- or any of the other wide variety of programs out there, well, that's the trick!

I've never heard of the Strip The Fat Diet Program. But if this is what gets you motivated, then do it! You have to remember though, that you whatever you choose to lose the weight, you have to make a permanent decision to change. You can't adopt a program, lose weight and then go back to pizza and burgers. You eventually have to find something that you can do forever. And that USUALLY comes back to making healthy food choices and exercising.

Just my .02.

I will agree with both Omega and Mgr.

I have little patience for people who come here asking for advice and then get pissy when someone gives advice because they didn't use the "tone of voice" or whatever that someone else thinks is appropriate.

You don't want advice, then I suggest you don't post on a message board.
