I personally love slim fast, mostly the chocolate! I don't think its wise to use it as a long term meal replacement though. I mean, you CAN get something more filling for those 200 calories and calories is calories. However, they are great for a quick energy boosting snack after a workout or when your calorie count is kind of low for the day. Theres nothing like a good chocolate slim fast in the afternoon during work, before going home for a good workout!

I've been on the Slim Fast diet for about 2 weeks now, and it seems to be going real well, but I have a question and there really is no easy way to ask it either..lol, but here it goes: Has anyone that has been on it noticed that they are peeing a lot more often? I mean in the morning I go several times and then it seems to diminish as the day goes on. I get up super early in the morning to get my husband and son off to work and school and then I lay down for a little while and I notice I get up at like 8:30 to go pee and then again at like 9:30. I don't know if it's just because in the morning I drink a shake and eat a banana and so it's all mostly liquid, or what the case is?? I don't get up much at night, maybe once, but it seems to be more in the morning. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's a very low calorie diet - too low I'd say as a supplement to a healthy eating plan, it might not be bad, if you can get past the taste of it...

Personally, it's not for me at all - I don't find it satisfying - I need to chew to feel like i've eaten something -and drinking a shake - just doesn't satisfy.

Personally, I think you could make better use of the calories, fat, and protein by eating something more filling. Plus, it doesn't have a lot of fiber.

But using that as an occasional when you are on a time crunch might not be too bad. Just don't do it on a regular basis!

I used to keep cans of it in my car for when I would get hungry and I was out and about. It's great when used as a snack replacement, but I was never satisfied when I used it as a meal replacement.
Still, it was an easy sort of nutrition when I was on the go, and I knew what was in it, so I kept some around for a long time. I found the strawberry and the vanilla to be the only flavors I could stomach for very long, but I was able to drink those pretty much daily for over a year. Eventually I did just get tired of the stuff, though.

To be clear; I'm not a professional, this is just from my personal experience.
I hope all of that helps!

Lets take a look at slim fasts ingredients (which they don't even list on their site mind you)

Nonfat Dry Milk
Cream Cheese Solids
Modified Corn Starch
Maltodextrin
Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed and Soybean Oils (hello trans fat!)
Cocoa (Processed with alkali)
Calcium Caseinate
Propylene Glycol Esters of Fatty Acids
Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate
acetylated Monoglycerides
cellulose
Hydroxypropyl Cellulose
Mono and Diglycerides
Natural and Artificial Flavors

If you can't say it, you shouldn't be eating it. If you don't know what it is, you shouldn't be putting it in your body. Basically what we have here is no real protein, no good complex carbohydrates, BAD fatty acids, and if you have any dairy or lactose issues then watch out.

Slim Fast is not a good product. Whole foods over anything, IF you HAVE to have a on the go shake then get some quality protein powder and make a shake to keep with you and while drinking it eat some fruit. I have on many of occasion when in a bind had an apple and protein shake on the go during a drive or if needing complex carbs I make a shake with some oats in it.

Here's a great article from the NY Times Magazine, about 3 weeks ago, on nutrition. In a nutshell, he advises readers to do exactly what Leigh is advising above -- don't eat anything your grandmother wouldn't recognize as a real food. And the "diet" he recommends is this: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

In other words, get rid of all that chemical junk purveyed to us by "nutritionists". If you just concentrate on natural food, mostly plants, you'll be OK, and you won't have to pay mega dollars for all these diet gimmicks that require an advanced degree in chemistry to analyze.

If you have the time to eat real food in the morning, then do that. If you're always in a rush, a shake is better than skipping breakfast altogether, but try munching on an apple or orange along with it.

The real appeal to the "diet gimmicks" is that the DO help some people. Gimmicks rarely work on their own, but they often provide an assist.

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." This is obviously either someone who thinks he's making a clever joke, or else a straight-up moron flapping his lips. It's not even particularly good advice, ask anyone who loves onion rings, french fries, bread, or partially hydrogenated soybean oil if the foods they love are "healthy". It's a cute saying, but if losing weight was that easy, we wouldn't have to deal with people making jokes like this. Either way, I'm not going to sign up for the New York Times to spam me in order to read the article.

If Slim Fast makes it easier for you to eat right or get past an urge to binge, I honestly can say, "It's better for you than what you were doing before" but I also agree that there are better ways to do the same thing; the problem is, they aren't as easy.

For the OP; Slim Fast is adequate, but there are better ways to do what you seem to be asking. Just make sure to do something that works, and don't be afraid to try better solutions.

I myself would rather have food. Can you see yourself doing this forever? If not, you're going to have to get into the proper eating habits anyway, why not start now?
