Monica | Well if you eat then go to sleep your metabolism slows down and instead of digesting all that food it's turned to fat which probably would make you feel wretched in the morning if your bulkier than when you went to sleep |

Rep Power: 0 | | It definitely works for me . I eat all my meals from 6 am to 6 pm. I eat every 3 hours and any eating after 7 hurts my weight goals . It probably is more for disciplines sake to " close the kitchen " for the night at 7. |

Rep Power: 0 | | I just wanted to add that not eating 3 hours before bed is a myth. It really matters what you eat. You want fat, protein, and fiber. Cottage cheese, eggs or egg whites, and pumpkin seeds would be a great last meal before bed. The egg whites are a perfect protein as is the cottage cheese and since it's casein in nature, it's slow releasing...combine that with the fiber from the pumpkin seeds and you have slow releasing amino acids throughout the night. |

The only thing it changes is your weight in the morning (temporarily) until it evens out, same as anytime you eat |

Rep Power: 0 | | I agree that this is a myth in theory But it still works. This mindless evening eating (munchies) is a bad habit that needs to be broken. I have stopped eating after 6pm and this has greatly helped weight loss. I have lost over 40 pounds this way. I find it helped to brush my teeth and floss when I was done eating for the day. That way even something good for you like celery wasn't tempting me to eat it 'cause I didn't feel like flossing again. Bad habits are hard to break. Especially torturous is watching hubby on the weekend eating peanuts and drinking beer while I stick to sparkling water with lemon. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Thats true because you don't burn as much later at night. Thats why they say breakfast should be your biggest meal. I agree with Monica though I feel the same way if I don't eat as much before I sleep I feel alot better when I wake up! |

Rep Power: 10 | | I think it's fiction.. I probably eat 700-1000 calories right before bed because usually when I wake up, I hit the treadmill for an hour and otherwise I wouldn't have the energy to do that.. and I've lost 2-3 lbs a week for the past month and I have a BF% of about 7 now |

Rep Power: 0 | | | My 2p I first read about this years ago in the book Fit For Life, by H and M Diamond.
They claim that a 24 hour day is divided into 3 eight hour periods. I can't remember exactly, but I think that midnight until 8am is when the body is eliminating toxins, so should not have to divert any extra energy to digestion.
Personally, I think that's a bit far fetched, but who knows? There may be a grain of truth in it.
I certainly feel better if I avoid a heavy meal late in the evening. Munching a piece of cheese is guaranteed to make me wake up feeling bloated and tired.
I believe that the best type of food for a late night snack is fruit. It is easy to digest and low in calories.
Fruit also makes an excellent snack at any time of day, including breakfast, although it should always be eaten BEFORE a meal to allow the meal to be digested properly. The Density Diet - www.ewas.co.uk/diet

Rep Power: 18 | | The second post mentioned something about Oprah, I dont think anyone should be taking diet advice from Oprah. Shes lost and gained more pounds than this forum in total In a recent interview she said she was on the "nuts and water" diet. Oh boy!
Late eating is a myth. When my son was first born and would wake up in the night, I would feed him, then feed myself. Combined with strength training I dropped 12 pounds and 6% bf. |
