Lally and Jellybean...congrats on finding people and sticking with it. I know the support is a MUST and that's why I came to this site. I've now been following my plan for 2 days and so far, so good. I start a new job, and that's where I am a little worried, as we have our meals with the residents (I'm a Child & Youth Worker) and its a family themed work environment so I'll just have to make sure I bring healthy snacks or make healthier choices! But its a worry or concern of mine...
My husband and I talked last night, and he wants to shed some weight too and if we are down in weight by Christmas time, in lieu of gifts for one another, we'll book a romantic getaway in Dominican or Mexico?? hmm...talk about motivators...but anways, Its gonna be a long road, but I can faintly see the light at the end of the tunnel.

So ladies, my question is...do you use the diary on line here? Is there a thread somewhere to discuss more WW ideas? How's the work program work? I wonder if that's something the staff would be interested in at my work?? hmmm

I use the WW online tools to keep track of my points. That way I can do it from work and home. Other sites I like too are FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal they have a good tracking tool. I also go to Dotti's Weight Loss Zone - Restaurants A-Z, Weight Watcher and Nutritional Info it is an awesome site for WW people who eat out so you can prepare ahead.

I find the snacking part to be hard too. At work it is easy just to not snack, it is when I go home that I have to exercise saying no. My husband is a real snacker. Last night I almost got him talked in to joining WW with me.

I don't know about a specific site for WW forum but that would be cool too. I need all the support I can get. I love the forums because they are so motivating. If you find something please let me know.

Good luck to you and just plan ahead during the week for your snacks at work. Don't just go day by day becuase that is when you eat the wrong things. If you plan it out then you are more likely to succeed.

Thanks for the advice, its truly helpful...just one catch we have to prepare and cook the meals and eat the meals with the residents. But yesterday and today I am brining my own 'snack food' (raw veggies, apple, grapes) and opt to drink LOTS and LOTS of water so it fills me up rather then the food prepared. I will bring my own snacks, in fact I pre-bagged them this week.

I am thinking about joining WW online, is it very expensive? I have all the books so I am following core,(again I like the freedom and know Breads/pasta/rice are my downfall and know I always take just a little more then a cup etc...even if measured, I just LOVE them too much. I just need to buy a scale as I am just going by how my clothes fit and the ones I want to get back into fit...I can do them up, but they don't look good..kinda like a sack of potatoes...LOL...but its a start. what are you doing for cardio?

N E WAYS, I have MSN, its my e-mail addy so if you send me yours in a PM I can add you, don't really want my e-mail out there...if you know what I mean??!! Well I gotta run and get ready for work, workin 2-10 tonight...take care, we'll talk soon! Bye

Any weight watchers advice???

Hello, my name is Shannon and I need to lose about 50 pounds. I have heard about weight watchers thru co-workers and have been taught about it. They gave me an extra journal, calculating tools and I purchased some books online. I have tried everything under the sun and I am really hoping this works. I am wondering if anyone has any tips??? I am also wondering if from experience, has anyone lost more weight incorporating the exercise part or is it about the same. Thanks in advance for anyone’s advice.

the biggest factor in losing weight - is using more calories than you consume...

no magic

all you need is a means to keep track of your calories and there are 100s of free calorie counting sites on the web...

adding in exercise allows you to eat a bit more.

read the stickied threads around the forum,y ou'll gain lots of valuable information

Weight Watchers works if you stick to it and follow it. I have done it since January of this year and today I hit my 100 pound weight loss. It does work. You should probably attend a couple meetings though to get you started.

Im a big fan of weight watchers. Like any weightloss program it does take motivation and dedication. Have lost 40+ lbs using the system. I have never gone to a meeting and never will... not my thing! I have done the online system. But now I know all the tools I need to know and do it on my own. As far as exercise goes, I lost most of the weight without much exercise. However, I do highly encourage you to exercise atleast for your overall health. I have since started working out 5-6 days/week, both cardio and strength training.

I have always been weary of points-based systems, especially for the long-term.

Am i wrong or do they basically say you can guzzle as much diet soda as you like, but place a high amount of points on omega rich foods like oily fish and nuts?

the weight watchers points formula (why I have this committed to memory I don't know - I gave up on WW years ago after hating the meetings)

Points = Calories/50 + fats/12 - Fiber (actual or 4 whichever is smaller/5)

Calories seem to matter more than anything else - they don't really put a high value on fiber and based on their processed foods they sell - don't give a lick about sodium...

Weight watchers is more of a diet than a lifestyle change..

Diet Coke:
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for McDonald's beverage: Diet Coke®

Roasted Walnuts (without added salt):
Roasted Walnuts (Unsalted) - Nuts - By the Pound - NutsOnline

Why should a diet coke cost anything to drink with zero calories, and relatively low anything else (aside from ~46mg of caffeine). What argument are you making for making something like roasted walnuts a more important part of your diet, aside from the omega-3 fatty acids which are easily obtained via supplement?

EDIT: Not saying that I'm against the use of nuts, but allowing free-reign of such calorie dense foods just to obtain omega-3 fatty acids is a little silly.

EDIT:EDIT:
heh... I said "I'm not against the use of nuts"... hah...

Red face Motivational tool

My mom recently bought herself and I these wristbands from My Power Pal. I guess you are suppose to use them with the program you are on and it helps you keep motivated. I just started Weight Watchers and these wristband seem like the extra motivation I need to stay focused. I also read things from Dr Oz and the Good Life diet that was seen on Oprah. So I hope with this forum and other ones, these cool wristbands and weight watchers I can loss the weight I need to keep up with the demands of my kids. I just but on my white wristband so if anyone else is using My Power Pal wristbands I would love to talk and maybe keep eachother in check. Thanks.
