Weight Loss Programs

Atkins, Fit for Life, Jenny Craig – there are almost as many weight loss programs as people who want to lose weight! Sharing our experiences here will help us all get a handle on the wealth of information — and misinformation — out there.

Pritikin Diet

Sounds like a good diet for people with heart problems.
A very low-fat, primarily vegetarian diet that is based on whole grains, fruits and vegetables that results in improved cardiovascular health as well as weight loss. Processed foods such as pasta and white bread, animal proteins, eggs and most types of fats are eliminated in favor of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. The revised Pritikin diet encourages the use of "healthy" fats high in omega-3 fatty acids in limited amounts.Has anyone tried that diet out?

Thumbs up I like it

A friend of mine is doing the pritikin diet as it is the most logical one for his health wise (family history of heart problems and his cholesterol is edging up). He has tried Lindora and Atkins....and didn't lose weight except at first. He is not a vegetarian but he likes fruits, veggies. This diet just makes sense for him. How can eating a balanced diet with healthy, low calorie, low fat foods be a bad thing? I like this diet too, I just have problems to fit it to my lifestyle.

Coffee?

I have heard that caffine speeds up the metabolism and decreases appetite and in turn increases weight loss. Does anyone know anything about this? I know substituting coffee for a meal is probably not the healthiest thing but i figure one cup in the morning instead of breakfast and then a well blanced lunch and dinner could be ok... if so whats the best kind of coffee? just plain or latte and cappachinos? i guess whichever has the most caffine... just a thought and just curious...

I actually don't think it is a good idea to replace your breakfast with a cup of coffee. With breakfast you should supply your body with the energy it needs to start the day - there are no nutrients that I know of in coffee.

The worst thing you can do in a weight loss programm is skip meals. It is better for you to eat 4-6 times a day rather than only 3 times a day, so please don't drink the coffee instead of breakfast. From what I heard, however, there is nothing wrong with drinking one to two cups of coffee per day.

The content of caffeine in coffee depends on the roast of the coffee bean. The darker the roast, the higher the caffeine content.

Hope this helps a little

i agree ... you should have a decent supply of carbs to start the day ... if u are looking for something liquid, a glass of OJ is really good ... and, go figure, it's even healthy
