The Special K cereals would be a wonderful think to add to your diet... as long as you eat other "healthy" foods too, that give you all the nutrients you need... The ones that Special K can't give you.

Yes it works for two weeks but after you eat normal you put the weight right back on. Its not along term life change plan.

Eat right, exercise. Thats all you can do. Eating cereal for breakfast, again for lunch and a healthy dinner is not gonna give your body the things it needs, nor is it gonna help you to safely lose weight and keep it off for good.

Stupid little "diets" like that piss me off, and people are so gullable to think it will work. Think about it.. you're having two bowls of sugar filled, non-fibre filled cereal twice a day, and a healthy dinner. Where is the fruit, veggies, lean meats, protein, fibre, etc?

Read peoples diary's on this website and see how they are doing it. Almost all of them are on their way and are doing it right. You can learn a lot from them.. I have.

Good luck x

Those two bowls of cereal are instant fat gain, because they're sugar and you're starving yourself.
Eat properly I've practically been stuffing my face, and I've dropped 1.5lbs in two weeks!
Eating good, workout, watch the scales drop Good luck

It is a quick fix and thats all i used it 2 weeks before my friends wedding it works but then you stop the weight goes back on and there was no point doing it in the first place. 2 weeks where you could of been healthy and kept the weight off.
also gets very boring eating special K for 2 meals a day.

You need to get away from this idea that a diet is a temporary thing. Your diet is what you eat. Call it a lifestyle change if that makes it clearer. Either way, it has to be sustainable. Do you really want to be eating Special K for the rest of your life?

This WAS just for a "quick fix" for something coming up, but its a little rediculious I realize and don't think I'll be doing it now

Special K might be low cal but it's also low in nutrients. Glad most on here don't care for it.

If you eat lots of veggies, which are also low cal, you will feel fuller and get much more nutrition.

I happen to be a fan of the Special K Diet, or at least incorporating it into something more. People here are saying "it's not long term!" Sure it is. Special K with berries? Oh my god that is good. Those strawberries taste like marshmellows when they hydrate in milk. Are you kidding me? I love that stuff.

I see a little wisdom in the thread however, most people are focusing on encouraging calorie counting to see where the problem is coming from as opposed to dieting. This is indeed, the best approach to a long-term solution, however that doesn't mean a drastic reduction in calories in the short term is a bad idea if someone really wants to lose weight.

Burn a lot in the beginning and then continue counting calories as you reach your goal so that you don't regain the weight you lost.

I have to say though... there are a lot of really good foods out there that you could incorporate into your diet if Special K gets boring.... Not me though. I love Special K! I eat it EVERY morning, however I guess that's not the only thing I eat.

Long term strategy? Count those calories! Burn those calories! If you're looking for additional foods to eat, I posted a list of things I've been eating here: Numbers Diet: Free Weight Loss Advice

It isn't the most nutritional lot of foods however I think they taste good... and hey... the calories add up the right way so short term, who cares?

The better way to do this...

You have a thought that is a concern to us all. You're trying to crash the weight off to fit into a dress and trust me, you'll gain it all back plus.

The way to go is to eat healthy and don't starve yourself. Your body is going to rebel and so will you. The way to go is 3 healthy meals a day with sensible snacks. I personally like Volumetrics the best. It's a sane way to get rid of the weight problem out of all the books out there and it is a safe way to do it. Please take a look at it. I just started 3 days ago and dropped the easiest 4 lbs. ever eating this way. I pay attention to the quality of the food and stick with nutritional meals, no claorie counting just when I'm full, I stop. I eat more fiber such as fruits and I look for better cereals than Special K. I have been eating Total bran flakes for breakfast with fresh blueberries and strawberries on top and skim milk. I eat a big bowl of it and it really fills me up. I have a mid lorning protein snack and then lunch. At night I enjoy a 100 calorie snack like those ice creams or cookies but they're portioned out and I look forward to them. Nothing extreme, nothing difficult. I making my food plan as I go and I'm getting results without suffering. The best part is this will be permanent and I , like you love clothes, shoes and have a goal mindset but mine won't be based on kust a box of cereal and my cereal has more nutrition in it. Compare the nutritional info and be blown away. 100% RDA kind of stuff. Packed with better nutients in the box and adding the fruit and skim milk is a better breakfast.

Okay, I'm not an expert by any means... actually I wing it most of the time... but I think with the Special K diet, the main thing is that you're eating less calories than you normally would. I think I have a box of Special K red berries around and it's 110 calories per 1 cup serving. So if you're replacing what is it, two meals per day with a bowl of special k, and assuming you're going by the proper serving sizes and using fat free milk... after you've had your "healthy" dinner, when you call it a day you've probably eaten less calories than you would have if you had two other 'normal meals'

Did that make any sense? I'm not sure if there's anything else behind it. I think I'd get bored eating it for two meals a day, though. I'd like to try the chocolatey flavour they have out now, hehe.

I don't know about the Special K diet, but I definitely eat it regularly as part of a balanced breakfast.

*thumbs-up, commercial grin*

Hah, as far as the diet goes, though, I think Disco is right. It's a reduced-calorie thing. SK is good, but I don't know if I could stand eating it for two meals a day.

I've heard that the high sugar corn syrup in it isn't very good for you, though.

Special K is also not a very healthy cereal - read the ingredients list -most of the versions of it contain High Fructose corn syrup as a key ingredient - that's something your body does not need - plus it's incredibly low in fiber.

your better off taking those 110 calories i a serving and having an apple
