Rep Power: 0 | | | This sounds fishy to me. Google hoodia and try reading some websites not run by supplement companies marketing the stuff. I think I will pass and opt instead for eating less/exercising more. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Yes, that`s a good advise from BigBear, besides, you shouldn`t search for the cheapest Hoodia, because cheap stuff is not always good. Find a reliable source of the stuff! |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I have mixed feelings about hoodia. I don't believe there is any reason for concern in taking it. It is all natural and isn't a stimulate, health wise my doctor told me it was safe and to go ahead and try it if I liked. So I did. I lost weight I won't lie, I didn't eat as much. But I think it was more a mental thing then the actual pills. First of all the instructions say to take it with 1-2 large glasses of water, that alone will help you feel full and help your metabolism. Also, for me I think I was pretty sure these pills were going to help me feel full and I just sort of did... I ran out of pills and didn't really have the funds to buy more so I just continued doing what I had been doing. Drinking the water, exercising etc. Same affect without the pills. The weight is still slowly going down and I'm not paying $40 a bottle for pills!
No matter what though as far as the medical industry goes there doesn't seem to be any health risks, so if you can afford it and it helps you I say go for it!
Good luck |

I also thought that loosing weight with hoodia is a lot to do with physchology... but it works, really!

Rep Power: 10 | | A little info on the hoodia fad...
first off, hoodia gordonii is an endangered species. it cannot be harvested without a special permit and certificate. and then it cannot be imported into the US without that certificate and a license from the USDA that allows you to import it. Because of this, it is recommended that you only buy hoodia from sources who have it tested and assayed to actually be hoodia. The permits/licenses etc are what cause it to be so pricey, at least when it is actually hoodia.
ok, even beyond that little tidbit, what is most likely the cause of any "hoodia success" has more to do with a double placebo effect. first off, people buy it thinking it will work, and the mind believes such, and it seems to work. second off, who the hell wants to admit they bought a product, paid out the ass for it, and then it didnt work?
There has yet to be a single REAL study (peer reviewed, double blind, the be all-end all standard in science) published proving either the effectiveness OR the SAFETY of hoodia. The only study done so far was on 7 people (extremely low population), who were all very obese (not a proper population sample), and who lost an average of 10 pounds in 1 month (3.3% bodyweight reduction), while also doing cardio and eating better! We all know that cardio and decent eating will drop 10 pounds a month on its own if you are very obese.
The only real study that has been done so far merely showed that the P57 broke down very quick in the liver, and suggested that it would be very difficult to ingest enough hoodia to have any useful effect. Meaning that the 30 dollar or more bottle you bought would only last you a few days tops at the dosages you would prolly need in order to get any effect, and thats assuming youve actually got a product with real hoodia in it.
concerning the stories about the bushmen in africa, remember that because a certain group of people can eat something on the opposite side of the globe does not mean that it will be safe and healthy for you.
take the info as you like, for those who feel hoodia is working for them, if that placebo effect is what you need then by all means continue. but you might want to ponder the thought of having to take that stuff for the rest of your life... i mean, if you need it that bad to eat right, what are you going to do when you arent taking it anymore? |

Rep Power: 7 | | | I realize this is a kinda old thread, but isn't Hoodia Gordonii or whatever the stuff Nicole Richie was taking (the real super expensive stuff) to lose alot of weight?? I read ENTIRELY too much celebrity news websites, but I'm pretty sure she was one celebrity that had been taking that with obvious success.
BTW-I totally agree on the endangered plant comment. Why take the last of what's left? I think they should just let it grow and when there is an abundance, do what you may ... but don't kill off or take all that's left of a special plant that has been used for centuries for the native bushmen. Afterall, don't you think they need it more than we do? They go hungry...we don't. Something to think about. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
