hmm, I don't know, I saw a documentary about this before it was on the shelves. Ie business people exploiting the knowledge of poor Africans and not giving them any proceeds. Not sure what the situation is now?

I've read the average person pretty much can't loose more than 2 pounds of body fat a week at most, so if you loose more, you're really just loosing muscle and water weight, which is a bad, bad thing.
Though I guess someone who's very overweight might be able to loose more body fat than that.. but-- wait wait WOAH, did you say kg as in KILOGRAM? that's 8.8 pounds! that's crazy. that makes me very suspicious as to its safety.

It basically suppresses appetite, right? which means your friend lost that weight basically by eating extremely few calories. Starvation is not a good way to diet, but I guess an appetite suppressant could be used responsibly as long as you're still getting enough calories.

anybody know what the deal with this is?

Hoodia Gordonii

Just a few details regarding Hoodia.

There is currently an abundance of Hoodia branded products on the market - it is without doubt the most popular diet pill in recent years. Just a quick search on ebay will reveal Hoodia wonder pills under $10 - I would be very suspisious of these. As previous posters have commented on it is not the hoodia gordonii cactus like plant that is responsible for suppressing the appetite but the p57 molecule. The p57 substance can take years to extract and at great expense.

If you do decide to give hoodia a try ensure that any product you decide to buy carries the C.I.T.E.S certificate - as another poster stated the hoodia plant is an endangered species and products that carry this cerification are almost certainly authentic or genuine.

Quite an intersting post here BBC NEWS | Programmes | Correspondent | Sampling the Kalahari Hoodia diet from the BBC website some years ago. and here Weight Loss Pills - Slimming Tablets - Diet Pills Reviews - Hoodia Gordonii

The important thing to remember with all slimming tablets/diet pills is that they are just one cog in the weight loss cycle. A change in diet and exercise are the more important and effective factors.

For many though Hoodia can have a kick start effect on actually not just wanting to - but actually doing something with regard to losing weight.

I love hoodia

I have been taking Hoodia and it works great! I take the dex L10 from GNC. It is not a placebo effect on me, I am an emotional eater and I don't think I could trick my mind into thinking that I don't want to eat!!! I get hungry with it but when I eat I get full real quick. I find that it takes about a week to kick in, I take two pills instead of one. I started in Oct at 233lbs (size 18-20) and I am now about 165 lbs (size 10). I do exercise and count my calories. There are two types of this hoodia there is one that does have a stimulant and one that is just the hoodia, that is the one I take I don't want to take anything that speeds my heart rate.

hoodia

what everyone has written is very interesting, good information, I have been going from one diet pill to the other, and have found nothing that works for me, and I definately don't need to feel like I am speeding, this makes me want to eat more to calm my nerves down, any suggestions on something that would work for me?? I need to lose 60 pounds, yikes!!

Losing 60 pounds isn't that difficult -you don't need pills to do it - watch your diet and moderate exercise and you will be at your goal before ou know it -

ok I will try it without, and I have increased my exercise, the calories add up so quickly I didn't realize that you can have so many calories in such small meals, would 1500-1600 calories be enough to lose 2 pounds a week??

Hoodia is not a diet pill, it's used injunction with a proper diet and exercise, but is helpful if (like a lot of people) you eat junk food, out of boredom or whatever.

I would like to try this, but it is expensive.

Tell me what's DOESN'T help you lose weight in conjuction with a healthy diet and exercise. Notice that every bullshit pill out there, stress that this must be in addition to a good nutritional plan and exercise..This is because the pill is placibo(sp?) and do nothing at all. It's the diet and exercise that does all the work.

Second point. I did some research on this a long time ago. The benefits of Hoodia is still not scientifically proven...Now of course there are some private studies that show bla bla bla...But they even have those for all the other junk that doesn't work. Even IF it DID work..REAL Hoodia is very scarce and the real thing is VERY expensive...You won't find the real thing listed for under $80 per bottle and DEFINATELY not on any store shelf. The ratio of finding the real deal vs scams is about 1/50. Don't waste your time on what DRUG might help you...The best drug is common sense, determination, and will.

The benefits of Hoodia is not scientifically proven however there were clinical trials undertaken in the UK and half the people were given Hoodia and the other half were given a placebo. It was found that the people given the Hoodia did eat less and reduced the number of calories taken each day and did lose weight.

You do still need a healthy diet, but the benefit with Hoodia is that it suppresses your appetite making it much easier to stick to a diet since you don't feel hungry. This is the biggest problem with most people is sticking to a diet and it is very easy to do so when you are using Hoodia.

hoodia

well like everything some people are for taking hoodia and some people are against, I started taking it and it makes me a bit jumpy, I just hope it doesn't cause some kind of heart problems down the road, and it definately kills the appetite!!

I've tried hoodia and it works, BUT you have to be really careful when buying it online because alot of 'so called' hoodia products contain very little hoodia or not the actual hoodia with the appetite suppressant qualities (there's lots of species of hoodia). Plus I exercised and ate healthily all the time I was using it. Mainly I felt it just helped to stop my sweets and junk food cravings.
