Rep Power: 20 | | | Thinking of doing some 5 & 10Ks this year Well..Im thinking about really putting myself out there and getting involved in some 5K run/walks & maybe even a couple 10Ks..I really would love to get out there and push myself a bit..im soo not gonna run..but ill speed walk it. I estimate 8 to 10 miles a week so I think Id do fine..but I think we will see which ones my exercise buddy & I can do and maybe train a little harder a month before. My hubby is soo not supportive of this... He just looks at me like im nuts and I so dont feel like he has any faith or cares at all...I honestly think he'd be happy if i stayed fat & unmotivated. |

do it for you and not for any body else, life is way to short to try and make everybody else happy....make your self happy and the rest will fall into place.men are funny sometimes i just had a talk w/ mine it was basically put up or shut up, it opened the door to a whole bunch of talking(it really has helped)he now know why im doing it and is slowly getting w/ the program so to speak.
but still if your family wont back you girl i will(i know not the same)but i believe you can do it, you go girl you wont regret it |

Rep Power: 20 | | Thanks you guys...I actually wanted to do a 10K coming up in 2 weeks..but it doesnt look like I will have any help w/ the kids..so im thinking of doing a 5K on the 5th of June, a 5K on July 9th & I dont believe there is another one in my area until Oct... and then there is 2. Im hoping to do 3 this yr at least... we shall see. There is also a mountain nearby thats a pretty tough hike and I believe its an average 3 hr up and back..So im shooting for that this fall. Im not letting anyone get in my way..the only prob is i cant just leave the kids to fend for themselves & other than my mom, i get no help here at home. Im almost afraid sometimes that my hubby would rather have me fat & w/ no motivation so it doesnt screw w/ his schedule..sorry,,just venting |

Rep Power: 20 | | | It is so frustrating... I know you know. I have had a friend who is a guy that ive been tight w/ for 2 yrs now and we are both very attracted to each other & really like each other, but we have kept things just friends... but when you get treated like your the cooker/washer women all the time..and he never likes to listen to me ...but he has no problem w/ me taking care of him & our children-it makes you question why you are here ya know. I love the guy but between all the hrs he works and how little quality time we get it makes you wonder. I am doing this for myself and for my boys..no one else. |

Rep Power: 20 | | | Well its official... my first 10K is under my belt and I lived to talk about it! I didnt realize until i got there that 10K was actually 6.2 miles... and then as im listening at registration I hear them say that this specific 10K was just in Runner's world and was listed as the most challenging in New England...I almost turned around & walked out. It is tough,no doubt... the first mile & a half is all hill...the first mile is a 500 foot elevation climb> I had kind of a tough time at first but just really paced myself and we fell to the back for a bit... but once things got a bit more level we picked up speed and ended up in the middle of the walkers. We finished w/a time of 1 hr 50 min! I was thrilled..I honestly just wanted to finish..but to do it under 2 hrs made me very happy... I was amazed how positive and motivating everyone was to each other...and it made me want to do another real soon. I am scheduled to do a 5 K in July... and that doesnt have many hills which is nice.
I am so proud of myself for this accomplishment..my mom was crying when i reached the finish line. I had all i could do to not cry myself.... I just never imagined myself there. |

Rep Power: 20 | | Okay, I think I may try for a 5K (3.1 mi). Will have to find one coming up this fall.
I found a link with some basic training tips: http://www.ehow.com/how_10624_train-run-first.html
In a nutshell, it says to start with 20-30 minute walks (sessions) 3 times per week with a day of rest in between sessions.
Put 3 1-minute jogs into your walk the first week (walk a few minutes, jog 1 minute, walk a few minutes, jog 1 minute, walk a few minutes, jog 1 minute, walk a few minutes).
Each week, increase the total time spent jogging at each session by 3 minutes. One minute jogs become two minute jogs the second week, then 3 minute jogs the third week.
Eventually (10 wks) you will be jogging the whole 30 minutes.
Stretch after each session.
I've done this a little on the treadmill over the past 8 weeks, but have not followed this formal plan and have done other cardio classes. Today I jogged 5 minutes, then 4 minutes in the middle of my 20 minute walk. The first time I walked in mid-July I was only able to do one 1-minute jog in my 30 minute walk.
So my plan is to continue my other cardio classes and use the treadmill more often, increasing jog time vs. walk time each week.
I've heard of other plans to 1) pick a distance (1 or 2 miles) and do it each time, slowly decreasing the total time to complete it, -or- 2) pick a set time (20 or 30 minutes) and increasing the total distance completed each time.
Anyone else want to try? |

Rep Power: 20 | | | I typically walk 3 to 3.5 miles x 3 to 4 times a week....and I use my elliptical or bike..what have you...
I dont do the joggin thing though... the race walking is more my deal. I have increased my speed and stamina greatly. I have one or 2 5Ks coming up in Oct..I cant wait..the one I did this spring was awesome!
