That's like me coming into some forum you frequent with a screen name of "bob" and saying.... "what, you don't know who I am? that is funny."

Lol, Yeah but wheres the fun in that?

I really don't like the name (Silent) though. Ever since I had a family member use it as their on to try to screw me over i have really not liked the name. I have tried countless times to get it changed over at Training.fitness however no mod seems to want to help. Pfft 1,300+ post and nearly all geared to helping other people and I can't get a name change... Leigh lets me change my name whenever I want at her forum..

Lol, Sorry I made that sound a tad too serious. Not actually upset about it, Male. More of a sarcastic rant.

PS,
Meant Admin not mods...

Lol, Well maybe some post are made simply to attain more rep. But if a byproduct of that is the fact it ends up helping someone, then thats good too.

There is some enjoyment to be had having the most rep of the forum. Seeing how I am a very competitive person and all.

Though, I think the mods (not admins) cheat. Every time I have the most little green boxes by later that day most of the other mods would have the same. Even when they didn't post anything at all!

They rep each other to keep up .

No, seriously I enjoy helping people more then I do the rep. However, the rep is in a way a nice "reward" for spending in some cases quite a bit of time to help someone.

After they made the rep system I saw many more knowledgeable people posting more often and more people were getting helped. So I think in the end its a good thing.

However, I have at times gotten somewhat "irritated". If I spend my time making a really good post and I don't get rep+ for it...

That's a good point. If you noticed more knowledgeable people posting b/c of rep..... than that is certainly a positive outcome from it.

I just feel that many people end up feeling shafted. Some people don't get the "rep" they deserve. They may not even be knowledgeable in fitness/nutrition but they help in their own way.

Don't get me wrong.... I love receiving rep from someone I've helped. It's nice to be appreciated. But that appreciation could have been displayed in the thread too.

I've never been a fan of "popularity contests" and I don't think a reputation system should be the fuel for giving good advice. I know that isn't your fuel T, but for some I'm sure it plays a significant role.

Most time spent on forum = highest rep, LOLZ

I've often times considered turning my rep off. If I do this, would I still be able to see what people rep me for.... or does it block people from repping me?

there are a few people who have it turned off but it hasn't stopped me from repping them - I think it prevents them from repping others.

and they can - as far as I can tell - still see who did rep them/.

I namely like the idea of being in "stealth mode."

That way some "guru" isn't afraid to "get into it" with me simply b/c of some stupid rating system.

Reputation leads to judgments.

People should take words, advice, and the like for what their worth at face value.

KWIM?

eh - people still think i'm an idiot so rep really doesn't validate a person's words -it's the words themselves that do that... your reputation is earned by what you've said not by the number of green bars.

hmmm maybe this topic should be the Misconceptions of Reputation

Do you really believe this?

I think many people take my words as the gospel around here simply b/c of my "reputation."

And that should never be.

I've been to some of the best docs in the country for a few orthopedic problems I've had.... and once I digested their advice.... I came back paper in hand loaded with questions.

I'm rarely questioned here.

Nor is anyone else who offers advice.

Maybe this doesn't have anything to do with rep and I'm way off base.
